1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? 2. How my media products use forms and conventions. My magazine cover uses the forms of a generic magazine by having a logo which is placed at the top left hand corner of the page to draw attention to the reader. The logo/masthead is placed there because in many countries it is the norm to read from the top of the page from left to right and I felt it was a familiar place to put it. It is also on a large scale compare to the rest of the writing of the page so it stands out and is easy to recognise from a far distance. 3. How my media products use forms and conventions.Ive also used cover lines to add extra information to the front cover of the magazine, in my case the extra features inside the magazine are bands. Typically, cover lines are placed around the main image so they arent hiding anything out of sight and Ive decided to stick to this convention because I feel it is very important to have a full view of the image on display. Also, I feel that it keeps the layout nice and tidy and easy to look at. 4. How my media products use forms and conventions.Another form Ive used is a Title, which is of my cover star Jocelyn Mathers. Typically titles are placed near the middle or to the bottoms of the page, which Ive stuck to the idea. However, rather than being in the centre of the page Ive decided to shift the title more the the bottom right hand corner of the page to give it a sort of edgy feel. Usually along side a title there would be a selling line and Ive decided not to use it because I felt it was unnecessary and it would of made the page look rather cramped. 5. How my media products use forms and conventions.Generically, strap lines are used on many magazine covers and Ive decided to use them at the top and bottom of my magazine cover to make my product to look more authentic looking. Ive used the strap lines to add more interest to the magazine cover. By adding extra bands in a strap line at the bottom of the page it adds more interest for the the type of people who dont necessarily like/know the bands featured in this weeks magazine and may be more likely to purchase the issue just to see the less advertised bands on the front cover. 6. How my media products use forms and conventions.Every magazine has a visible barcode, if not on the front of the magazine it would be on the back. It also includes a price about it and a the date of the issue. Ive decided to place a barcode on my product to make it more genuine. Ive placed it at the bottom of the page with the price and date of the issue included above it. Ive placed it at the bottom right hand corner of the page because I feel it is the most reasonable place for it to be placed. If it were placed anywhere else I would feel it was out of place. 7. How my media products use forms and conventions. The final form of my magazine cover is the background image. It is the most important part of the entire front cover, it generally takes over the entire page and the layout is placed on top to give the overall finished product. Ive decided to stick to the convention of having a background image because I feel it is the most important part of the front cover, without it there would be no interest to the page and having a main cover star would be pointless. 8. How my media products use forms and conventions.Overall I feel that Ive used many of the forms and conventions of an average magazine from what Ive show and Ive developed many of my ideas for my alternative yet modern magazine from magazines such as Q magazine and NME. Q magazine is ver modern and elegant which is where I seem to get my layout and typography from however NME seems to have the alternative feel I wanted with the imagery and the language used. I dont feel my magazine has challenged many of the forms and conventions besides from the fact I havent used any splashes to give more character to the cover. 9. How my media products use forms and conventions.Typically a contents page will include the title of the page and the date and it usually placed at the top of the page either to the left or right of the page. I decided to use this element on my contents page because I felt it was very useful to have distinction between pages. I decided to stick to the convetion of having it near the top of the page because thats generically where people start reading from and work their way down the page. 10. How my media products use forms and conventions. Many contents pages use a variety of images within the page to show other artists within the issue. Although they dont have a particular place as to where they have to be placed on the page I based my contents page off a dance magazine to give me a rough idea of the convention to that specific magazine so I had something to go on. Ive placed the images on one side and they text on the other to give it an equal balance, which also makes it look more organised. 11. How my media products use forms and conventions.Another form of a contents page is lists which are in chronological order down or across the page. Ive decided to use the lists to indicate what is one each page and to allow easy access to each page without having any trouble finding a specific article. Ive decided to place the list at the left hand side of the page going downwards because as Ive said before it is a common thing for people to start from one side of the page and read across to the other side. 12. How my media products use forms and conventions. Generally, a contents page will use a title for the artist or band and a little description at the bottom to give a little hint of what the article may be about without giving away too much. The title is usually the first thing you see because it slightly larger/ more vibrant than the small precise description. You typically find these scattered around the page OR in one particular area like the left hand side of the page, which as you can see Ive done. I decided to keep in in order by keeping the title and description in one area to allow quick scanning if the reader wanted to find something quickly. Ive also added sections in which the band or artist is place in to make it more convenient to the reader. 13. How my media products use forms and conventions. When analysing the dance magazine in which I mimiced for my contents page, I realised that it not only had page numbers listed down the side but it also page numbers presented on the images of other dance artists. I decided to use this form on my magazine placing it at the top of the left and right hand corner of the page. I felt this added more to the images rather than just leaving them plain. Furthermore, the dance magazine I had analysed for the layout didnt show any quotes, however I decided to add my own which I felt added more authenticity. You could say by adding quotes to the images it did challenge conventions because the magazines I had analysed like Kerrang! And Q magazine didnt seem to show quotes on the images shown on the contents pages. 14. How my media products use forms and conventions. With the magazines I analysed I discovered they had placed their logo somewhere along the top of the contents page. I thought this form was a one to use because it added brading to the pages. Although the logo is usually placed near the left hand side of the page I decided to place it to the left, because I felt it balance out the top half of the page nicely when along side the title and the date of the page, which is also at the top of the page.
