In a year unlike any other, we have been humbled and blessed by the outpouring of love and generosity from the community. And while 2020 brought us challenges and hardships we never could have imagined, it also brought us a renewed sense of gratitude for the incredible community that surrounds us, including you.

This past year, our caregivers at The Mount demonstrated the utmost professionalism, tenacity,

and dedication — anchored in grace and love — while facing perhaps the most challenging time of their work and lives. They truly showed up as Essential Heroes on behalf of keeping our residents and patients safe, well and connected.

And, they couldn’t have done it without each of you — the Essential Community Members who joined us in this incredibly challenging effort. Even in the midst of your own struggles with the pandemic,

you still reached out and brought all of us closer. This support of family members, donors, Foundation Board members, Intergenerational Learning Center families, volunteers, and local community members helped in so many ways. From sewing masks, making face shields, funding equipment, serving as emergency corps volunteers, and dropping by with gifts of meals, cookies, fruit, and flowers — truly lifted everyone’s spirits.

The love that flowed from the outpouring of calls, video clips, cards, and letters to help our residents know that they were not forgotten — gave us immense hope. Hope that comes from knowing that love conquers fear, even in a pandemic.

And, your financial support made a tremendous difference this past year. You will see in this “Giving” newsletter, that through your generosity, the Foundation was able to fund the critical needs of our new COVID-19 reality and provided over $1 million to support the residents and programs at The Mount. Through the donation of iPads for video calls with loved ones,

gazebos for outdoor visits, to a mobile beauty salon, doorway happy hour, hallway bingo and even a dedicated internal television channel for residents to enjoy live streaming of Mass and other religious and entertainment programming. Through your help, we were able to provide these new ways to show residents that they are loved and not alone, especially while closed to visitors for most of the year. Gratefully, more than 75% of funds went to Resident Charitable Support — which remains at the heart of our mission to provide for those who have exhausted all financial resources.

While this past year has been a challenging time for all — we made the necessary sacrifices, adapted continuously, and did our very best to keep the residents and patients of The Mount as safe and well as possible. Our caregivers stepped up not only to the extra hours and work involved in infection prevention protocols, they also stepped in with full hearts as surrogate family while loved ones could not be on-site to visit. The resident birthday parties, virtual celebrations, and the tender help through times of loss were profound and meaningful for all.

As in each of our families, we are all perhaps forever changed.

We have come together more united than ever and have faced these challenges to help those who need us.

Through the love, support, and generosity of The Mount’s Essential Community and through the devotion of our caregivers, one thing remains steadfast — the Mount’s residents have a safe, vibrant, and loving place to live. On behalf of our residents, patients, and caregivers — thank you for your generosity to The Mount and the Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation.
