Purpose To provide assistance for the education of individuals who are actively employed by an AFMA member company and committed to a career in the Arizona retail food industry. Payment Upon completion of the class, student must provide in writing evidence of a grade of at least a “C” or better. Email final grade to [email protected]. Once the final grade has been received, the student will receive a check by mail. Objectives Funds appropriated through the Scholarship program can be used to attend an accredited community college, college or university located in the state of Arizona. Eligibility All current employees of AFMA member companies are eligible to apply for a Scholarship, if the employee has at least one year of experience in the retail food industry. Funding Scholarship is awarded based on fundraising levels from the prior year and may be used to cover the expense of tuition, fees and textbooks. Requirements Scholarship is available to individuals who: ● Plan to pursue a career in the retail food industry ● Carry a minimum of 3 credit hours Review Criteria Scholarships will be awarded upon the decision of the Review Committee. The Committee’s decision will be based on: ● Retail food industry occupational goals ● Retail food industry work experiencet ● Academic achievement ● Financial need ● Required documentation Applicants may not apply for both tuition reimbursement and a scholarship in the same calendar year. A written recommendation from the applicant’s supervisor (preferably on company letter head) must be attached to the application. RETAIL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE SCHOLARSHIP The Arizona Food and Drug Industry Education Foundation was established solely and exclusively to support and encourage education, training and instruction for AFMA member company employees. Certificate of Completion in Retail Management ● Human Relations/Organizational Behavior — Learn human re- lationship techniques and leadership skills for building strong employer-employee relations. ● Computer Applications (Technology) — Learn the latest software applications for business including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation graphics. ● Business Communication Skills for Managers — Develop strate- gies for effective internal and external business communications, including verbal and nonverbal techniques, writing, and public speaking. ● Principles of Management — Learn key management concepts and principles to improve business efficiency and productivity. ● Principles of Marketing — Learn basic marketing strategies and tech- niques with regard to the product, pricing, distribution, and communication. ● Human Resources Management — Be prepared to handle real em- ployee issues. Learn the skills for human resource planning, staffing, training, compensation, and managing labor relationships. ● Financial Management & Budgeting — Learn to use account- ing, budgeting, and other financial management tools to create, inter- pret, and analyze financial information for successful operation of a business. ● Retail Management — Learn retail management and store op- erations including merchandising, operations, layout, store organiza- tion, site location, and customer service.
