Dissemination of results of the LNG Blue

Corridors Project

The main goal of dissemination activities is to inform about the LNG Blue Corridor Project results to a

wider audience. Effective dissemination is essential in order to make sure that results are well-tailored

for target audiences – Policy makers, stakeholders, fleet operators, gas industry and general public.

The objective of the Dissemination Plan is to clearly identify and organise the activities to be

performed in order to promote the exploitation of the project’s results and the widest dissemination of

knowledge from the project.

The LNG Blue Corridors consortium is fully aware of the importance to effectively communicate results.

This projects is based on the demonstration, which means that results will be used as a base for future

decisions.

Dissemination activities are being oriented both externally (for external organizations) and internally,

among the LNG BC consortium members.

To this end, a dissemination plan has been developed, via the work package (WP8) which is dedicated

to production and dissemination of the project’s outputs. Dissemination activities will also serve for

internal communication including dialog with stakeholders and end users.

1. Communication objectives

The dissemination strategy/activities will follow principles and best practices successfully tested in

other EU projects:

- A contact database has been created to inform about the project ongoing activities

- All public results will be accessible from the project website and sent to all parties who may

benefit from them.

- Tools as the bi-annual newsletter and the website are the main tools to inform the external

audience

- Project partners regularly contribute with news and provide updated information on the

project in order to ensure media attention

- Partners who will contribute to the project activities, for example by taking part in events or

expert interviews, will inform the consortium (WP8 coordinator) about the final outcomes and results.

2. Tools of the dissemination plan:

2.1 Identify target audiences- Contact database

The main groups of people interested from the project were identified. A database with more than

7,000 relevant contacts was establish at the beginning of the project to inform them about the project

activities. The database has been clearly structured to divide and easily identified different targeted

audiences (policy makers, users, industry, etc.…)

A subscription option to the project newsletter was added to the website and newsletter itself, which

has constituted a constant flow of new recipients to be added to the database, since the beginning of

the project, in 2008, the database has increase from 7,000 to 9,000 contacts.

2.2 Identification of stakeholders and users

One of the tasks in the project is to identify the stakeholders with a special focus or interest on the use

of LNG in transport. Therefore, we have categorized the stakeholders we have identified. Alongside this

we have tried to map the motives and interests associated with each group. By doing so, we will clarify

why certain players are more interesting to reach and engage with for formulating recommendations

targeted at different stakeholders in support of the Commissions policies.

2.3 Website

An interactive website was established as a major and official information channel. It provides clear

and concise information on the LNG BC activities.

A full explanation about the project website functionalities was reported via the deliverable LNG-BC

D8.1, submitted in November 2013.

Main objectives of the website:

• Brief and clear information on the project (funding scheme, objectives and work plan,

partnership, time schedules of meetings and workshops)

• Outline of project activities and results, main publications (in user-friendly formats)

• Useful documentation, links and references in .pdf files

In 2014, the website was revised. The content was streamlined (doubles removed) and the menu

structure was simplified as a result of this. Fields have been added on-demand as the project

progresses. The theme of the website was srevamped to minimize layout issues and improve browser

support.

Recently, a map including all the European LNG stations, both existing and planned has been updated.

The map shows information about other EU funded projects, mainly via the CEF (Connecting Europe

Facility) programme that are opening LNG stations across Europe. This provide synergy with important

initiatives such Connect2LNG, LNG Motion, LNG4Haul, etc…

The map includes information (where possible) about:

- Location (full details)

- name / brand of the station

- Recommendations to access

- type: private/public

- to confirm if you need to have a special card to refuel a truck

- the contact phone (of the right person)

- Available payment types (VISA, etc...)

- Timetable

- Manned/unmanned

- type of connection (JC Carter...)

- delivery pressure (8, 12... bar)

- access details (to make sure if you can go with a trailer, semi-trailer, etc...) providing

dimensions/recommendations

- Public price (EUR/kg)

- Availability of Diesel

2.4 Project Intranet /My LNG BC

The website hosts a project intranet (with access granted to all beneficiaries, EC project officers and

reviewers), an internal working e-space dedicated to intra-partnership communication. As timely and

efficient flow of information between partners is essential to ensure an efficient implementation of the

project activities, Intranet enables partners located in different countries to interact through a different

set of web facilities.

As part of this exchange of communication, there are two forums:

Partner forum: To exchange information among partners

Fleet operator forum: This forum is targeted at all fleet operator partners of the project for

sharing knowledge, information or discussing the LNG technology

Besides, the internal communication is based on several other tools such as shared document writing,

shared key dates/deadlines information, event scheduling, etc.

The intranet is used to:

- Circulate preliminary, preparatory and internal documents, both of scientific and administrative

nature;

- Exchange additional information and documents

It also includes:

- Official documents: it contains the most useful documents for the project e.g. Grant

Agreement, FP7 Guidelines, Consortium Agreement;

- Graphics & Templates: it contains the project logo, a template for deliverables, PPT

presentation, the statement to be included in every dissemination product,

2.5 Newsletter

From the beginning of the project, a newsletter was created and delivered to target groups twice a

year.

Until March 2017, seven newsletters have been circulated to more than 8,500 recipients.

The deliverable is in an easy-to-read format, with key research results, information regarding the

project process as the main messages. The WP8 leader was responsible for creating the newsletter

layout. The contact is edited by NGVA, with the support of the project coordinator. Partners are invited

to contribute to the deliverable.

It contains different sections:

- Main milestones achieved

- News from the LNG sector

- Related events

- Main news (5-6) happened in the last months

2.6 Social media: Twitter

Social Media are useful as communication tools within a project, as this communication happens

publicly, through social networks. It can change the way in which you undertake research, and can also

open up new forms of communication and dissemination. It has the power to enable researchers to

engage in a wide range of dissemination in a highly efficient way.

In the case of LNG BC, Twitter was used as the main social tool to communicate inmediate results from

the project in between the publication of the newsletter.

With the name @LNGBlueCorridor “The aim of the project is to demonstrate with 13 new #LNG

stations and a fleet of about 100 LNG HD #Vehicles the four LNG Blue Corridors. #trucks #fuel” several

news about new opening of stations, increase of users and fleet operators, figures, new routes, etc…

has been published.

2.7 Media

As part of its dissemination strategy, the consortium has prepared a project narrative and issue media

communications and press releases.

These aim to elicit participation and generate interest in LNG BC project and related events, draw

attention to published reports or drive interested parties to sources such as the project website and

make them a useful tool in support of other engagement and dissemination strategies.

As a part of this publications, several channels have mention news about the project. See below an

Workshops are an essential knowledge dissemination means. Consortium partners have used

workshops to discuss, present and deliberate project related matters and findings.

As the first workshop organized, on May 2013, a Kick-off event on the launch of the LNG Blue

Corridors was held at the European Commission Centre A. Broschette. More than 70 participants

attended the public session of the four-year project's kick-off event, which. The day after, an internal

Consortium meeting was held in the Catalonia Delegation building, which all project partners

attended.

On March 2015, a workshop for fleet operators was organized in Paris. It counted with the

participation of more than 25 fleet operators that were embracing the idea of substitute part of their

fleet with LNG trucks. Sfter the workshop several fleet operators become project partners.

As third workshop, on May 2016- The LNG Blue Corridor project was presented at the Alternative Fuels

Conference and World Fair held in Bologna, Italy on 26-28 May. The conference gave an opportunity

to learn about different fuels and new sustainable technologies, is an important event for the

transportation sector.

A workshop entitled “Green logistics & transport operators – LNG Blue Corridors” served to raise the

profile of the project and its aims. The session including speakers: Timothée Audibert, Head of Projects

at Engie/GNVert; Javier Lebrato, Heavy Duty Engineer at Applus Idiada; Mauro Chiotasso, Operative

Coordinator of the Project Rete at LNG Italia Freight; Mario Ambrogi, LC3 General Manager; Andrea

Bottazzi, Fleet Manager, TPER spa; and Matteo Lorenzo De Campo, Managing Director from Consorzio

Valtellina, was expertly moderated by Marco Seimandi, Sales & Marketing Director at BRC Gas

Equipment.

The workshop highlighted the important role that LNG is playing and the contribution it is making in

being the fastest and most cost-efficient solution to make heavy-duty, long-haul transportation on the

road more environmentally friendly.

A 4th

Workshop (or event) will be organized in Barcelona in June 2017 (see point 3. Final event)

2.9 Presentations at external events & conferences

Conferences are a means of developing national and international connections with governmental,

advocacy or academic opinion leaders, and engaging in a direct, face-to-face communications and

discourse. The consortium partners have been actively contributing and delivered papers, slide show

presentations and lectures at seminars, relevant events and selected international conferences, such as

the TEN-T days in Rotterdam in 2016 .

A list of conferences to be targeted have been developed throughout the course of the project, with

the aim of achieving a good disciplinary and national spread. Consortium partners have been

participating in key workshops and conferences throughout the project to increase project visibility

and sharing of results as well as to build the LNG BCE contact list as a result of such networking

activities.

Promotion LNG Blue Corridors Project at the

World Gas Conference in Paris. June 2015

A liaison with on-going EU projects related with the use of alternative fuels in transport and LNG

infrastructure in Europe has been fundamental to increase the synergies with other projects.

The participation at the TEN-T days in 2016 in Rotterdam of the LNG Blue Corridor was organised by

NGVA Europe. Under a common both, a series of projects related with the LNG infrastructure were

presented.

This was fundamental to present a coherent unit of all the LNG projects that are being carried out in

Europe, since the LNG BC was the first project of this kind to demonstrate the use of LNG as sustitutor

of diesel.

5. Synergies with other EU projects:

The LNG Blue Corridor consortium has collaborated very closely with other EU funded initiatives to

support on the development of the LNG infrastructure:

HDGAS Project: The Kick-off meeting of "HDGAS" Horizon 2020 project took place in Graz, Austria.

Several OEM's are involved. Due to the fact the project focuses in the development of new technology

for LNG heavy duty long haul vehicles LNG Blue Corridors has liaised with this new "HDGAS".

Public information has been therefore shared and will create a communication with this "HDGAS"

project through the WP leaders of each topic (W3, WP4 and WP7, WP8 mainly).

LNG Motion: As part of the project 42 new LNG stations will be built in Europe, paving the way for the

large-scale rollout of LNG fueling stations for truck transportation along the Trans-European Transport

Network (TEN-T). The LNG Motion project comprises a study to evaluate the commercial, operational,

technical, regulatory and environmental aspects of LNG fuelling in truck transportation. In addition, the

feasibility of using bio-LNG as a fuel option and a standardised LNG fuelling payment system will be

studied. In addition, 200 LNG-fuelled trucks will be deployed across the EU to gather data, while

investment for 400 more will be made available, outside of the scope of this project.

Countries involved: France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy, Hungary and

Romania.

CNG Connect: The CNG Connect project will contribute to extend the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas

(LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refueling stations in Belgium. The aim of the project is the

implementation and the study of a pilot network of mother and daughter stations that are linked with

a 'mobile pipeline’. CNG and LNG will be produced at the mother station, then the gas will be

transported by high capacity CNG trailers to the daughter station. The first satellite station will be

located in Hoboken, next to Antwerp, close to the Core Network Corridors Rhine Alpine and North Sea

Mediterranean.

Members States involved: Belgium

Development of LNG/L-CNG network in Finland : The proposal is a pilot action which seeks to

identify and study the optimal solution for an LNG/CNG network and supply chain in Finland. The

project consists of one study, deployment and testing of four LNG/L-CNG refuelling stations in

different urban parts of Finland.

Countries involved: Finland

GREAT – Green REgions with Alternative fuels for Transport: The GREAT project is aiming to ensure

the introduction of alternative fuel infrastructure and vehicles, the decarbonisation of the transport

fleet and the transition away from fossil fuels. Includes the installation of 3 CNG/LNG stations in

Sweden and of 70 triple standard quick chargers over more than 900 km of the Scandinavian-

Mediterranean Corridor and the core road network (in Germany, Sweden and Denmark).

Countries involved: Sweden, Denmark, Germany

BESTWay: The general objective of this project is to identify, implement and validate new LNG/CNG

refueling solutions along the Atlantic Corridor. These solutions aim to address current issues on market

and technical regulations in terms of security, safety, standardization, logistics, public access and

interoperability. This initiative is developing 9 LNG refueling stations along the Corridor (from Algeciras

to Paris), implementing new modular and standard cost effective designs..

Countries involved: France, Spain

CONNECT2LNG: is three-year project that will find ways to break through the current situation in

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) whereby it is the most mature, sustainable and cost-effective alternative

fuel compared with diesel yet lacks a pan-European network of fueling stations. By agreeing longer-

term volumes and routes, transporters can develop a real commercial business case for LNG trucks.

Countries involved: France, Germany

BioMovLNG: The proposal aims at building up an LNG infrastructure with a specific supply of

Biomethane on part of a Core Corridor in France and on the TEN-T network. This will be done through

the set-up of 6 LNG refueling stations dedicated to Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDV) and the installation of a

Biomethane production unit at a Waste Water Treatment Plant. BioMovLNG will address several

transportation modes: road transport for end-users (HDV) on one hand and road, rail and river for

delivering LNG and BioLNG to refueling stations on the other hand.

Countries involved : France

PAN LNG PROJECT: The Hungarian Gas Transport Cluster Association (MGKKE) developed the PAN-

LNG project in order to develop the filling infrastructure of 5 liquefied natural gas (LNG) stations. The

primary objective of the project is to prepare the construction of the infrastructure required for the

development of LNG-based transport and to physically install the first filling points and ensure the

supply thereof. The PAN-LNG project also aims at developing a mid to long-term strategy for the use

of natural and bio-gas in the road transportation in Hungary. The results of the project will contribute

to the Hungarian roadmap required by the 2014/94/EC directive. The project covers various aspects:

6. Conclusion

The LNG Blue Corridor Project is a well-known project across EU. This dissemination strategy carried

out form the beginning of the project has provided LNG BC project with a solid framework against

which disseminating project results and activities.

The consortium has already made good progress in identifying stakeholders, and their own challenges.

Consortium members have a wide range of experiences in all of the different dissemination tools that

we have identified.
