I have the great pleasure, on behalf of the local council in Rødovre Municipality, to give the participants in the 25th European Senior Bowling Championships 2016, a warm welcome to Rødovre. I am really happy that ESBC's 25th anniversary event in 2016 will take place here in Rødovre. We are pleased to welcome bowling players from near and far. Rødovre City Hall and the surrounding buildings, library and the cultural center - Viften, was designed by the world famous architect Arne Jacobsen in 1954-1956. Rødovre is 12.18 km2, and home to 37,750 residents. I hope there, besides the championships, will be time to take a look at Rødovre. There are Vestvolden with the unique nature - which often is used in everyday life for running, cycling, inline skating and dog walking etc. It is connected to the other "super bike paths" in the Copenhagen area - where cyclists can travel quickly and safely to their destination. We have Rødovre Centrum, Denmark's oldest shopping center, which on several occasions has won the annual award as the best shopping center. Take a walk and look at the center - in addition to the many interesting shops, there is fine art and flower design to experience. In Rødovre you will also find - Heerup Museum, with a fine and exciting exhibition of the artist Henry Heerup. His artwork includes paintings, lithographs, stone sculptures, linocuts, drawings and the so-called "garbage models", which was composed of old scrap and junk. I would like to once again welcome you to Rødovre. I hope all of you will have some good days and a pleasant stay and wish all the participants and organizers good luck with the competitions in the 25th European Senior Bowling Championships. Welcome to the 25th European Senior Bowlers Championships 2016 in Copenhagen, Denmark Dear bowling friends, As president I would like to write some words about the 25th European Senior Bowlers Championships in Copenhagen. It will be the third time we visit Denmark. The first time in Arhus and the second time in Copenhagen. For the third time we go again to the wonderful city of Copenhagen It is a most beautiful town with an historic inner city, royal palaces, lots of shops, restaurants and bars. So for anyone there are places to visit and to enjoy when you are not bowling. The organizing committee has already much experience in organizing the E.C. 50+. But with many players attending it will be a challenge to organize the 25th E.C. to perfection. The ESBC European Championships will reach the 25th birthday in Copenhagen. Only 3 players have visited every championships (as I write this in April 2014), so the ESBC presidium hopes to get the spotlight on those players next year. You can choose between hotels with 3 or 4 stars and they have excellent food and drinks. You can spend all evenings and days off in Copenhagen centre and in the great country side. You will have a great time. In Copenhagen we have enough bowling lanes to host 1100 players if needed. So I hope this will be the biggest E.C. in Denmark I want to thank the organizing committee for their hard work and many hours they spend to organize these championships. But it’s only the beginning. There is lots of work to do, but during the championships everything will be fine and you will enjoy wonderful championships. The ESBC presidium is sure the organizing committee will do his utmost to fulfil your championships to an excellent standard. The ESBC presidium hopes you will visit the 25th European Senior Bowlers Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark 2016 and we will all meet again in the bowling centres, with beautiful weather, with good food and drinks and a wonderful atmosphere!! Welcome from the Danish Bowling Federation It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 25th European Seniors Championships in Copenhagen. The Danish Bowling Federation is delighted to have ESBC Denmark host the Championships in cooperation with four bowling centers around the city of Copenhagen. We look forward to meeting the athletes and their companions from all over Europe. Sadly! I am too young to participate in the European Seniors Championships, but I am old enough to remember the first Championships in 1992. I am pleased that ESBC now celebrate the anniversary in Copenhagen with the 25th European Seniors Championships in 2016. It is an obvious opportunity to use the event in Copenhagen to consider a closer and more formalized cooperation with ESBC Denmark. That would be an ideal gift for the bowling sport - in advance - before the federation's 50th anniversary in 2017. “Senior bowlers do not compete against each other but with each other” Bowling is a lifetime sport. Depending on ambitions, we compete against each other or with each other. Senior athletes participating in these Championships will meet each other and create friendships across all countries in Europe. I am sure that all athletes at the 25th European Seniors Championships will create new friendships and through fair play show the world that bowling is a true, clean, honest and challenging sport that deserve to be part of the Olympic Programme. I hope that we all, athletes and officials, will carry the Olympic spirit in our hearts. Together, let us make the 25th European Seniors Championships in Copenhagen the best Championships of all time. Something we will remember for a very long time. Dear friends, For the 2nd time I have the pleasure and honour to welcome you to Copenhagen to the Championships in bowling for Seniors. At the first Championships held in 1992, at La Rochelle, France. 164 participants, 107 men and 57 women from 11 countries took part. Now 25 years later some Championships have had more than 1000 participants. I wonder if Bernard Mora, who is the founder of these Championships, in his dreams had imagined such a success. What is the reason for this increase in the number of participants you might ask. I sincerely believe that apart from our pleasure for bowling it is friendship which over the years has occurred between many players of the various participating countries. “Senior bowlers do not play against each other but with each other” The friendly and relaxed atmosphere during the Championships is in my opinion an important foundation that we must not put at risk by posing difficulties for the participation of the players. The Organising Committee and all other assistants have done their very best preparing the Championships, and we will do our utmost in the days to come to make these Championships as successful as possible. It is our hope that you all will have some nice days in Copenhagen, you will meet old friends and make new friendships, and you also will find time to go sightseeing to explore the beautiful spots in and around Wonderful Copenhagen.
