Horse Breeds Quarter Horse: working ranch horse
– AQHA: largest horse breed assoc. in U.S.– fast sprinter (1/4 mile) = quarter horse– first breed developed in U.S. (1600’s)– most heavily muscled light horse– 14-16 hands tall at withers

– faster at longer distances (1/4 - 2 miles)– jumping & hunting competitions– 15-17 hands tall

100lbs. Not a recognized breed. Used for showing and
companionship. Too small to be ridden.
