What we set out to achieve
Lack of recent systematic evidence on profile of angels, their
investing activities and impact on performance of businesses
in which they invest.
We fill this gap by providing new findings from the largest
survey of business angels in the UK.
Strong indications of growth (current portfolio)
Women less likely
than men to report
‘no real growth’
Younger angels more
likely to expect higher
growth
Strong expectations of significant returns
with the highest expected
returns are gaming,
security, films, mobile &
consumer electronics
SECTORS
Significant social impact investments by angels
1 in 4 angels have invested in a deal with social impact
Conclusions
UK business angel market is changing more diverse population
of active angel investors in operation than ever
…. impacting type of investments they make, who they invest
with and where deals are located.
Government important role in this changing profile of business
angels through tax schemes to encourage even more angel
activity.
Development of digital platforms has made it easier for
individuals to engage in the investment process.
