Dear Parents,

What a wonderful start to the school year! I am proud to call myself an Erickson Eagle and I

hope that you feel the same way. One of the core values of the Bloomingdale School District is

to ensure every child learns. Erickson Elementary School believes in educating the whole child

and works diligently to provide individualized instruction to all students. In order to

differentiate instruction, teachers use various assessments to determine a “starting point” for

instruction. One of the assessments that the school utilizes to assess student understanding is

the MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress). All students at Erickson will take part in the

MAP Assessment during the month of September. The MAP is administered three times a year

(Fall/Winter/Spring) and results are used to differentiate instruction in the classroom.

The MAP is a computerized assessment for math and reading. Each test takes approximately

45-60 minutes to complete. MAP scores will be shared with parents in November. The type of

questions and difficulty of the questions on the MAP changes based on how well students

perform throughout the assessment. If a student answers a question correctly, he or she will be

given a more challenging question. If a student answers a question incorrectly, he or she will be

exposed to an easier question.

Click on the pictures below to learn more about the MAP Assessment:

Sincerely,

Patrick Haugens

“Go Orange Day” is September 4th! During the month of September it is National Hunger Awareness

Month with the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Pennies collected will be donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank

and Bloomingdale Township Food Pantry.

Each house pillar will bring in as many pennies as they can for their jar for positive contributions.

Silver coins will be counted as negative contributions. (HINT: a good strategy is to put the silver coins in opposing house pillar jars.)

Collections will begin September 2nd and will last until September 26th At the end of the month, pennies will be counted and silver coins subtracted. The house pillar with the most positive contributions WINS!!

The winning house will earn ice cream at lunch!!
