Is it really so important to discuss Ethics at Work ? Aren’t we all ethical ? Then, why do we need to talk about Ethics?

OH, yes . Everybody is ethical. Everybody knows how to behave at work. Everybody is disciplined , honest, trustworthy and comply with the rules, etc.

Are we? !!! . Yes , we are. We don’t steal ,we respect all , we are fair , we are all “good” .

Are you sure 100%, or you want to change the % !!!


Introduction

OK, let’s see. Please answer below questions.

Q1 : Do people come to work a bit late (sometimes)?

Q2 : Do people spend time doing non-business chatting ?

Q3 : Do people play with the net during working hours?

Q4 : Do people download some none business items to their computer?

Q5 : Do people forget to complete few tasks related to their work?

Q6 : Do people see some “ wrong acts” and don’t report them?

Q7 : Do people ignore phone call / don’t read e-mails ?

Q8 : Do people go for training based in location and not content?

Q9 : Do people attend meetings and their minds are somewhere else?

Q10:Do people “don’t do” many other small things that if you add them or keep repeating them then they make the difference between being ethical or not.

( Ethics is not only about “BIG” things , it is also about those many little

So, how is your scores in answering those questions?

During our working day , we do many things that we do not give enough attention to. We assume that they are “OKAY” . But when we think about them then we realize that they are “NOT OKAY” at all .

And if you put yourself in the employer shoes you will be very upset.

So, what to do?

Easy ,

Perform your work with INTERGRITY and you can rarely miss.

Trust me and give it a try.


1. Disciplined Dependability:

Build the trust between yourself and your employer/boss:

Come to work on time and leave on time ( 7:30 am – 4:00 pm).

Make sure you spend your time doing your job and not something else.

Complete your tasks “as good as you can” in due time.

Be a resources person whenever needed.

Be positive and have fun.

Comply with the rules, regulations, policies, procedures …

Etc…

Remember, Characters count…


2. Love & Care (Job & self):

Love your work and what you are doing.

Have an interest in your job, in the business, in the whole thing.

Take good care of your development and growth.

Get training, help , advice whenever needed.

Make sure you add value to the business at large.

See; it is not difficult, but still more to come.


3. Reality ; is the magic stick:

Within each persons life, there are good things and bad things, easy and hard, happiness and sadness etc.

And as we spend around one third of our day at work, and work is no different; it has good/interesting tasks/duties as well as boaring/ dull ones.

So,

We need to accept the requests to do the dull/boaring work , just like accepting the nice/fun/challenging work.


4. Total Quality Concept “ do it right the first time”

Make sure you always deal with every element of the tasks you are doing in a professional way. Keep in mind that you will always do the best you can to do an excellent work from A 2 Z.

Remember that you will be the owner of such task; and I am sure you want to do an excellent job.

See , it is not that hard,,, simple acts does produce excellent performance.


5. Professionalism:

When you joined your employer(company), you signed a working contract which explains the work terms and conditions. Now you need to respect such contract which you have excepted and agreed upon.

The employer is paying you to perform such work to the best of your ability. Therefore, do your best in performing the job. Get all the help needed, resources etc to do your job to the level of your employers expectations.

Perform your job with integrity…


6. Work vs. Home :

Do not forget family and friends “out of office life”. Make sure you draw a nice balance . If you do well at work; it is very likely that you will do well outside; and the opposite is true.
