There are a lot of things for us to be proud of in this school and community, but I believe the culture of acceptance here is the foundation of that pride. We have the benefit of our school population increasing and as a result with have added a 60% teaching position for the fall. I'd like to welcome Mrs. Ashley Braun to our teaching staff. She will be teaching middle years and in combination with Ms Toner, will be our grade 7 homeroom teachers. The teaching staff and I have spent a lot of time brainstorming how we can better educate all students in Herbert School. We have made some changes to grade configurations that we feel will be beneficial in the classroom. See our roster in this newsletter for grade configurations. Students and parents will be informed of what class they will be in on report card day. There will be two changes to school policy next year: 1. Cell phones will not be permitted in any classroom. Herbert School is fortunate enough to have the amount of technology that more than supports student learning and 21st Century skills. Any educational purpose that a cell phone has, can be done on a Chromebook. Cell phones are a constant distraction for some making them an issue in the classroom for all. If you need to get a hold of your child during the school day, contact the school office (306) 784-2454. 2. New 3 day out of school suspension protocol: If a student has climbed to Step 6 on the minor discipline ladder or Step 4 on the major discipline ladder it means they have served a 3 day suspension. It also means that a lot of time, effort, supporting and teaching has been done to attempt to curb the behaviours that are being committed. Therefore, if any Herbert student serves a 3 day out of school suspension they will have lost their privilege of representing Herbert School outside of the building. This includes all extra curricular activities (sports teams, field trips, or any other out of school excursion.) Sincerely Mr. Chad Striker Principal

Principal’s Message
I want to thank the staff, students and community for making my first year in Herbert one where I felt
welcomed, appreciated and respected. There are a lot of things for us to be proud of in this school and
community, but I believe the culture of acceptance here is the foundation of that pride.
We have the benefit of our school population increasing and as a result with have added a 60% teaching
position for the fall. I'd like to welcome Mrs. Ashley Braun to our teaching staff. She will be teaching
middle years and in combination with Ms Toner, will be our grade 7 homeroom teachers.
The teaching staff and I have spent a lot of time brainstorming how we can better educate all students in
Herbert School. We have made some changes to grade configurations that we feel will be beneficial in
the classroom. See our roster in this newsletter for grade configurations. Students and parents will be
informed of what class they will be in on report card day.
There will be two changes to school policy next year:
1. Cell phones will not be permitted in any classroom. Herbert School is fortunate enough to have
the amount of technology that more than supports student learning and 21st Century skills. Any
educational purpose that a cell phone has, can be done on a Chromebook. Cell phones are a
constant distraction for some making them an issue in the classroom for all. If you need to get a
hold of your child during the school day, contact the school office (306) 784-2454.
2. New 3 day out of school suspension protocol: If a student has climbed to Step 6 on the minor
discipline ladder or Step 4 on the major discipline ladder it means they have served a 3 day
suspension. It also means that a lot of time, effort, supporting and teaching has been done to
attempt to curb the behaviours that are being committed. Therefore, if any Herbert student serves
