Spring is here and the green is starting to show. The range is looking great. By the time you read this letter, you will have received a ballot regarding a new storage building being proposed. The proposed building will be utilized for storage of range and shoot chairman’s equipment. The proposed building will be approximately 40’ x 125’, metal structure with a drive thru center for loading and unloading. The building will also include permanent restrooms on the North end of the structure. Any project in excess of $50,000 must be voted on by the general membership. The money for this structure will come from the Range Enhancement Fund. In addition a proposed well will be dug rendering a greater supply of water for range use. It is important that you the members vote on whether you want this building or not. We encourage each and every one of you to VOTE. This is your association! Not only will this greatly enhance the range appearance, but will provide more effective operations of the range and shooting venues. On to another subject and that’s regarding the dues increases. I have received both pro and con regarding the dues, mostly pro. As I mentioned last month, when you break it down to a monthly increase, it’s minimal. The cost of range operation has increased significantly. But, let’s look at it from a different point of view. Look around the range and see the wonderful changes that have happened in the recent years. When you see other facilities and what we have here, we can be very proud of our range and its amenities. You the members, and the support you give the association, make this a first class range. Just visit other ranges and you will certainly agree how fortunate we really are. Don’t forget the Annual BBQ coming up on May 17th. The Smokehouse Grill will be catering the event this year. The raffle table will be great as it is every year. This event will be enjoyable as always. BBQ tickets purchased before May 1st will be $15.00 per person. Tickets purchased on May 1st or later will be the full $20.00. Children 12 years old and younger will be a flat $10.00. Tickets may be purchased from any BOD and Lon Fowler or Dave Ransberger. You may mail in a check made out to “EFGA.” The ticket will then be mailed to you. Support our association and enjoy this great event. Tom DeLisle resigned as a BOD and Trap Chairman. Bob Schoenfield will be the new Trap Chairman. Please address any Trap question to Bob. Ray Osgood was appointed as the new BOD member. Thank you Tom, for your service and good luck in the future. Last item is, “annual renewals will be included in the May and June bulletin.” Please pay close attention to the renewal and mail them in a timely manner. Be sure to include a signed and dated liability agreement form, and, a copy of your NRA card or Magazine label. Renewals postmarked after 31 July 2009, may be subject to a late fee. Range Officers and Members, The great news is 21 RO’s have signed up for the March 21st RSO class. We have room for 25 and I expect a full

class. CRSO Frank Alessio is the master teacher, the professor extraordinaire. This class is well worth your time and strengthens our safety skills and increases accountability. An educated, experienced, trained RSO is an added value for all members and guests.

My wife Terry and I attended CRSO Jack Bryson’s Basic Handgun class last month. I recommend this class to all shooters from the novice to the experienced. There is classroom discussion as well as on the range instruction and shooting. Jack is another CRSO that gives his time to our association to educate our members and guests. Sign up for his next class and bring your wife, and kids. He is always in need of more coaches. A review is a good prac-tice to follow from time to time. You never know enough when it comes to safety and shooting skills.

How about those interested in traditional Archery? Tom Arendell is teaching this class. He tells me he can teach a lefty like me! I am going to give him that opportunity, it could be ugly. Give Tom a call at 760-743-4757 and get the specifics.

We offer many shooting opportunities for all our members to learn new skills. Take some time to review this information on the page, Shoot Chairs. The names and telephone numbers of all the shoot chairs are listed in the bulletin. Call them with your questions so you will be comfortable when you attend their shoot for the first time. Get involved and have some fun meeting other members. The next time you are at the range I’m sure you will notice all the improvements that have taken place in the past year. The new pistol range is outstanding as well as the new 150 yard rifle range. Trap has a new machine for doubles on trap house number (3). We have approximately 65 RSO’s and Shoot Chairs to assist all our members and guests and that number is growing. How about the over-night primitive camp area built by the Eagle Scouts and our volunteers. Before you know it we will have bathrooms with running water. WOW! How sweet it is. It’s your association; please take advantage of our amenities and op-portunities to grow your shooting experience. If you have a question about anything, especially becoming a Range Officer please give me a call 858-679-1918.

We have made some changes that once again make it possible for monthly membership acceptance for newly sponsored members. All questions pertaining to the new membership process should be routed to Dave Premetz, Association clerk, at 760-489-1082 or email at [email protected].

The area directly behind the 150 rifle range will soon open for loading and unloading. We needed to bring in some more DG and grade for drainage (Thanks, Denny Martin). So, drive in and unload and move out so the next guy can do the same. Signs will be posted to help everyone understand the new plan of action. It goes without saying; please do not block the entrance/exit.

Shot gun patterning must be done on the shotgun range. No shouldered guns are permitted on the pistol range. John Matson constructed a large frame with a brace support to keep it upright. It is located on the #1 Trap range. See an RSO if you can’t find the frame and always check with the RSO before you start shooting on the Trap Range. As a reminder: Know your target and what is beyond -- Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

The wild flowers and California Poppies will soon be blooming on the berms thanks to Ray Bucholz. Ray has also planted a rose garden next to the trap Ramada in honor of all our Moms who have passed. Ray (the flower child), you’re a good man with a huge heart. Range Officer of the Month is Walt Nicoll.

Keep your powder dry and a smile on your face and embrace life. It’s a wonderful way to live.Bud [email protected]
