Athens Endoscopy Hands-On Course with live demonstrations of advanced endoscopic techniques from Paediatric Endoscopy Units from Europe and US
Endoscopy is an essential part of the training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition (PGH&N) and the required skills are well described in the recently published by ESPGHAN Syllabus of the subspecialty training in Europe.
Pediatric gastroenterology successful practice is only possible if experienced endoscopists and specializing pediatricians exchange and combine skills and knowledge. In this context, ESPGHAN endeavors to establish a Post Graduate Course on advances in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. The course will take place in Athens in collaboration with ELPEN Experimental Research Center (ELPEN ERC). The course will cover endoscopic diagnostic techniques such as ERCP, water colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, narrow banding imaging, chromoendoscopy and endoscopic full thickness rectal biopsy and will provide hands-on training in therapeutic techniques such as hemostasis of bleeding varices (banding, injections), bleeding ulcers (APC, clips), over-the-scope clip placement, esophageal dilatation, esophageal dynamic stent placement, peroral endoscopic myotomy, endoscopic injections of Botulinum toxin, one step gastrostomy button and J-PEG placement, foreign body removal, endoscopic bariatric therapies and others.
In order to achieve maximum simulation and interaction, the participants will be divided in small groups and will perform supervised hands-on training on biological models and on mannequins. In addition, the course will provide live demonstrations of advanced endoscopic techniques from the Endoscopy Suits of the Children’s hospitals of Boston, Houston and Messina. All of the participants will be asked to complete a MCQ test at the end of the course and an evaluation form on the course. The course will be granted CME credits by EACCME.
