We also learned that there are six ‘bones’ hidden in an introductory paragraph.
Can you find them in the next slides?

Bones of an Introduction
The ‘bones’ of an
introduction!
Wait! What does that paragraph look like?
Bones of an Introduction
I’m glad you asked!
Here’s an example!
YAY!
A Bony Intro: An Example
We spend approximately 70% of our time in school, but some people think we need more time in school.
However, lengthening more hours for school days has some disadvantages students and teachers.
First, students will lack private time if the school day is made longer.
Second, students can study by themselves at home, so they don’t need a longer school day.
Last, teachers will have to work longer—something that might make their work worse.
Despite these reasons, some still want to make the school day longer; I’ll explain why that’s a bad idea.

An Intro’s Muscle
I’m glad you asked! A bony skeleton is
important to hold an essay together, but
an essay needs more than just bones: it needs muscle too!
An Intro’s Muscle
Here are some ideas to fill out your
introduction!
A quick, relevant:
An Intro’s Muscle
Let’s add some muscle to our bony introduction. Muscle
shown in red.
An Intro’s Muscle
We spend approximately 70% of our time in school, but some people think we need more time in school. Mission Hills High School has already added 1.5 hours to its school day. However, lengthening more hours for school days has some disadvantages students and teachers. First, students will lack private time if the school day is made longer. Second, students can study by themselves at home, so they don’t need a longer school day. Last, teachers will have to work longer—something that might make their work worse. At my high school, Valley Center High School, teachers and students protested longer school days and won. Protests will continue as long as this idea is alive. Despite all the reasons against it, some still want to make the school day longer; I’ll explain why that’s a bad idea.

Now, didn’t that intro
seem more beefy?
But what comes after the
