Brief of HistoryBrief of History
In order to increase the competitive excellence of national products in global market and to guarantee the validity of output in measurement research in research centres, the development of infrastructure’s technical standardization is needed; which covers metrology, standardization, testing, and quality (MSTQ).
The infrastructure mentioned before is National Metrology Institute which duty is to assure the traceability of measurement in a country. In Indonesia, the responsibility is obliged to Puslit KIM-LIPI.
The Research Center for Calibration, Instrumentation and Metrology (Puslit KIM-LIPI) is a part of the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI). All the facilities belong to Puslit KIM-LIPI in Serpong are housed in an area of 22.000 m2 wide. Puslit KIM-LIPI has a core competence in metrology and instrumentation, which is advanced through research and becomes the basis of the services offered to the public.

Regional ComparisonRegional Comparison
KIM-LIPI Key Comparison APMP.M.P-K7 in range 10 MPa to 100 MPa of Hydraulic Gauge pressure. This comparison was carried out in the period of November 2002 to June 2004 and piloted by NMIJ-Japan. Two pressure monitor which had been use in this comparison were Digiquartz Paroscientific model 785 and RPM3 of DHI, Inc. as the transfer standard. :
Recently KIM-LIPI taking part on APMP DEC Interlaboratory Comparison exercise up to 100 MPa Hydraulic pressure. Followed by 12 NMI and piloted by SIRIM-Malaysia, the comparison scheduled carried out from 2008 to 2009, by using transfer standard HBM model P3M with range 100 MPa its still distributed to each participating NMI.

Had been prepare for expanded scope in pneumatic area and being propose to have assessment in the end of 2008
ResearchResearch
Research being prepared is determination of local gravitation, which is one of many parameter influence the measurement of mass and related quantity including pressure. This research base on the measurement of free falling body acceleration, using laser interferometer in the vacuum chamber. Obtaining accurate value and uncertainty of local gravitation highly expected in this research, it will increase the reliability of laboratory.
