Music VideoEVALUATION

For narrative we kept it linear for ease of recording and editing, since our time was limited for this project. However we didn't keep the narrative as a literal representation of the lyrics, we used a game of basketball to represent the struggle that's found within love. In regards to editing, we kept it simple with continuity, we kept to the conventions of the average music video. Camera movement & framing was important as we had to collect multiple shots within a confined space (music room), we gathered multiple close ups of each band member so we would have some variation within the video. However we did not collect any establishing shots as we felt it wasn't necessary at the time. Lastly, for Diegesis the narrative within the video is concluded in some form with the final shot representing the perseverance an individual has for the 'relationship'.

Firstly, thought beats were not implemented as shot placement was not influenced by the lyrics. On the other hand our narrative is initiative as it fuses rock music with a sports narrative which is rare. 'The star image' was focused upon less due to the artist being a band which included 4 members to focus upon, although we did include more shot time for the vocalist as that is more important regarding conventions of music videos and generally being able to see the artist produce the lyrics. In relation to visuals of the song, we illustrate that 'sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but you must persevere and keep going', we also use disjuncture since the original video displays a women, whilst we display a sport (basketball). Lastly, the technical aspects of our music video involve the color of the narrative, as we implemented a black & white filter to allow viewers to have a greater focus upon it, in conjunction with slow motion for an added entertainment affect (since basketball is fast paced, it can be analysed better when time is reduced - similar to life [metaphorical]).

Influences

The videos that influenced me were the following: Molly's chambers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLaJkbkG5NI Can you feel my heart - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJJYpsA5tv8 I was influenced by the use of slow motion within the narrative in 'can you feel

my heart', whilst I felt the shot types and pace used for 'molly's chambers' performance scenes was more suited to my genre of music considering we selected a Kings of Leon song as well.

Conventions

I decided to challenge the convention of lyrical representation with the music video. Instead of focusing upon a literal representation of the lyrics/meaning of the song, instead we altered it into a metaphorical display that could be interpreted by the viewer (also causing them to think about what they are watching). We used a game of basketball to represent to 'ups and downs' of love for the narrative of the video, this is where we also implemented slow-motion and a black & white filter to create a more focused and clear visual display.

Conventions

Overall I feel my Digipak is incredibly conventional as the selection of images and the environment they were taken in alongside post-production were influenced heavily by rock bands (especially Kings of Leon, of which their song was used for the music video).

Conventions

Album Cover: I used a simplistic color scheme that linked to the music video via the use of a black & white filter. As well as this I used a clear font type to keep it readable & simplistic. Other than this I implemented a list of song titles on the inside of the album design, this was done so it would not cover the graphic on the backside.

Advert: For the advertisement, I used a similar design to the album, implementing one of the same images, however instead of adjusting the color balance, I adapted the advert with a simple filter to make it more clear & vibrant whilst their being something to make it different from the raw image.
