We have compiled a list of items that are helpful in case of evacuation or general disaster. EQUINE EMERGENCY KIT Medical Info and ID Neck Straps Keep medical information on hand at all times. Information should be kept in a waterproof container for safe keeping. ID Neck Strap are a simple and easy way to identify horses. Marking Sticks or Marking Spray Marking Sticks are also useful for identifying horses. For best results, choose a marking stick that is both water- and weather-resistant. Rope Halters Rope Halters are a quick and easy option for controlling your horse. Additionally, rope halters are durable and easily adjusted to most sizes. First Aid Kit Basic First Aid kits for Horses can be purchased pre-packaged. If building your own, a basic kit should include bandages, gauze, tweezers, scissors, antiseptic ointment and gloves. Vetericyn An OTC spray that manages wounds, skin abrasions, lacerations, minor irritations, cuts and more. Vetericyn is a non-toxic product that is safe for all animals! Vet Wrap Vet Wrap is an easy tear, self-adhesive bandage great for protecting wounds from further damage. Vet Wrap also acts as an immobilizer for splints and casts. Gauze Gauze is necessary for cleaning, dressing and packing wounds. Non-stick gauze makes removing and replacing bandages less painful for the horse. Depending on the severity of a wound, gauze should be replaced between 2 to 4 times daily. Treats Keeping your horse’s favorite treats handy can help ease anxiety in stressful situations. Flashlight A flashlights provides a light source in case of power outages. Don’t forget extra batteries! Blankets A waterproof blanket will help protect your horse from the elements by providing warmth in colder areas while also protecting from the rain.
