2019isanotherISHyear,andnotonlyforeu.bacanditsmembers.Thefair,whichforthefirsttimewilltakeplacefromMondaytoFriday,andnotfromTuesdaytoSaturdayasinthepast,isprobablythemostimportantfairforourindustryin2019.
The layouthaschangedconsiderablyasa resultof thenew Hall 12 at Messe Frankfurt. Aircontec has beenmoved to Hall 8, heating technology will be located inHalls 11 and 12 and heat distribution, i.e. both pumpsandheatingcontrols,willbeinHall9.
ThebuildingautomationindustrywillremaininHall10.3.The eu.bac and VDMA joint stand will also be locatedthere. Itwillbesurroundedbystandsfrombuildingau-tomation companies, industrial installation companies,the so-called Building Forum, a lecture program co-organizedbyeu.bac,andaBIMpresentation,whichwill,ofcourse,attractattentionduetoitsemphasisonbuild-ingautomationtechnologyandcontrols’products.
The Champagne & Strawberries Reception, which hasbecomeapermanentfixtureand is jointlyorganizedbyeu.bacandVDMAwill takeplaceattheendofthefirstday of the fair. This event primarily promotes network-ing.Iwouldliketoextendawarminvitationtomembersandcompanieswhowanttobecomemembers,andotherinterestedparties.
The eu.bac members will show all their innovations atISH,presentnewconceptsandprojectsandlookforwardto meeting numerous visitors and new contacts fromhomeandabroad.

2019 est de nouveau l’année d’ISH pour eu.bac etsesmembres.Lesalon,quipourlapremièrefois,nesetiendrapasdumardiausamedimaisdu lundiauvendredi, est le salon le plus important pour notreindustrieen2019.
L’organisation des halls a considérablement changéenraisondunouveauhall12delafoiredeFrancfort.Aircontec (Air-Conditioning, Cooling and Ventila-tionTechnology)adoncdéménagédans lehall8, latechnologie de chauffage dans les halls 11 et 12 etla répartition de la chaleur, ainsi que les pompes etlescommandesdechauffage,setrouventmaintenantdanslehall9.

eu.bac: The ISH is the key show for those looking to source HVAC + Water related products and design. Why is the ISH so successful?
Stefan Seitz: ISH is the world’sleading trade fair focusing on theresponsible management of waterandenergyinbuildings.Itsetstrendsfor modern bathroom design, sus-tainableheatingandair-conditioningtechnology as well as intelligenthomesystems.
Noothershowisassharplyfocusedon forward-looking subjects suchas the conservation of resourcesand the use of renewable energies.In addition, this show successfullycombines60 yearsof traditionwithinnovative solutions for tomorrow.Many of the ISH exhibitors presenttheir products and solutions world-wideforthefirsttimeattheISH.
eu.bac: This year, the ISH announced a change of days from Monday to Friday. What are the reasons for this shift?
Stefan Seitz: As internationalvisitors prefer to arrive in Frankfurtattheweekendbeforethetradefairstarts, Monday will be the perfectday for the ISHkick-off.Webelievethechangeofdayswillassist travelplanning and therefore convincevisitorstostarthereonthefirstdayof the week. In addition, ISH is atrade fair for professional visitors –therefore five working days is moreconvenientforvisitingthefair.
eu.bac: Could you tell us more about the house and building automation section at the ISH?
Stefan Seitz:Thehouseandbuild-ingautomation,andenergymanage-ment sections are placed with themeasurementandcontroltechnologysectionsaswellastestingequipmentin Halls 10.2 and 10.3. Here thefocus lies on networking betweenthevariouscomponents–thistakesintoaccount the factand the futureprospectthatbuildingsaremoreandmoreoftenequippedwithhigh-com-plex electronic building automationsystems,whichconnect,controlandcoordinatetheprocessesofalltech-nical facilities. Building automationbecomes therefore more and moreimportantandconnectsthetradestoformanintegratedsystem.
Intelligent house and building auto-mation optimizes itself according tothe number of people in the build-ing. The integration of componentssuchasheating,ventilation,lightandmanymoreallowsamultidisciplinaryapproach in order to consume aslittleenergyaspossibleandsimulta-neouslyoffermaximumcomfort.
eu.bac: There are many comple-mentary programmes taking place at the ISH 2019. Which events are worth a visit?
Stefan Seitz: The comprehensivecomplementaryprogrammeofeventsrounds off the visit to the ISH. It issubdivided into three main catego-ries – Selection, Skills and Career–making it easier for all visitors to
orientate themselves according totheirareasofinterest.
The huge variety of lecture pro-grammes, numerous forums andISH seminars offer an opportunityto gather information, to exchangeknowledge, and to deepen andenlarge existing knowledge aroundtopics related to the responsiblemanagementofwaterandenergyinbuildings.Just topicka fewevents inHall10out of the subdivision “Skills@ISH”– for instance, the Building Forumin Hall 10.3 shows innovative solu-tions for the professional planning,constructionandoperationofbuild-ings and property with the aim ofensuringcomfort,safetyandenergyefficiency.Thefocusofthispresen-tation by the building-automationindustryisonrequirementsformoni-toring, benchmarking and detectingmalfunctions and analysing controlstrategies for building services andtechnical installations. The compa-nies taking part will be presentingintelligent complete concepts forbuilding services, including districtsolutionsandoptionsforconnectingtosmartgrids.
[email protected],visitorscanlookforwardtoanunrivalled BIM presentation show-ing the use of BIM along the entire’planning, building and operation’value chain. Within this process,therewillalsobeademonstrationofprefabrication on the basis of BIMdataanditsintegrationintheoverallBIMprocess.

In order to update your specialistknowledge at the interface of con-nected security technology withmodern building automation andtechnical building services equip-ment: The Intersec Forum 2019offers you expert knowledge andnetworking in Hall 10.3. on twoconferencedaysparalleltotheISH.
And last but not least: The RealEstateForum inHall10.3promotesdialogue between the real-estatesector and building services andtechnical installations, which is ofincreasingimportance.Thedemandsplaced on building-services tech-nology are becoming increasinglycomplex in both the new-buildingandmodernisation sectors.BuildingInformation Modelling, district solu-tionsandenergyefficiencyarejustafewoftherelevantaspects.
eu.bac: Industry, whether the building or the design sector, needs new talents and trainees. How does the ISH attract these newcomers?
Stefan Seitz: The subdivisionCareer@ISHisanofferfromMesseFrankfurt in order to promoteprofessionals and trainees as wellas young talent from the sectorsof ISH and consists of numerousdifferentprojects.
At ISH2019 for thefirst time therewill be the possibility for universi-tiestopresentthemselveswiththeirstudycoursesandresearchprojectswithinasmallboothtothetradefairaudience.
In addition, a platform like ISH,where the whole sector comes
together provides a good opportu-nitytopresentajobmarketforthesector. During the fair, exhibitorswill have the possibility to pres-ent their positions online as wellas physically during the fair to thevisitorsofISH.Asavisitoryoumighthavethechancetogetincontactwithyour future employer / HR-contactperson inordertofindoutwhatthefuturewillbringtoyouprofessionally.

Stefan Seitz :LessectionsMaisonet automatisation des bâtimentsainsi que la gestion de l’énergiesont placées avec les technologiesde mesure et de contrôle ainsi queleséquipementsdetestsituésdansles halls 10.2 et 10.3. C’est là quese concentre l’accent sur la miseen réseau des différents corps demétier−enfonctiondufaitetdelaperspectivefuturequelesbâtimentsdisposentdeplusenplussouventdesystèmes électroniques complexes,qui connectent, contrôlent et coor-donnentlesprocessusdetouteslesinstallations techniques. L’automati-sationdesbâtimentsdevientdoncdeplusenplusimportanteetconnectelesmétiersàunsystèmeintégré.
La domotique intelligente et l’auto-matisation du bâtiment s’optimisenten fonction du nombre de per-sonnesprésentesdans lebâtiment.L’intégration des métiers comme lechauffage, la ventilation, la lumièreet bien d’autres encore permet uneapproche multidisciplinaire afin deconsommer lemoinsd’énergiepos-sibletoutenoffrantunmaximumdeconfort.

Stefan Seitz :Leprogrammed’évé-nements complète la visite à l’ISH.Il est subdivisé en trois catégoriesprincipales − Sélection, Compé-tences et Carrière− ce qui permetàtouslesvisiteursdes’orienterplusfacilementpardomainesd’intérêt.
La grande variété de conférences,de forums, de séminaires sur lesalon ISH offre la possibilité derassembler des informations,d’échanger, d’approfondir et d’élar-gir lescompétenceset lesconnais-sances liées aux sujets relatifs à lagestion responsable de l’eau et del’énergiedanslesbâtiments.
Il suffit de choisir quelques événe-ments dans le hall 10 de la sous-division«Lescompétencesàl’ISH»− par exemple, le Building Forumdanslehall10.3présentedessolu-tions innovantes pour la planifica-tion, la construction et l’exploitationprofessionnelles de bâtiments et debiensimmobiliersdanslebutd’assu-rer leconfort, lasécuritéet l’effica-cité énergétique.Cetteprésentationdu secteur de la gestion techniquedubâtimentmetl’accentsurlesexi-gences en matière de surveillance,d’analyse comparative et de détec-tion des défaillances, ainsi que surl’analyse des stratégies de contrôledesservicesdeconstructionetdesinstallations techniques. In 2018, the eu.bac KPI workinggrouppublished46keyperformanceindicators in a specification withdefinitions of the algorithms and arecommendation for the evaluationoftheKPIs.Partofthisfirstversionwas a release of 20 KPI definitions(Prio1KPIs).
In the meantime, the KPI WorkingGrouphascontinuedtoworkontheKPI definitions and has discussedandrevisedtheKPIsmarked”Prior-ity2”indetail.Errorswereremovedand the quality of the documenta-tion further improved. Now, just intimeforISH2019,anewversionofthe document will be published byeu.bac.

Proposal for changes to the temperature control classes in transitional methods of measurement and calculation for space heaters’ energy labelling
1. Current temperature control classes
The energy labelling regulation forspace heaters requires a packagelabel to be produced when tem-perature controls are combined ina ’package’ with a space heater.The efficiency of the package willbe better than the efficiency ofthe space heater on its own be-cause an efficiency improvement of1% – 5% is added based on theclassofthetemperaturecontrol.Thecurrent temperature control classesareshowninfigurebelow.
2. eu.bac proposal for interim changes
ThecurrentLot38PreparatoryStudyonecodesignrequirementsforBuild-ingAutomationandControlSystems(BACS) proposes that the tempera-turecontrolclasseswouldultimatelybe integrated within this regulation.eu.bac supports this proposal asthe current (Lot 1) efficiency upliftsdo not represent the full systemefficiency impact of the controltypes1.Working towardsLot38willallowus tocarryoutstudieson thetrueenergysavingpotentialofthesetemperature control classes to pro-videtotheEuropeanCommission.
The definitions of the temperaturecontrol classes were set nearly tenyearsagoandeu.bacbelieves that,for the interim, these need to berevisedtoaddresssomeanomalies.
However,itiscurrentlyarequirementfor manufacturers of temperaturecontrolstoinclude,withintheproductbrochureorotherliteratureprovidedwith the product, both the class ofthetemperaturecontrolanditscon-tribution to seasonal space heatingenergy efficiency in %, rounded toone decimal place (the latter beingthe ’score’ in figure). so thatthisdoesnot introducecoststo industry tochangeexisting litera-ture.Thedefinitions themselvesarenotintheregulation,butintheCom-mission’sCommunicationoninterimtesting and calculation methods,and(intheabsenceofaharmonizedstandard) should be updated toreflectcurrentpracticeandtechnolo-gies.
Changestothewordingofthedefini-tionsareproposedonlywheretheseare currently too narrow. Therefore,any temperature control productthat sits within a particular classwouldmainwithinthatcontrolclassand no changes to the informationrequirements for that productwould be needed. Widening certaindefinitionswouldsimplyensure thatother control products clearly fallwithinparticularclassesandarenotexcluded, as currently, through
unintended consequences of thecurrentdefinitions.
The changes proposed reflect theinitial Preparatory Study forthis regulation which noted thatcompensatingcontrolscanvaryfeedtemperatures of space heaters byeither controlling the burner witha proportional on/off signal ordirectly modulating the burner. Thisapproach is reflected within thetemperature control classes butwithsomeexceptions.Thefollowingchangesarethereforeproposed:
1. Class IV should be a genericload compensating control usingproportional on/off control. Thiswould include TPI controls thatcurrentlyfallunderclassIVbutnotexclude other similar control de-vicesthatusedifferentalgorithms.
2. Class VIII should be extendedto include proportional on/offcontrolaswellasmodulatingtheburner. Again this would includeproductscurrentlyinClassVIIIbutnotexcludeothersimilardevices.
3. Any classes that reference theboiler (e.g. “for use with on/offoutput heaters”) should bechanged to refer to the form ofcontrol(e.g.“weathercompensat-ing control, on/off”). This wouldbemoreappropriateasrestrictingthe application should be donethrough technical guidance fromthe installer. This would then bebetter able to reflect memberstate variations in applicationsgiven that the classes cover awiderangeoffossilfuelledboilersandheatpumpsetc.

garantirait simplement que d’autresproduits de contrôle sont affectésde manière unique à des classesparticulières et ne sont pas exclus,comme à l’heure actuelle, par lesdéfinitionsactuelles.
Lesmodificationsproposéesreflètentl’étude préparatoire initiale de ceprogramme.Ilaétéconstatéquedescontrôles compensateurs peuventfairevarierlatempératurededépartdessystèmesdechauffageindépen-dants en contrôlant le brûleur avecun signal proportionnel marche /arrêtouenmodulantdirectementlebrûleur.Cette approcheest reflétéedans les classes de contrôle de latempérature, à quelques exceptionsprès.Parconséquent, lesmodifica-tionssuivantessontproposées:

Sporting challenge – L&T sports store Osnabrück, Germany
In these days of online shopping, department stores must offer a unique kind of experience to attract visitors. You can surf in the new L&T sports house build-ing in Osnabrück. This is not digitally, but in real life, in a 100 m² pool with a multi-storey atrium rising above it. Such an innovative concept naturally pre-sents special challenges for auto-mation technology.
ThenewL&TsportsoutletbuildinginOsnabrück impresseswith itsasym-metrical,dynamicfacade.Theinterioralsomoves− inthetruestsenseofthe word. In the basement there isthe"Hasewelle",anindoorsurfpoolnamedafter theHase,asmall riverin the city of Osnabrück. The poolgenerates a standing wave, up to1.4 metres high. Why is it extraor-dinary? The pool area opens ontothe restof theshop,withoutspatialseparationfromtheretailareas.
L&TdevelopedandimplementedthebuildingautomationwiththehelpofthetechnicalofficeofKieback&Peterin Osnabrück. Here is an interviewwith L&T’s Technical Director, LutzBrinkmann.
Mr. Brinkmann, when you were of-fered the idea of the ”Hasewelle”, what was your initial reaction?
I knew immediately, of course, thatthiswouldbeanenormouschallenge.There are some indoor wave pools.ButIdon’tknowofanyprojectswheresuchapoolisopenlyintegratedintoashoppingcentre.Obviously,thispres-entsarealchallengefortheventilationsystem.Nomoisturecanbeallowedtospreadinsidethebuilding.
What was the solution?
Sensors determine the humidity inthe area of the pool and the tem-perature in the sales areas. Thetemperaturesareimportantbecauseahighairtemperatureleadstomorecondensation on the relatively largewatersurface.ThesensorstransmitthesevaluestotheDDCs.Actuatorsthenexecutethecontrolcommands.Ifnecessary,anactuatorintheven-tilation system directs additionaldehumidifiedairtothe”Hasewelle”.
The ventilation system of the surfpool also has an air dehumidifier.Together with the air duct, thisensures that no moisture reachesthesalesareas.Anautomaticcontrolsystem guarantees that the shaft’sdrive pumps can only start if theventilationsystemsworkperfectly.
The building management system (BMS) also includes a nitrogen enrichment system...
Yes,becausewealsohaveroomsinwhichhighaltitudeairconditionsaresimulatedfortrainingpurposes.TheNeutrino-GLT from Kieback&Petersupplies the plant with a pre-con-ditioned air supply as required andexchanges data with the nitrogenenrichmentplant.
What else does the control technology do?
It integrates the air conditioning,ventilation and lighting of the newbuildingintotheexistingautomationofoperationalbuildings.Itvisualisesallparametersofeverysystemcom-ponentonthePCscreen,fromwheretarget values can be convenientlyadjusted.
The pool has been in operation since March 2018. Was it worth the effort?
Definitely. It is almost always fullybooked and the visitors are reallyenthusiasticaboutit;thefacilityrunsperfectly. Of course it requires alot of maintenance and we have toreadjustitfromtimetotime.Butthisis due to the unusual nature of theproject.
Wehavedevelopedaprototypehere;there are still no empirical valuesin many areas. I really enjoy theseinnovative projects, and I wasalso impressed by the enthusiasmshown by the Kieback&Peter stafffrom the very beginning.And that’swhatyouneedto implementsuchachallengingproject.
