TheEUGlobalStrategyof2016identifiedfivestrategicpriorityactions:i)security&defence,ii)building
resilience and taking an integrated approach, iii) strengthening
the
internal/externalnexus,iv)updatingexistingstrategiesandpreparingnewoneandv)enhancingpublicdiplomacy.InMarch2017,theEUForeignAffairsCouncilagreedonstrengtheningthesynergiesbetweentherelevantelementsoftheclimateandenergydiplomaciesaspartoftheimplementationoftheEUGlobalStrategyandestablishedasetofoverallclimateprioritiesfor2017.
In parallel, the global energy and climate security outlook is
changing based on variousdevelopments, including the end of the
resource boom, the entry into force of the
ParisAgreement,profoundtechnologicalchangesinenergysupplyanddemand(e.g.shalegasandoil,digitalrevolution,renewablesbecomingcostcompetitive),theSustainableDevelopmentGoals(SDGs)aswellasgradualadaptationtoclimatechange.
ThisconferenceisorganisedjointlybytheEEASandthreeprominentthinktanksCEPS,IDDRIandIAI.Participantswill:-
Focusonissuessuchasenergyandclimateasdriversofconflictandmigrationandexamine
howarenewedandintegratedEUapproachtobothenergysecurityandclimatesecuritycanhelpreinforceglobalsecurityandstrengthenEuropeanresilience.

Discusstheevolvingchanges,theirimplicationsandpossiblepolicyoptionsfortheEU.InthatsensetheeventcouldhelpidentifythemajorsecurityrisksandhowtheEUcanbestaddressthem.
Specialattentionwillbegiventoenergysecurityandthesecurityimplicationsofclimatechangein
light of the objective of ensuring a resilient EuropeanUnion, as
outlined in the EUGlobalStrategy.
