Introduction from the ChairThe economic pressures of the past two years have tried the patience of all of us who are convinced that business processes are the only practical way to navigate a highly interconnected and customer oriented business world. Despite recent bumps in the road, a transition is clearly underway even if the pace sometimes seems slower than we would like. More and more, our customers only concern themselves with our ability to meet their interests and they judge us based on their experiences with our

processes. When our business processes work they connect the beginning of a customer value stream all the way to its conclusion from the outside looking in. However, at the best of times changing how we do our work to accomplish cross functional connectivity is painful and difficult, requiring alignment to the end result and the latest in process management knowledge, capabilities and management commitment.

In designing BPM Europe 2010 we have remained extremely aware that most organizations want to do a great job with their processes to enhance the outside-in experience of our customers. Therefore we have built an event that we think really delivers what practitioners and managers need right now to do so. We know that most businesses understand that a process centric point of view makes ultimate sense but many have not yet been able to make it a reality. For that reason, this year we have put together a conference that features the most inspirational yet down to earth set of case studies we have ever featured. These will be delivered by the analysts and managers that implemented the solutions and realized the ROI of process thinking. We have also added many ‘think tank’ sessions to allow delegates to discuss critical topics with other practitioners and industry thought leaders. Rounding out BPM Europe 2010 we have invited a series of special guests who are lead thinkers in the process profession to advise on directions and trends that we can expect soon.

The feedback from past BPM Conference delegates has been that BPM Europe is consistently Europe’s most practical BPM conference. With this year’s added focus on peer collaboration and proven ROI case studies you can count on it achieving that distinction once again. As we emerge from current economic threats there will be great opportunities to move forward with better processes leading the way. There will also be many challenges as we face a world of more demanding customers, regulatory constraints, nervous investors, organizational consolidation in a fickle marketplace that will expect poor processes to become great ones.

The opportunity is yours. You just have to be there. Roger T. Burlton, Chairman

Who Should Attend Experienced Process Practitioners wishing to share with their peers and to

learn new and better ways of working. BPM Novices who want to learn fast and get their process capabilities up

and running quickly. Process and Business Analysts and Designers wishing to gain a

comprehensive coverage of the critical aspects of BPM. Enterprise Architects and Strategists who wish to improve the re-use of

business services and increase the agility of business processes solutions. Managers, Directors and other Senior Staff aiming to implement ongoing

process improvement, management and governance. Process Technologists striving to build adaptable business solutions. Business Managers who have to deliver real change to survive and thrive.

What You Will Learn: ● How you can make a difference in process performance now● What are the best opportunities to enhance your BPM knowledge and

practices when you return● Why business managers need to care about BPM for survival,

sustainability and growth● How to build a realistic process strategy and BPM implementation

plan.● What are the latest trends, standards and techniques to get to the

cause of process problems● How to build better models and specifications.● When to use full BPM and when to fast track the effort● How to manage and govern process assets● How to get managers and staff to change to a process centric

approach● What practices work best for connecting processes with

measurement and performance ● What tools and technologies are right for you and when to use them● How BPM and SOA must work in partnership for agile solutions● How to build and run a Centre of BPM Expertise.● How to translate process models into implementation requirements

Pre-Conference WorkshopsAn Introduction to BPM, Dee CarriThis introduction to processes is designed for novice practitioners and managers in the field of BPM and those who wish to gel their understanding BPM concepts and methods. It will provide an overview of BPM discussing process work at the enterprise management, process improvement and solution implementations levels. This will be a good baseline for the rest of the conference. Dee Carri, a former Gartner analyst, will lead the session. The Essentials of Lean Six Sigma, Peter MatthijssenToday Lean Management and Six Sigma are not only benefiting manufacturers but also financial, utility and governmental sectors. This session is based on the very successful BiZZdesign Masterclass which has been attended by hundreds of professionals. The backgrounds, approaches and techniques of Lean Management and Six Sigma will be explored. Also the link to the daily practice of participants will be made answering the question ‘How can we improve our processes and save money, starting tomorrow’!The BPM Technology Landscape, Sandy KemsleyBusiness Process Management software is in a state of rapid change with the advent of social BPM technologies and adaptive case management. Some of the traditional BPM vendors are now including these new capabilities, while others are staying focused on structured BPM. Newer products are emerging bringing more change in BPM: rules management, content management, analytics, and inline simulation and optimization are all becoming capabilities that the analysts are predicting will become standard. This session will examine the spectrum of product capabilities that fall under the BPM umbrella.Successfully Running a Business Process Analysis and Design Project, Deirdre SextonWhether you struggle to implement a business process improvement initiative or face the challenge of selling the benefits of BPM to clients or colleagues, you will experience a natural affinity with the activities and experiences shared at this workshop. This session is of interest to all who are involved in actually delivering on the promise of a process analysis, design and implementation project and are motivated by the possibility of shedding the burden of silo thinking and transitioning to a solution enabled by process thinking and process centric working.

The ABCs of Process Modelling from Business Architecture to theProcess Portfolio, Roger Burlton and Paul Harmon At the enterprise-wide architecture level, process models are strategic. The models at this level include business strategy, process architecture, measurements and objectives, and alignment with IT assets and human competencies. Process governance frameworks and ongoing portfolio management follows. This session will define these models and connect them into a management framework. Case studies and delegate workshops will be spread throughout the session. This session stands alone or can be taken with the XYZ tutorial. The XYZs of Process Modelling from Project Scoping to Solution Requirements, Roger Burlton and Paul HarmonTo solve a process problem you need models to understand and solve it. This level of modelling starts with scoping and then develops more detailed models of the current process using business level BPMN and root cause diagrams. Based on problems and causes identified, future state business models are developed and validated. Scenarios and use cases are shown to test ideas and define requirements. Case studies and delegate workshops will be spread throughout the session. This session stands alone or can be taken with the ABC tutorial.

KeynotesConference Welcome and Chair Address: The Rules for Process, Roger Burlton, BPTrends AssociatesRoger Burlton, the conference chair, will open the conference with a discussion of the challenges associated with trying to become process centric without a common semantic foundation for process thinking or communicating. Burlton believes that in order for process management to thrive we must get the rules of engagement straight. This session will suggest a common sense foundation for all business process work that will set the premises for the rest of the conference.

The Future of Work: A One-on-One Chat with Keith Harrison-Broninski, Role Modellers LtdThis keynote will deal with the changing nature of work itself and the challenge this provides to traditional process thinking, modelling, analysis and design. Keith Harrison-Broninski, the thought leader in the emerging field of Human Interaction Management will discuss its theories and practicalities. In the best spirit of journalism Roger Burlton, the conference chair will interview Keith regarding the nature of this new discipline as well as delve into how to analyze and design highly service oriented interactive relationships rather than conventional workflows.
