• Willamette Valley• 155 Square Miles• 17,000 Students• 26 Elementary

13 Middle 8 High 3 Charter Schools

• Started in 1854

Eugene SRTS Program

• History of Bicycle & Pedestrian projects from the ‘70s

• Current program started at a pilot school as federal funding for SRTS became available

• A team was formed to bring together City, District, University, & community members

Mission: Eugene Safe Routes to School is a community approach to encourage and enable more people to walk and bike to school safely.

Projects the school district is working on to increase the walkability and bikeability for our students

• Encouragement- Freiker,Walk + Bike Day, Kidical Mass & More!

• Education- BikeEducation & GEARs/BTA• Enforcement- Speed Checks & the Police• Engineering- DesignBridge & the City of Eugene• Evaluation- Surveys, tallies, and reviews

Participated up from 8 two years ago.

• Spring- Green Week: Walk & Roll Day before Earth Day.

• Summer- Bike Day & Blackberry Jamboree

• Every day- walking school buses and bike trains.

the road, share our secret backroads, have fun, review safety tips, and end with ice cream (or a healthy treat)!
