ERASMUS MUNDUS LOT 13 PROJECT
WHAT IS EUPHRATES?
EUPHRATES is an Erasmus Mundus project aiming at:
Developing further collaboration among the European Union and Indian
Institutions for sending and hosting mobility of talented students and
staff.
Enhancing capacity, transparency and employability as well as skills and
qualification of institutions and individuals.
The EUPHRATES project promotes mobility of students and staff (to India) in
a collaborative framework which includes the following instutions in Europe
(University of Porto, University of Perpignan, TEI of Patras, Warsaw University
of Life Sciences, Freie Universität Berlin, University of Maribor, Vilnius
University, University College Dublin, University of Santiago de Compostela).
Brief description
The project EUPHRATES, coordinated by the University of Santiago de Compostela is one of the proposals approved by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency for the Lot 13, in July 2013.

* Mobilities addressed to beneficiaries and citizens promotes flows of students and staff from India towards the European Union.

Beneficiaries:
Candidates belonging to one of the following target groups can be selected
for an EMUNDUS EUPHRATES grant:
Target Group 1 (TG1): Students and Academic Staff registered in one of the partner universities from India belonging to the consortium. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institution;
Target Group 2 (TG2): Students need either to be registered in a HEI from India (not included in the partnership) to have obtained a university degree or equivalent from a HEI;

Beneficiaries:
Target Group 3 (TG3): Nationals from India in a particularly vulnerable
situation due to social and political reasons.
To be eligible they must have not resided nor carried out their main activity
(study, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years
in one of the European countries.
**(This rule does not apply to Target Group III candidates nor staff in general)

Beneficiaries:
Beneficiaries of Target Group 3 can be in one of the following
situations:
With a refugee or asylum status.
Being object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination.
Belonging to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons)

Academic Recognition:
Participating in EUPHRATES ensures the mutual recognition of all credits
performed in partner institutions within the consortium.

ROLE OF COORDINATOR (USC)
Definition of main strategy, agenda and task forces;
Communication with partners, meetings and reporting;
Preparation of the partnership agreement;
Creation and maintenance of the website,
Deployment of an online database system for mobility applications.;
Define an evaluation plan searching for a maximum involvement and
regular interaction between students and staff;
Preparation of the call for applications;
ROLE OF COORDINATOR (USC)
Definition of selection process;
Coordination of the support and assistance to the applicants;
Coordination with the partners for the organisation of the mobility
flows;
Providing beneficiaries with health insurance and travel tickets;
Financial management and budget follow up (transfer of money to
partners and to grantees);
Preparation of the project management meetings and collection of
documents for evaluation reports;
Preparation of the progress and final reports to the EACEA.
ROLE OF JOINT COORDINATOR (BAMU)
Enable a better efficiency, feasibility
and sustainability of the partnership
at administrative-management levels
OBJECTIVE

ROLE OF JOINT COORDINATOR
GENERAL TASKS:
BAMU will be jointly responsible with the USC for active day to day
coordination and management of the partnership.
Active coordination with other Partners in India in order to gather extra
specific information on:
Measures to attract the appropriate number and the correct
profile of students/staff
Mechanisms to improve quality assurance and mutual
recognition of studies between participant institutions.
ROLE OF JOINT COORDINATOR
AT COMMUNICATION/DISSEMINATION LEVEL:
Leading the consortium policy on awareness raising and dissemination in
order to ensure extensive project website and application tool if needed.
Assuming an active role in disseminating the project among Higher
Education Institutions in India by using their proper communication
channels: webpage, press releases, and education networks.
Implementing a specific dissemination task addressed to social and NGO
associations which can serve as channel to reach vulnerable groups (TG3
candidates).
ROLE OF JOINT COORDINATOR
AT IMPLEMENTATION LEVEL:
Selection of candidates: due to its knowledge of vulnerable groups in the geographical area, Dr. BAMU will coordinate key staff to carry out selection of TG3 candidates, following strictly the criteria agreed by the whole Partnership.
Launching of the mobilities: the JC will draw up an information pack addressed to selected candidates in order to clarify basic aspects of the mobility they are going to undertake. This information will be developed as a general guide/handbook and will be distributed via e-mail together with proper instructions from the coordinating institution about academic and administrative procedures.
ROLE OF JOINT COORDINATOR
AT MONITORING LEVEL:
The JC will perform an internal analysis of the grantees’ feedback (obtained through the monitoring instruments).
The JC will issue, when necessary, proper recommendations to Coordinator in order to improve the working of the project.
