During a recent visit to the beautiful Italian regionof Tuscany, Etcetera magazine has had the chanceto catch up with Boro legend MassimoMaccarone.
We met Massimo in a restaurant near the town ofCertaldo, amongst the Chianti vineyards and thepicturesque hilltop villages dating back to therenaissance, and had the opportunity to meet his wife
Jessica and beautiful daughter Ginevra, who is now overa year old and full of mischief.
Massimo seems to thrive in Tuscany, where after a spellplaying for Siena and scoring overall 40 goals for theclub in serie A, in the last couple of years has beenplaying for Empoli, the Team from which he came fromwhen he joined Middlesbrough. This time he has helpedthe team, that in the 2011-12 season only managed toavoid relegation to serie C, to the serie B play off finallast season scoring 17 goals on the way but missing outon a return to serie A by a single goal, and this year isonce again playing his part to help keeping Empoli at the
top of serie B, and in pole position for a possible return tothe Italian top division.
Although his time at Middlesbrough had highs and lowsMassimo has not forgotten the fans at the Riverside, andhas asked Etcetera to bring his best wishes to everyoneon Teesside, where he hopes one day to visit once againto enjoy a good Parmo!
Arrivederci Massimo

Orangeries can provide a uniquemultipurpose living space for everyhome, from kitchen extension, livingroom, dining room or playroom.
Our Orangery uses the market leadingGlobal roof with a well engineeredinternal framework, which is thenplastered, and gives the roof aperimeter ceiling all the way round.
Within this perimeter ceiling you canchoose to add downlighters or hi-fispeakers giving you the opportunity to
personalise your newroom.
Viewed fromoutside, the roofof the Orangery is partiallyhidden by a decorative fascia and thisshapely cornice conceals the Orangerygutter for a more attractive externalappearance.
A conventional fully glazedconservatory might not be toeveryones taste, therefore the addedstyle and decorative elegance of anorangery creates a more susbstantialand interesting effect.

Virtual Gastric Band HypnosisWant to Lose Weight?
Hypnosis works with the subconscious part of our mind. Becausemost eating habits are deeply ingrained in the subconscious.
Virtual Gastric Band hypnosis treatment is targeted to that area
of the mind to re-program your eating habits and yourrelationship with food. Most people who follow a traditional diet system will lose weightwhilst they are on that diet. But, as soon as the diet stops, the weight invariably returns, oftenleaving those heavier than before the diet began! It is estimatedthat 95 per cent of all people who diet experience this cycle. Most diets include some form of deprivation and/or denial someinvolve counting calories, or points, but merely serve toprogramme the mind to think about food. Thus, when anindividual gives up the diet, they will find themselves thinkingabout food more than they ever did before!
And, in the denial of comfort foods, in eating different meals tothe rest of the family three thing happen, the brain fights againstit, the body fights against and the day to day environment fightsagainst it.Conscious self denial of something can often increase the desirefor that very thing, and eating a little less than we need buteating anything we want can actually lead to weight loss.Everyone knows that eating less and exercising more will lead to
a better body shape, improved fitness and all-round health. Thisprogramme employs an imaginary gastric band operation andother mind management techniques, it is not a diet. It enables
clients to form new habits that they can maintain, there is nodeprivation and thus clients are liberated from having to thinkabout food all the time; they eat consciously, and are able tolisten to what their stomachs are telling them. The result issteady, progressive weight loss without dieting.
This programme consists of five sessions that encourageindividuals to be satisfied on smaller amounts of food and toexercise and bring about a permanent change in a personseating habits. This is not a short-term fix this is a potentially life-changing treatment.
Elaine is a UKCP registered qualified psychotherapist with twentyyears experience in the field. With this she has a psychologicalunderstanding which enhances her work as Virtual Gastric BandPractitioner.

Did you know? Its whats going on inside your head that controls your eating habits.
famsheeThe fascination of how one can create extra ordinaryart work on a wall or a stretched canvas is whatmade Fam decide to become a painter rather than aplaywright.
I did have ambitions of becoming a playwright butsoon realized I was a better painter than I was a
playwright.
During his time at University he developed a massivelove of realism painting especially in portrait painting. He needed to create as much realism as possible andspent hours in his studio studying the human anatomyand flesh colours.
Fam is now a professional Muralist and his job is totransform your artistic ideas on a wall. He usesvibrant colours when painting cartoon characters onkids bedroom walls; as well as harmonious colours
that can bring calm and tranquillity in a hospitalsetting.
Fam has painted Murals in kids bedrooms at homesin the North East and has also painted a Mural at theButterwick Hospice which was featured in theNorthern Echo.
He is open to commissions from corporate settingsand schools & Nurseries around the North East.

My lady friends seem tofall into two categories, one is the type that wearsfootwear to keep their feetfrom coming into contactwith the floor, irrespectiveof what they look like, andthe other has a little heartflutter anytime that shoes
are mentioned!.I must admit I do tend to fallinto the latter category, andhave been known to buyshoes in sales that are slightlytoo small, on the off chancethat as they are so lovely, they will fit me one day.
There is something aboutquality high heeled shoesthat hold your foot like a kid
skin glove, that is enough toturn the head of the hardesthearted Birkenstock wearer.
In a moment of madness werecently purchased the entireshoe stock from a Vintageclothing shop that had toclose, (I also admit to buyingtheir hats and handbags).
It felt like Christmas, - boxesof fabulous leather, and skin
shoes from Victorian to1950s in assorted sizes andcolours. When I put some inthe window, they acted like amagnet, drawing in shoelovers, who just wanted tohandle the exquisite shoes,(some of which have neverbeen worn), and those withsmall enough feet managedto go home with happysmiles on their faces, clutching their prizes.
It leads me into thinkingabout the fascinating historyof Twentieth Centuryfootwear. How after the FirstWorld War, everyone tried toforget the burdens andrestrictions of wartime, whennew colours and fabricsappeared in the market, andstyles were more varied than
ever each season. It was notonly the rich, that could takeadvantage of the newdesigns, as new shoecompanies appeared by the
end of the 1920s, and thecost of mass productionmade shoes more affordable.
Sandals appeared in themiddle of the 20s, as peoplewere no longer shocked atthe sight of an open foot. They became popular for
evening wear, as well as forsporty day wear in theSummer. In the 1930s, theheels on sandals becamehigher, platforms and wedgeswere introduced, and werecovered with Crepe deChine, satin, kid leather, andreptile skins.
Wartime regulations decreedthat heels could not be over
2 in height and thewedges were made of cork, with no covering.Make doand mend was the order ofthe day, and styles weremore utilitarian. We are luckyto have some of these stylesin our collection.
When Dior designedtheNew Look, the massiveplatforms and wedgesbecame inappropriate andwere replaced with narrowpumps and sandals. It wasItalian and French footweardesigners that narrowed theheel to to add elegance andfragility to a new femininesilhouette. This carried on tothe 1950s and 1960s whenstilettos were in fashion, andthe shoes tapered to points.
Considering that feet havebeen pretty much the sameshape all these years, it isamazing how the fashionindustry has chosen toencase them, not always tothe benefit of the wearers.
It is not about feet.. it isabout shoes!

If you have any comments on the master plan
designed to revive the fortunes of the airport atDurham Tees Valley, you only have until 10th January
2014 to make them. Submissions have to be received
by midday on the tenth.
To make it easy, theres a questionnaire online at
www.DTVA-Master-Plan.co.uk
From the heady days of 2007, the usage of DurhamTees Valley has slumped by 77%. It one of the steepestdeclines of any UK regional airport, and thats a sectorfull of many weak and failing operations. Prestwickin Scotland has just been renationalised, and Cardiffhas had the same treatment, whilst Plymouth hasclosed down altogether. DTVA, renamed from the oldTeesside Airport which name still survives on themotorway signs on the A1(M) is certainly struggling. On 21 September 2004 the airport was renamedDurham Tees Valley Airport as part of a majorredevelopment plan. The renaming was unpopularwith many local residents. The name was changedin order to place the airport better geographically, as
many of the airports passengers, particularly thosefrom outside the UK, were unfamiliar with the locationof Teesside, whilst Durham is better known. But formany residents of Durham, the much better connectedairport at Newcastle is the preferred choice. LeedsBradford has also grown as the expense of DVTA.
A new access road, terminal front and terminal interiorwere completed, but the remainder of a planned 56million expansion and development programme whichwould have enabled the airport to handle up to 3
million passengers annually never materialised due tothe above mentioned decrease in passenger numbers.Other minor developments have seen new airfieldlighting installed and during 2012, six-figure sumsspent revamping the terminal building and renovatingone of the World War II-era hangars.
Passenger numbers peaked in 2006 when the airportwas used by 917,963 passengers, but declined to164,826 in 2012, the lowest level seen at the airportsince 1972.
A glance at the departures board shown suggests youcan only go to two places beginning with A: Aberdeenor Amsterdam. It looks like there are plenty of flightsto those two places until you realise that the displayshows all the departures for the rest of today, andtomorrow too!
DURHAM TEES VALLEY AIRPORT
MASTER PLAN FORAtlanteanon
Peel Airports, the private sector owner of the airport, accept they are going to lose money for some time tocome, but have put forward ambitious plans to securethe future of the airport, with new buildings on thenorth side and the south side of the airport, and a newfreight siding from the Darlington to Middlesbroughrailway line. A vibrant mixed use community oforganisations is proposed around the airfield site. Theairport has given up on the charter market and willconcentrate on its core routes, but establishing a linkto London again after BMI pulled out is a priority.
All in all, its a brave plan for an airport which sawits better days in 2004-7 and since then has been inperhaps terminal decline. Becoming a niche marketbusiness aviation centre with its links to well-connected Amsterdam Schipol and Aberdeen for
the oil and chemical industries may be the kernel forfuture growth, and I was not the only one at a businessbriefing who was surprised to know DVTA has links toWick (for John OGroats) and Stornaway via Aberdeen.
Postscript to last month: Sarah got 500 ofher 800 back from that nasty little addictioncompany and was told to accept it and shut up orgo into open court and have her addiction revealed. She chose to lose the remaining 300.
Question: The airport code for Durham Tees ValleyAirport is MME. Anybody know why?
Atlantean offers a prize for the best response.Write to [email protected]

Places to go
ShildonWhen days are short and cold, most people dont want to go ontrips away by train for pleasure, but heres a trip which might
appeal: to the cradle of therailways in Shildon, Co. Durham, which can be reached on thebranch line from Darlington toBishop Auckland. Check your traintimes in advance to maximise yourday. The site of the NationalRailway Museum offshoot, knownas Locomotion, is interesting butrather spread out: it takes twelveminutes to walk from one end to
the other. If you arrive by train at Shildonstation you can enter half waybetween the two ends by piece ofartwork, a large pillar withcoloured lights called Light Engineby Peter Freeman. You can controlthe light display by texting the
name of six locomotives, includingSans Pereil, Magnet and Arrow to

Theres a large exhibition hall tothe east with seven rail tracks
crammed full of locomotives, carriages, models, and special
railway equipment such as snowploughs and a horse box. Thatsalso the end with the caf and thewell-stocked shop. At the otherend there are various historichouses including engineer TimothyHackworths own house, theparcel office, Welcome Centre and

Now that you have dried your eyes after the Christmas nativity play and the
haloes, tinsel and crooks have been packed away, what will there be to lift
your childs spirits and allow them to shine for the rest of the year?
Stagecoach will provide your child with performance training and
develop their confidence and life skills on a weekly basis. They will find
like-minded friends and a family atmosphere at Stagecoach.
We are now enrolling children aged from rising 4 years old to 16 years for
the new term starting in January
Please ring (01325) 337667 (24hrs for details)
for details of classes at Teesside High on Sundays
