How does your media product represent particular social groups?

EVALUATION Q2

Page 2: Evaluation 2

The protagonist "Laura Golding" is a reflection of an average

teenage girl. The shot showing Laura in the mirror adds to the

stalker element as we rarely see from her point of view. The

protagonist represents the girl next door.. I compared our protagonist with with other

characters who i felt like she was similar to.

PROTAGONIST

Firstly I compared her to a character very similar to her... Alison from Pretty little liar, she is the girl next door who is stalked by a bully - They are both in similar situations and are around the same age The character Laura conforms to stereotypes of the girl next door – She care about her appearance as she is seen brushing her and has make up box in her bedroom Even by her body language she comes across as sweet and maybe shy.

Page 3: Evaluation 2

The Other character I compared her to was one of the female protagonist from Teen wolf –

Lydia. Teen wolf in its self has a thriller type theme which I felt

could really link the two.

they both have similar costumes, they are both in dangerous

situations but are not always brave, again conforming to

stereotypes by making the girl the weaker but pretty ones.

"Unknown" makes the genre clear as its the introduction of the villain

causing instant tension.

the audience watches from the point of view of the villain. This make the

audience feel nervous for our protagonist who is being watched.

ANTAGONIST

I compare our character to again one from pretty little liars I chose the stalker character because of the similarities. Costume the black hoodie gives off the sense of danger they bring when in a scene. The Black hood is useful as their faces are not shown creating mystery and intrigue.

Page 5: Evaluation 2

The character also conforms to stereotypes as just in the match on action, When the door is opened a sense of enigma is created through

the opening of the door representing the troubled teen that we wanted the

audience to get a glimpse of.

Mise-en-scene

Setting : Girls bedroom is light purple it create a girly atmosphere, a typical girls room shown the makeup box that

is set up next to phone to really emphasise it.

High street representing time period which is modern day.

Costume: Guy - Black hoodie representing male - hood up

represents mystery of not knowing who is under the hood

Girl - Mostly black with white fashionable shirt represent typical

teenage girl

no one is wearing any bright colours as that would subvert the genre which

is why everyone is wearing dark clothes to conform to the thriller

genre.

MISE-EN-SCENE AND CAMERA

Camera Slow pan across pictures builds tension right before meeting the

antagonistExtreme close up on girls face adds

to mystery always making sure that the camera was behind the hooded figure so that

the question will continuously be "who is he?"

Long shot and shot were objects are place in front e.g. branches

emphasizes the stalker element of the film

Page 7: Evaluation 2

Sound

very little dialogue is used as it adds to the intrigue of the opening and doesn't giving

anything away

non diegetic sound is used for the majority of the opening,

the soundtrack is eerie but not to creepy as we really didn't want to make it seem as if it

was a horror film. the soundtrack later on becomes louder as the opening add to

build tension

SOUND AND EDITING

Editing Dissolving – as she walks down a long road her. The dissolve edit

shows that time is passing implying that she has been watched for a long time

Match-On-Action – Creating enigma when antagonist leaves

shed.Continuity editing – is shown

throughout the opening, adding a sense of realism to the opening. Cutting we used a lot right at the start between the two characters

at the same time.
