Welcome   to  Portugal   and   to  EuroXpro   2015!  This   year   EuroXpro  will   happen   in  Porto   and   it  will   occur  from  the  23rd  of  March  until  the  29th.  We  hope  you  will  enjoy  our  city!  

 

EuroXpro   is   the   biggest   international   conference   for   CEE   (Central   and   Eastern   Europe)   and   WENA  (Western  Europe  and  North  America)  regions,  organized  this  year  by  AIESEC  in  FEP  powered  by  AIESEC  Portugal,  which  will  gather  more  than  300  young  leaders  that  will  discuss  the  most   important  strategic  decisions  for  these  regions,  shaping  the  direction  of  our  youth-­‐driven  organization.  

In   this   booklet   you   will   find   information   about   our   country   and   city   and   also   the   most   important  information   that   you  must   know,   in   order   to   bring   you   the  most   convenient   access.   Please   read   it   all  carefully  before  coming.

EuroXpro 2015

AIESEC  in  Portugal   is  honored  to  announce  that  EuroXpro   is  taking  place   in  our   country,   from   23   –   29  March   2015.  We   are   very   happy   to  welcome   the  different  countries  of  the  World  in  the  "Best  European  Destination  2014",  the  city  of  Oporto.  

 

The  main  purpose  of  EuroXpro  2015   is   to  empower   the  network  at  a  global  level   to   deliver   the   strategies   needed   to   achieve   the   biggest   summer   peak  that  WENA  and  CEE  has  ever  seen,  creation  the  biggest  milestone  to  achieve  2015  goals,   and  with   this   empowering   the   leaders   that   the   region  needs   in  order   to   create   a   more   collaborative   and   purposeful   Europe   and   Northern  America.

Portugal Portugal  is  one  of  the  oldest  countries  in  the  world  and  its  located  on  the  southwest  edge  of  Europe.  Portugal  is  part  of  the  Iberian  Peninsula  and  has  borders  with  Spain!  

 Portugal  is  well  known  because  of  its  mari<me  discoveries  around  the  globe  and  by  its  charming  and  wonderful  history,  weather,  football  players  and  food.  

   

Due  to  its  long  shore  and  pleasant  climate,  Portugal  is  among  the  20  most  visited  countries  in  the  world,  receiving  an  average  of  13  million  foreign  tourists  each  year.  Tourism  plays  a  very  important  role  in  the  Portuguese  economy  and  for  sure  you  should  take  your  <me  to  visit  the  main  ci<es  in  Portugal,  such  as  Lisbon,  Porto,  Coimbra,  Faro,  etc.

 Other   languages   spoken:   most   people   are  comfortable   with   English,   Spanish   and/or  French  

 

Religion:  most  people  are  Catholic

Currency:  Euro  (€)  

Government:  Semi-­‐presidential  Constitutional  Republic  -­‐  the  President  and  the  Prime  Minister  share  key  executive  powers  and  judicial  branches.  Today,  the  Prime  Minister  is  Pedro  Passos  Coelho  and  the  President  of  the  Republic  is  AníbalCavaco  Silva,  who  is  an  AIESEC  Alumnus.  

 

Credit  Cards  and  ATMs:  Usually  hotels,  shops  and  restaurants  accept  all  major  credit  cards  and  the  ATMs  are  easy  to  find  around  the  country.    

 

Banks:  Portuguese  banks  are  open  from  Monday  to  Friday;  8:30  am  -­‐  2:45/3  pm.

Healthcare:  The  Portuguese  Public  Health  System  is  one  of  the  best  in  the  world.  Emergency  treatment  is  normally  free  in  all  public  hospitals,  but  sometimes  you  might  need  to  pay  a  small  fee.  Private  hospitals  offer  the  same  treatments,  but  you  have  to  pay  for  all  treatments.      Emergency  Number:  112    The  average  waiting  time  in  Lisbon  for  an  ambulance  is  7  minutes.    Supermarkets:  Are  usually  open  Monday  to  Sunday,  9  am  to  9  pm  -­‐  in  big  malls  you  can  find  supermarkets  open  until  midnight.    

 Electricity:  Portugal's  standard  electricity  supply  is  220  Volts  (V),  50  Hertz  (Hz).  Portuguese  plugs  are  the  standard  European  ones.    

 Time:  Continental  Portugal  and  Madeira  use  UTC/GMT+00:00,  while  the  Azores  use  UTC/GMT–01:00.  

Meals:  In  Portugal  there  are  3  main  meals  per  day,  which  are:  breakfast  in  the  morning,  lunch  at  midday  and  dinner  in  the  evening.  Most  people  usually  also  have  a  break  in  the  afternoon  to  have  a  little  snack.  Restaurants  are  normally  open  for  lunch  from  midday  to  4pm,  and  for  dinner  from  7pm  to  midnight.    

 

Telecommunications:  The  international  code  to  call  Portuguese  numbers  is:  +351.    

If  you  want  to  call  from  Portugal  to  another  country  you  will  have  to  dial  the  international  code  that  is  00  followed  by  the  relevant  country  code.  For  more  information,  please  ask  your  provider.

Porto Founded  in  the  middle  ages,  Porto  conquers  us  by  its  history,  authenticity  as  well  as  by  its  cosmopolitan  and  contemporary  beauty.      

While  visiting  Porto  there  are  some  experiences  you  should  definitely  try:  

•  Taste  the  worldly  renowned  Porto  wine  and  visit  a  wine  cellar  

•  Eat  a  Francesinha,  Porto’s  most  famous  food  

•  The  nightlife  of  Piolho  and  Ribeira  •  Check-­‐out  some  “Harry  Potter”  scenarios  that  influenced  J.K.  Rowling  -­‐  the  academic  customs  and  Lello  Library

AIESEC PORTUGAL

From   the   beginning   of   foundation   in   1959,   AIESEC   Portugal  enables   to   companies   and   organizations   with   the   international  exchange  opportunity  and   impacts  youth  population  of  Portugal  who  is  going  to  lead  and  add  value  to  future  generation.  

 

AIESEC   in   Portugal   is   present   in   5   cities   with   8   offices   covering  almost  all  universities  in  the  country.  We  have  offices  in  University  of  Minho,  University  of  Porto,  University  of  Aveiro,  University  of  Coimbra,   ISCTE-­‐IUL,   ISEG,   Nova   University   and   Catholic  University   of   Lisbon.   Throughout   our   56-­‐year   history   we   have  already   created   impact   in   over   56   countries   from   all   over   the  world   and   we   believe   that,   with   the   development   of   these  international   experiences,   we   are   developing   the   needed  competencies  to  make  the  world  a  better  place.

Health  Insurance    EU  Citizens  Portugal  is  part  of  the  European  Union  and  as  such  all  EU  citizens  are  requested  to  bring  their  European  Health  Insurance  cards  -­‐  this  will  give  you  free  access  to  all  public  facilities.  Check  your  home  country  for  more  specific  information.      Non-­‐  EU  Citizens  All  other  non-­‐EU  citizens  will  have  to  do  a  mandatory  health-­‐travel  insurance  before  arriving  in  the  conference.  You  will  not  allowed  into  the  conference  premises  without  one  and  ultimately  you  would  have  to  buy  one  from  the  CC  at  an  higher  cost.    Vaccinations  

No special immunizations or medications are necessary for most trips to Portugal.

Visa Application

Portugal  is  part  of  the  Schengen  space  and  therefore  visitors  that  with  a  Schengen  passport  /  Visa  can  freely  enter  the  country.    Schengen  Countries  Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.  Other  countries  that  do  not  require  Visa    Citizens   from   some   countries   countries   can   stay   in   Portugal   up   to   90   days   without   a   Visa,   namely:   Andorra,  Argentina,  Australia,  Bolivia,  Brasil,  Brunei,  Bulgaria,  Canada,  Chile,  South  Korea,  Costa  Rica,  Croatia,  United  States,  Guatemala,   Honduras,   Israel,   Japan,   Malaysia,   Mexico,   Monaco,   Nicaragua,   New   Zealand,   Panama,   Paraguay,  Romania,  Vatican,  El  Salvador,  San  Marino,  Singapore,  Uruguay,  Venezuela.    Countries  that  require  a  Visa  In  this  link  you  can  find  a  list  of  all  the  countries  who  require  a  Visa  -­‐  you  will  have  to  apply  for  a  “short  term  stays  visa”  -­‐  Visa  Type  C.    Application  Process  and  Visa  Costs  • A  visa  to  enter  Portugal  should  cost  between  35-­‐60€  •  In  this  link  you  can  find  all  needed  documents  to  apply  for  a  Visa  Type  C  • Check  in  this  link  the  closest  consular  office  to  you

Meal  price  (at  the  hotel):    The  Axis  Ofir  Beach  Resort  Hotel  has   restaurants  within   their   facilities   that  offer  both   regional   and   international   cuisine.   The   meal   price   at   the   Hotel   averages  around  20€.  Nevertheless,  near  the  Hotel  you  can  find  restaurants  to  have  a  meal  for  between  5€  to  10€.
