tectonic precedent The Cincinnati Public Library serves as a foundation for this study of mass, plane, and frame. The 2D representation of tectonic characteristics was then translated into 3D diagrams.

tectonic exploration Building on the tectonic precedent study, this exploration uses the theory of tectonics as a driver for an elementary school in an existing urban context. The concept underneath the design stems from a radial plan, allowing satellite spaces to extend from a centrally located office space serving as an organizational hub as well as a symbol of authority. Each space is accessed by a series of arms extending in and around the masses.

ludlow literary center The literary center sits on historic Ludlow Avenue serving as a central hub of sorts, connecting the Clifton to its community. The north pier holds the social cafe setting and the south a private study space. The building above literally bridges the gap between these two atmospherically opposite spaces. An outdoor courtyard space below the bridge allows for interaction between community members, maintaining an open path through the site.

fort ancient museum On the archeological site of Fort Ancient, an on-site museum was proposed to inform the public about its past. In an effort to pay homage to the mounds created here centuries ago, the museum nestles itself against one on the south end, creating monumental views out to the mounds from the interior. They serve as a natural means of separation between the public space of the museum and the secluded trails below leading into the river.

As one approaches the site from the north, the building drops into its surroundings going almost unnoticed. Coming around the east side into the entrance, the ground plane is peeled back and held on a series of columns lining the exterior pathway.

on the boards: senior center Working within the context of Clifton, the senior center aims to be the social core of the elderly community, connecting citizens through entertainment, education, and social interaction in collaboration with several local businesses and institutions. This project is still in the design phase.
