NOTES :

1. For the purpose of the table an instantaneous water heater is deemed to be water heater of any loading

which heats water only while the tap is turned on and therefore uses electricity intermittently .

2. It is important to ensure that the distribution boards are of sufficient rating to take total load connected

to them without the application of any diversity .

3. After calculating the electrical load on the above basis, a load factor of 70 to 90 percent is to be

applied to arrive at the minimum capacity of substation.

GEN SET DERATING

Gen Set are to be derated based on altitude, temperature and humidity. Procedure for derating

of Gen Set is explained here with an example.

For 15 KVA load a Gen Set is to be installed at 3000 mtr altitude. Power factor is 0.8

Hence 15 KVA = 15 x 0.8 = 12 KW

HP required for 12 KW power = 12 = 20.76

0.746 x 0.775

(Taking Alternator efficiency of single phase 15 KVA alternator is 77.5%)

Altitude deration at 3000 mtr

Derating factor for 3000 mtr altitude (Refer table given below)

Df1 = (3000-150) x 3.5% = 33.25%

3000

Thus required engine HP x (1- .33) = 20.76

Engine HP = 20.76 = 20.76 = 30.98

(1- .33) .67

= 31.00 HP

Thus diesel engine of minimum 32 HP is required to develop 15 KVA power

NOTES :

1. The total overhead dimensions has been calculated on the basis of car height of 2.3 m.

2. In case of manually operated doors, clear entrance will be reduced by the amount of

projection of handle on the landing door .

3. All dimensions given above for lifts having centre opening power operated doors with

counterweight at rear, are recommended dimensions primarily for architects and building

planners . Any variations mutually agreed between the manufacture and the purchaser are

permitted . However, variation in :

(a) Car inside dimensions shall be within the maximum area limits specified in accordance with

accepted standards [8-5(4)] .

(b) Entrance width on higher side is permitted .

(c) Entrance width on lower side is permitted up to 100 mm subject to minimum of 700mm.

4. Dimensions of pit depth and overhead may differ in practice as per individual manufacture’s

design depending upon load, speed and drive. Recommended dimensions for pit depth, overhead

and machine-room for different lift speeds are given in Table 1A .However, the pit depth and

overhead shall be such as to confirm to the requirement of bottom clearance and top clearance in

accordance with the accepted standards[8-5(5)]

SPEED :— It is dependent upon the quantity of service required and the quality of service desired.

Therefore, no set formulae for indicating the speed can be given. However, the following

general recommendations are made:

HEAD LOSS DUE TO FRICTION IN PIPE

Friction loss in pipe has been worked out by modified Hazen Willium formula. As per the formula friction loss in pipe is directly proportional

to length of pipe but it is exponentially related to discharge and dia of pipe. Hence friction loss has been worked out for various discharge values and

different dia but for fixed length of pipe line. Users are requested to multiply the corresponding friction loss in pipe line by required length. Friction

loss given here is applicable to GI/CI/DI pipes
