European Union
• 27 Member States• To join the EU a country must meet the following
criteria:– They require a stable democracy that respects
human rights and the rule of law; – a functioning market economy capable of
competition within the EU; – the acceptance of the obligations of membership,
including EU law
G8
• G6 – Formed in 1975.
• G7 – In 1976 Canada was added.
• G8 – In 1997 Russia was added.
• There are actually 9 members; the EU is included, but not a full member.
G20
• The G20 was proposed by Canadian finance minister Paul Martin (eventually Canada’s Prime Minister)
• It includes the 20 major economies of the world.
Your task:
• to make a map of the world, showing all of the participating countries, and then produce overlays of countries that belong to:– The European Union– The G8 (Includes the EU)– The G20 (Includes the G8)

• Your titles should be ‘– World Trade– World Trade: EU– World Trade: G8– World Trade: G20
• We will put your EU, G8, G20 maps on transparencies, to overlay on your base map of countries.
• (Once your maps are complete and correct, we will photocopy them on to the transparencies.)
Once you have completed your maps….
Team Challenge & Quiz
• Each team is to come up with a five question quiz, answerable with the map and overlays you have created.(T/F, M.C., Fill in Blank, Multi-Part, etc.)
• On Friday you will be given the other team’s quiz; you will only be able to use your maps/overlays as reference.
