The hafnium-silver bond is more effective thanhafnium-copper in standard electrodes. Thisallows the SilverLine electrode to achieve a33% deeper pit depth.
The robust copper-silver interface, combinedwith the hafnium-silver bond deliver consistentperformance and lower the overallcost of cutting.
SilverLine electrodes on average last twice as long as standard electrodes.

Fully-used electrodeThis SilverLine electrode has provided full use.The pit depth is .120" (3.0 mm). The operatorincreased the arc voltage in 5-volt increments,up to 20 volts from the first cuts made with thiselectrode to the last. This maintains a constantdistance between the torch and the work-piecethrough the life of the electrode.
Partially-used electrodeThis SilverLine electrode is only partially consumed. The pit in the center of the part measures .090"(2.3 mm). Electrodes are often removed prematurelydue to cut quality deterioration related to nozzlefailure. Additional life can be achieved by replacingthe nozzle and leaving the electrode in place.
Achieve maximum consumable life
Use electrode to full life: A fully used SilverLineelectrode will have a pit depth of .120" (3.0 mm). This is deeper than the recommended pit depth forstandard parts of .090" (2.3 mm).
Properly tighten the nozzle retaining cap: Makesure the nozzle retainer is sealed tightly against thenozzle to prevent leaking.
Purge torch: After each parts change, purge thetorch for at least 30 seconds to remove residualmoisture.
Leak check: After purging the torch, make sureall o-ring seals are tight and there are no torchcoolant leaks.
Adjust plasma gas pressure: Plasma gas flowrate is critical. High flow will cause rapid electrodewear and hard starting. Low flow will causeuncontrolled arcing.

.090" (2.3 mm) .120" (3.0 mm)
Pierce at correct height: Refer to the cut chart foroptimum pierce (initial) height. Piercing too low causesmolten metal (spatter) to hit the shield and nozzle – themost common cause of premature nozzle failure.Piercing too high can cause misfires.
Adjust arc voltage: As the consumables wear, thetorch will get closer to the plate. To maintain optimumcutting height, increase arc voltage in 5-volt increments,up to 20 volts higher than the initial setting.
Avoid arc stretching: This can occur during ripcutting off the plate or when the lead out is improperlyprogrammed. This shortens consumable life.
Clean the nozzle and heat shield: Periodicallyclean the nozzle and shield to remove spatter. This willprevent double arcing which shortens consumable life.

The hafnium element in the electrode will wear to approximately twice the depth of the standard copper electrode. In most applications this will increof nozzles and electrodes. The arc voltage may need to be increased by 5-10 volts throughout the electrode life to maintain proper cut height. This iexpectations using recommended practices and well-maintained systems. Improper operating parameters or operation of equipment, or the presencplasma gas can dramatically affect the life of these products. Troubleshooting Tips for PT-19XLS SilverLine® Oxygen
If you do not achieve superior results with SilverLine® Technology – review your consumable parts against the trouble-shooting chart below or call Centricut’s Technical Support for assistance 8 AM to 5 PM EST at 1-800-752-7623.
Probable Cause: Solution:
½-used electrode
Low gas or no gas (Nozzle snuffing)
Moisture in the plasma gas will dramatically reduce Silverline® electrode life. Moisture creates pits and carbon buildup on the surface of the electrode. Worn, dry, cut, or cracked o-ring seals may be the cause. This electrode is only ½ used. The pit in the center of the part is approximately .060”. It may burn another 100-200 starts before failure. Electrodes may be removed prematurely due to nozzle failure or low torch height. This electrode failed catastrophically due to low gas flow or no gas flow during arc initiation. This can happen when the nozzle “snuffs” against the plate during the pierce, or if the pre-flow gas is insufficient.
Inspect o-rings seals in electrode holder, insulator body, torch body, etc. Lubricate, clean, or replace, o-rings as necessary. Replace electrode holder if necessary. The electrode should burn to approximately 0.120” before cut quality deterioration or failure. You may need to increase arc voltage by 5-10 volts to maintain proper stand off. Some operators use 2 nozzles to get full life from the electrode. Check for proper operation of torch height control. Torch must clear the plate and pierce at 2X cut height. If material is warped, make sure the torch clears the plate before firing. Make sure pre-flow pressure is 25-28 psi.
The parts shown are for the PT-15XL. The PT-19XLS will exhibit the same failure mode

Achieve maximum consumable lifeA fully used SilverLine electrode will have a pitdepth of .130" (3.3 mm). This is deeper than therec ommended pit depth for standard parts of .090"(2.3 mm).
With proper use, the CoolFlow nozzle will last 1:1with the SilverLine electrode.
Purge torch: After each parts change purge the torchfor at least 30 seconds to remove residual moisture.Leak check: After purging the torch make sure allo-ring seals are working as designed.Adjust gas flow: Plasma gas flow rate is critical.High flow will cause rapid electrode wear and hardstarting. Low flow will cause uncontrolled arcing.(See parameters on back.)Adjust arc voltage: As the consumables wear, thetorch will get closer to the plate. To maintain optimumcutting height, increase arc voltage in 2-volt increments,up to 20 volts higher than the initial setting.
Avoid running off work: This occurs when the arc stretches during rip cutting off the plate or when the arcchases a part as it falls. This shortens consumable life. Properly tighten the nozzle retaining cap: Makesure the nozzle retainer is sealed tightly against thenozzle to prevent leaking.Pierce at correct height: Refer to the cut chart onthe back for optimum pierce height. Piercing too lowcauses molten metal (spatter) to hit the shield andnozzle – the most common cause of prematurenozzle failure. Piercing too high can cause misfires. Adjust shield gas flow: Refer to the cut chart onthe back for optimum shield gas flow. Having thecorrect start shield flow provides protection to thenozzle and shield during the pilot process. Clean the nozzle and shield: Periodically cleanthe nozzle and shield to remove spatter. This willprevent double arcing.
