Fredrik Pacius (19.03.1809 Hamburg – 08.01.1891 Helsinki) oli saksa helilooja ja dirigent, kes suurema osa elust töötas Soomes. Pacius valiti Helsingi Ülikooli muusikaõpetajaks 1834.a. Fredrik Pacius (19.03.1809 Hamburg – 08.01.1891 Helsinki) was a German composer and conductor who lived most of his life in Finland. Pacius was appointed music teacher at the University of Helsinki in 1834. In Helsinki he founded a musical society, a student choir and an orchestra. His compositions also include a violin concerto, a symphony, a string quartet and several operas. He has been called the „Father of Finnish music“. In 1848 Pacius wrote the music to the poem „Vårt land“ by Johan Ludvig Runeberg, which was to become Finland's national anthem. The same Pacius’s music was also used for the Estonian national anthem „Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm“ (My Native land, my Joy, Delight), first published with independent estonian text by Voldemar Jannsen in 1860. Eduard Tamm (17. 05. 1879 Narva – 18. 05. 1941 Võru) lõpetas Peterburi Konservatooriumi 1904. a. kuldaurahaga metsasarve erialal. Juba varem oli ta valitud keiserlikku õukonnaorkestrisse metsasarve mängima, töötas ka Maria teatri orkestris ja oli paažide korpuses muusikaõpetaja. E. Tamme esimesed loomekatsetused on helilooja enda poolt dateeritud aastaga 1901, seni teadaolevalt ka esimene eesti helilooja poolt komponeeritud marss (“Sivershaus”) kuulub E. Tammele ja on loodud 1902.a. Pärast võidukat Vabadussõda saabus E. Tamm 1920.a tagasi Eestisse. 1923.a tehti talle ettepanek asuda juhtima Võru Garnisoni orkestrit. 18 aastat Võrus ei piirdunud kaugeltki sõjaväekapellmeistri tegevusega. E. Tammest sai Võru linna muusikahing. Ta asus juhtima “Kandle” seltsi sümfoniettorkestrit, moodustas väiksemaid tantsuorkestreid, juhatas “Kandles” operetietendusi, tegutses koorijuhi ja muusikaõpetajana. E. Tamm oli oma ajastu (1920-40) kõige viljakam puhkpilliorkestrile kirjutav eesti helilooja (kokku üle 50 teose). Puhkpillimuusika kullafondi kuuluvad kindlasti tema avamängud (“Kalev ja Linda”, Tule koju” jt), samuti fantaasiad, popurriid, valsid, polkad, karakterpalad, aga kindlasti suur hulk marsse. „Pidulik Eesti marss“ osales 1922.a riigi uue piduliku marsi konkursil, kuid ei osutunud valituks. Tänapäeval on see marss eesti riigitseremooniate lahutamatu osa. Eduard Tamm (17. 05. 1879 Narva – 18. 05. 1941 Võru) was graduated in 1904 St.Petersburg Conservatory with Gold Medal on the field of French horn. He had already been elected to play French horn in the Imperial Court Orchestra, he also was occupied at the orchestra of the Mariinsky Opera Theatre and was employed as music teacher in the most elitary Corps of Pages. His first compositions are dated to 1901. The first recognised march composed by an Estonian author (“Sivershaus”) is written by Eduard Tamm in 1902. In 1920 he repatriated to Estonia. In 1923, he accepted the proposal to become the conductor of Võru Garrison Orchestra in South Estonia. In Võru, the activities of Tamm were not limited to the duties of the military conductor only. Eduard Tamm was the soul of the local music life. He conducted the sinfonietta orchestra of the “Kannel” Cultural Society, organised some smaller dancing orchestras, conducted the operetta performances in “Kannel” Cultural Society, acted as choir conductor and as music teacher. In his age (1920-40), E. Tamm was the most productive composer for wind orchestras in Estonia, total number of his works reaches over 50 items. Doubtlessly, his overtures (“Kalev and Linda”, “Come Back Home” and others) belong to the treasury of Estonian music as well as his fantasies, pot-pourries, waltzes, polkas, character pieces and so on but firsthand his numerous marches. “Estonian Ceremonial March” participate in contest for main State ceremonial march in 1922 but was not chosen one. Today this march is one of the most important music for Estonian State ceremonies.

Arvi Miido loodud „Lipumarss“ ja „Pidulik signaal“ kuuluvad kindlalt eesti tseremooniamuusika kullafondi. Ta on mitmete rivimarsside autor („Piirikaitsjate marss“, „Marss Glamour“, „Lainte harjal“, „ESTO 2000“ jt). Arvi Miido on tunnustatud orkestreerija. Ta on seadnud puhkpilliorkestrile hulganisti sümfoonilist ja kergema sisuga muusikat sh R.Tobias Avamäng „Julius Cesar“ ja „Walpurgi burlesk“, E.Kapp „Pidulik proloog“, V.Kapp „Intermezzo“ jt, sõduri-, tudengi- ja merelaulud, marsid ja levimuusika. Kokku üle 100 orkestriseade. Koos Piirivalve Orkestriga on ta salvestanud 7 heliplaati. Maj Arvi Miido (born January 31, 1956, Vändra) began his music studies first on piano, later on french horn in Vändra Music School. He is graduated from G.Ots Tallinn Music High School in the french horn class of R.Kasemägi (1980) and Estonian Music Academy in the french horn class of U.Uustalu and K.Kauksi, same time in the wind band conductor class of P.Raik. His professional musician career has started in Wind Orchestra „Helikon“ as french horn player, later as chief conductor of the Orchestra. In 1992, he was nominated the chief and chief conductor of the Orchestra of Estonian Border Guard. Arvi Miido has performed as guest conductor in Germany, Canada, France, Australia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Latvia and Russia. „Processional March for the Flag“ and „Formal Fanfare“ by Arvi Miido belongs to classics of Estonian States ceremonies. He composed several marches (Frontier Guard’s March, March Glamour, On the Ridge of the Waves, ESTO 2000 etc). He is noted arranger for wind orchestras as well in symphonic and light music area, including Overture „Julius Cesar“ and Walpurg’s Burlesque by R.Tobias, Festive Prologue by E.Kapp, Intermezzo by V.Kapp etc, soldiers, sailors and students songs, marches and popular music. 7 CD-s delivered by the Orchestra of Border Guard conducted by Arvi Miido contain marching, popular and symphonic music. LtCol dr Peeter Saan (born April 16, 1959, Võru) began his music studies first on accordion, later on clarinet and saxophone. He is graduated from G. Ots Tallinn Music High School in the clarinet and saxophone class of A. Ryabov (1983) and Estonian Music Academy in the clarinet class of R. Karin (1988). His career as a musician has lasted 16 years, first in Professional Wind Band „Tallinn“ and thereafter in the Orchestra of Estonian Defence Forces. In 1996, he was nominated the chief of the Orchestra of Estonian Defence Forces and the Chief Conductor of the Defence Forces. He continued his studies on conducting in master study, later doctoral study at Estonian Music Academy. In his scientific research, he has reverberated the historical development processes of Estonian Ceremony Music as well as history of Estonian military music. Peeter Saan has performed as guest conductor in Germany, Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Russia. Every year, his orchestra makes tens of concerts of both symphonic and more popular music. His particular subject of interest is older original works of Estonian composers. Many works of the former periods he has rearranged to fit the requirements of the contemporary orchestra. As an arranger, he has produced more than one hundred arrangements and transcriptions for symphonic band. 11 CD-s delivered by Orchestra of Estonian Defence Forces conducted by Peeter Saan contain variety from classical and ceremonial to popular music.
