Evaluation 4How did you use media technologies in the construction and research

planning and evaluation stages

When creating all of my projects I had some problems getting to grips with some of the tools which I didn’t have enough knowledge about. This meant that I needed to go onto the internet and find out key information about the program and how to use specific tools to create different types of effects such as “Fade Out” or “Jump cut”This was very useful because it was easy to access and to use and I was able to find out exactly what I was looking for which were ways to use tools.

The main link which came up was from “YouTube” a site which facilitates videos which are use for many different purposes, there were may types of tutorials which gave me a step to step guide into - How to use the program- What tool is the most effective- What the end product is meant to look like This was a major help for myself and my production team because we gain a lot of knowledge from going home and researching how to use different editing and production software.

Finally we looked at ex pupils blogs which helped us gain knowledge from what they had produced. Vinay was an example, he achieved a grade A at media A2 and I believed that by doing this it allowed us to adopt attributes which he used when making his projects to help improve ours and find out other ways to edit our work not just following tutorials on “YouTube”.

When researching I used all of those three media technology to help me find out key ways to produce my film, poster and my review I do believe that this is the main reason why I found some sections easier than others this was because I conducted more research which helped me.

Poster I believe that all three ( YouTube, Blogger and the interne t all helped me produce this media product was because I was able to find examples on the internet such as the “Scream” poster which I served as my style model , also by looking in YouTube it helped me use tools which I wasn’t familiar with I was also able to adopt some of the tutorials layouts because it fitted to the taste in which I had.

FilmWhen creating my film I was able to use YouTube to find out how to change the appearance of the film I also believe that “YouTube” aided me to cut down the editing process time which would help myself as well as my group to start moving to the next projects

Review This was the part which I struggled with however by looking at previous examples e.g. from the year above me I was able to gain ideas of the exact content which was needed . I also used the internet to find out “what mad a good review” the internet allowed me to gain information from professional review writers which I found very useful when constructing my review

When my group and I began to film we started to use a high MP camera because it allowed us to gain sharp and accurate camera shots and movements which would help its effectiveness to replicate a real horror film. This media technology aides us create different shots and angles which could be used for all three projects, (The film, Poster and Review)

The (Camera Man ) Vishal was in charge of filming so he had to make sure he got to grips with how the camera works. So before we actually started filming we went around school using the camera to capture many different types of shots from “Close Up Shots” to “Long Shots”. We then had fun playing around with the slow motion function on the camera and we began making clips of ourselves running in slow motion which was quite exciting to do. All of this gave us knowledge of how to control the camera and how to do different functions

As we began to do our filming weeks later all was going well when the battery on the camera died. Luckily I had a Sony Z1 Smartphone which had a 20.7 Mega-pixel camera which was ideal to make up for the missing camera. Afterward we went on the computer to see how the film was going to be put together we then highlighted that the quality of some scenes that we filmed on my Smartphone was very different and of lower quality. This wasn’t ideal because we needed all the scenes to have relatively the same quality, This was quite disappointing but we salvaged what we had to produce the rest of the film .

Adobe Premiere Pro was the main software which we used at first when trying to edit the film When editing the film we did find this so what hard because we weren't new to this program it was hard to use some of the tools e.g. “sound editor” and editing certain images. Kyle's who was the main editor for this film struggled. As much as we watched all the tutorials on YouTube it just wasn't effective enough to improve our knowledge when producing a film

However we then tried to use “Movie Maker” to produce our film, this was ideal because it the software was much easier to comprehend so “Kyle” was able to edit the film more easier and I also believe that this saved time when editing so we could focus on other parts of our products such as the poster and review.

However because “Movie Maker” was so simple it meant that there wasn’t a lot of effects which we could add to the film e.g. when editing the title. I believe this made out film look more simple and we could add effect to make our film seem more scary towards the audience however after gaining feedback on our film and finding out technical errors within the film caused us to revert back to premier pro even though the program was slightly tricky to use e.g. the track select tool this was hard to used because Select all clips on a track from a given point, or select multiple tracks.

we began to find it easier over time. We then started changing and adding more editing strategies which helped give the film a better horror feel. We then transported the film into Movie Maker and added small touches such as the credits . This helped the audiences identify the specific roles given out to individuals and also the cast of the film

When creating my poster I began to think about what software I was going to use. I then though I was going to use Photoshop. This was because I had used it within my year 12 Media Studies projects I believed that I was quite comfortable using the tools and I was very knowledgeable about the software all round. This is why I think that my horror film poster was a great success . I also began to use different types of products e.g. The “Graphics Tablet” which was created by bamboo this allowed me to pin point where and how I wanted to edit my poster e.g. The text, main image, background colours and font styles. This was an advanced piece of equipment and for me to be able to use it effectively shows my skill and how much I have improved from studying this subject at as

One of the most important things which I needed to use was the camera. This allowed me to take a wide range of pictures which I could use of my poster e.g. close shot, medium shot . I wanted to use a close up shot because it allowed the audience to see the expression of fear within Kaylah's eyes.

By using these programs and digital technologies I was able to produce a well designed poster which I believe could be used for a real horror film .

When creating my review I also had to consider the programs and media technologies I was going to use. I also began to think about how I created my Poster however I wanted to challenge myself and separate myself from the rest of the class by creating my double page spread review with In Design. This was a harder program to use because of the different types of tools and what they were used for, however the only negative thing about using this software was that some tools were restricted. E.g. editing image to look nicer. I wasn’t able to do certain things which I could do in Photoshop however throughout creating this review I was able to develop new skills e.g. produce a three column double page spread. Which aided me to produce a well structure review. I do believe that Photoshop would have been ideal for me to be able to edit the imagines so it could have a greater effect towards the audience but I do believe that it was easier to make a double page spread because I had the tools to help me do so e.g. (Ruler, column divider)

Adobe In Design

Within In Design there was a tool bar which had different tools which created different effects this is the toolbar in which I sued to create different features of my review1) the text tool allowed me to insert text after I had finished creating the structure to my film. 2) Shapes tool this aided me to create different shapes to form the structure of my review so I was able to identify where I was going to put the work which I had created e.g. the masthead3) The text insert tool , this allowed me to insert and insert imagery inside which could be moved around the review into different places until I found the place where the picture looked most effective 4) Zoom tool , this allowed e to zoom into my work and check that all of the elements were coming together e.g. the images, texts and titles and subtitles.

These are some of the tools which I used and helped me create a review which was very effective when giving information to audiences.
