Magazine Evaluation

In what ways does your media product; use, develop and challenge forms & conventions of real media products?

USE

DEVELOP

CHALLENGE

I took the key elements from any popular music magazines such as NME, Kerrang, etc. and incorporated them into the main structure of my magazine.

I chose to develop my contents page further than some existing magazines, and as well as just including the traditional page numbers and pictures, I also added in an extra summary of the contents, to make it more easy and accessible for the reader.

On most music magazines you find, there are usually quite a few bands featured on the cover. However I chose just to include pictures of the 2 main bands on the double page spread. This is a risk, but I then relied on the banner at the bottom of the page to attract more readers.

How did you attract & address your audience?

Firstly to attract the magazine audience, I used big pictures on the front cover, and a bold colour scheme.

Then I feel that I address the audience in a formal but friendly way.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The main thing I learnt was how you are able to use different techniques and computer programs in conjunction with each other, to create effect.

An example of this…

Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I have learnt to look at similar music magazines, such as NME magazine to give me ideas on how to lay out my magazine, as I did not do this for the prelim. This allows me to take elements of other layouts, but also adapt it to

my own preferences.
