EVALUATION 3What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Evaluation 3 powerpoint

• When doing my initial research I decided that my target audience would be based around my own age range. For example people aged form 15 onwards, as they would be most interested in surrealism genre compared to an older generation of people who have different interests. For example film researchers have shown the film ‘Machinist’ by Christian Bale had a 47% of people watching of the ages between 15 and onwards. Within the reviews of the film, predominantly this target audience had a large part of the comments, which as a result leads to the genre of surrealism being a prominent interest for a younger generation. As my research says I took all my comments and feedback from my target audience, as that was my intended target audience. To further develop my audience feedback I created questionnaires for my film as this helped me to understand what my target audience wanted to see in my film and what aspects would interest them. For example I asked 6 questions. A few examples being:

The most common answer was ‘a hospital’ this fits my surrealism genre as the location itself can have aspects of strange, morbid and a creepy nature. As a result the location I choose was a house as I felt that it would give more of a personal intention to the narrative.

• The most common answer was a young character, preferable male. As a result I choose to use my audience’s feedback and included young girls in my film and didn’t use a male character as I felt a young girl can be portrayed more vulnerable than a male. Therefore my audience feedback helped me with my characters.

• This particular question to the audience helped me when making my film as it had a great impact on the portraying of my narrative. Most of the choices given in this question are conventional codes and conventions of a surrealism film but as a result flashbacks and deterioration of the memory where the most popular. I included flashbacks throughout my film as this was a key convention of a surrealism genre.

• Throughout making my film my audience has commented on certain aspects, for example the music, the editing and certain images. When looking at these comments I have developed my film further to fit my target audience’s responses. One audience comment being ‘Your narrative develops really well through the use of face pace editing and voiceovers.

• When doing my poster I started off by having initial poster ideas that I had my audience comment on. These where my initial poster ideas:

• These are some comments from my initial poster ideas:• ‘Poster Three- I like how you have the girls face across the whole poster,

it really stands out and if you choose to have this as your final poster, I think it would really work. However to make her look like she is possessed you could edit the eyes to make them look a little different.’

•‘Poster One- I really like this poster, I think it’s really clever, it’s also really different to any of the other ones I’ve seen. If you cut of the bottom part of the picture (the neck) then your film will fit in to the rule of thirds and the brain will stand out much more.’

 •

‘Poster Two- I think this could be quite effective, but at the moment the positioning of the characters are not quite right at the moment.’

• When looking at my audience comments I then developed that further by creating a questionnaire out of the comments that I received from my initial posters. My questionnaire included:

Then after taking into consideration my audience feedback I had three developed edits of my poster, which were these:

• This is a audience comment from my first edit:• ‘What I like about this edit is how the font colour contrasts well with Lizzie’s

dark coat, and so it draws attention to the title. I also like your choice of font, as it’s bold, easy to read and has a surreal/fantasy type quality. I like the idea of the image, but it’s been squashed so it looks a bit odd… Maybe re shoot it so her face is dead straight to the camera, as the eye contact is effective and could make a striking image. I also love the background, as it gives the idea of a fantasy film. I think for the next edit you need to get some more text in there (cast/crew/ release date/tagline maybe)?’

• After this comment I improved my poster and then had another comment saying:

• ‘I really like the deranged and messy look of your protagonist but think you should add more of a surrealism element on your poster to make it more eye catching’

• After this comment I developed my poster into my final edit and then had this comment:

• ‘I really like your final edit I think the hands with the embedded numbers on them really create a surreal aspect to your poster.’
