International StandardsAll EPR-Series actuators comply with the latest ISO5211 valveinterface standards, for optimum strength, standardised dimensionsand direct mounting, and the NAMUR international interfacestandards to enable efficient and accurate assembly of automatedpackages.
Wide Range of Torque OutputsThe EPR double acting actuator has torque outputs from 12 to 4509N.m (108 to 39946 ins.lbs.), while the spring return actuatorproduces spring end torques from 4 to 1252 N.m (38 to 10166ins.lbs.). The actuators are rated for continuous operation atpneumatic supply pressures from 2.5 to 8.0 bar (36 to 116 psig).
High Quality, Cost Effective ActuatorBy incorporating engineering excellence, and the latest precisionmanufacturing techniques, the EPR actuator is constructed to thehighest quality standards and offers efficient, reliable performancein a cost effective package. The corrosion resistant, hard anodizedtreatment on both internal and external surfaces combined withpermanently lubricated, replaceable bearings and guide platesensures reliable operation and extended actuator life. To reduceinstallation space and increase flexibility, the housing length isidentical for both spring return and double acting actuators.
8 Blow-Out Proof Drive Shaft The pinion is fitted with an octagon shaped anti-blow out devicecombined with an electroless nickel plated blowout proof bearing,to provide safe, high cycle life.
9 NAMUR Standard Interfaces For ancillary equipment such as positioners and switchboxes, thelatest VDI/VDE 3845 mounting interface is provided to allow quickand simple mounting with direct pinion drive. A NAMUR solenoidmounting pad allows direct mounting of solenoid valves to theactuator.
10 ISO 5211 Valve InterfaceThe EPR-Series has valve mounting pads in accordance withISO5211 standard, providing standardized mounting for ISOcompatible quarter-turn valves.
11 Visual Position Indicator The EPR-Series actuators are supplied as standard with a visualposition indicator.
12 Simple to Convert Converting from double acting to spring return configuration issimple and performed by removing the end caps and adding theunique spring cartridges. Actuator rotation is field reversible bysimply removing, rotating by 180。and re-installing the pistons. 05

Advantages
1 Hard Anodized BodyThe extruded aluminum body incorporates an advanced,hard anodizing treatment on the internal and externalsurfaces. This provides reduced friction, increaseddurability and corrosion protection. The body can alsobe provided in a number of optional finishes includingPTFE coated, electroless nickel plated and a variety ofpolyester powder coated colors.
2 Large Piston DesignThe EPR actuators are designed with an optimally sizedpiston rack. This minimizes backlash between the rackand pinion ensuring that they are precisely engaged. Thisfeature guarantees excellent power delivery and accuratevalve modulation.
3 Advanced Rack and Pinion Design A compact, rugged construction, with dual rack and pinion,guarantees stable torque output throughout the actuator’s travel. The design is also suitable for high-cycle, high-speed duties.
4 Travel AdjustmentThe EPR-Series actuators provide two external travel stops allowingfor ±5° adjustment in both open and closed positions. This allowsaccurate valve alignment and provides actuator travel adjustmentfrom 80° to 100°. Optional bolts fitted to the end caps can provideadditional travel adjustment, for the open position. The externallyadjusted bolts can provide open position travel from 0 to 100。.
5 Piston Guide PlateA permanently lubricated, replaceable guide plate is fitted to thepiston rack to remove lateral deflection and ensure smoothoperation by eliminating metal to metal contact, improving wearresistance and increasing efficiency.
6 Drive Shaft Bearings The EPR-Series actuators have self-lubricating, replaceable shaftbearings providing low-friction, and high wear resistance. Thisenables high cycle life and reliable performance.
7 Corrosion Protection Polyester powder coated end caps provide excellent anti-corrosionproperties, and optional finishes are available if required, includingPTFE coating, electroless nickel plating or hard anodizing.

Torque Outputs
Double Acting The EPR-Series actuator isdesigned such that torqueis independent of actuatortravel and is constantthroughout the travel range.
Spring Return Spring return actuatorshave both spring and airtorques and each torquehas a higher start figurethan the end figure. TheEPR-Series actuator is designed such that the spring and air starttorques are equal, as are the spring and air end torques.
Operational Data
Media The operating media should be clean instrument air or non-corrosivegas. The media can be lubricated or non-lubricated. It should have adew point of -20¡� or at least 10¡� below the ambient temperature,and a maximum particle size of 50 micron.
Supply PressureThe EPR-Series is rated for continuous operation at pneumaticsupply pressures from 2.5 to 8 bar (36 to 116 psig).
Temperature Range Standard EPR actuators are designed for operating temperatures of-20°C to 80°C (-4°F to +176°F).Options are available for low -40°C (-40°F) and high +150°C (+302°F)temperatures, and special requirements can be supplied on request.
Torque OutputsThe EPR double acting torque output ranges from 12 to 4509 N.m(108 to 39946 ins.lbs.) and the spring return actuator producesspring end torques from 4 to 1252 N.m (38 to 10166 ins.lbs.).
Actuator Operation
Double Acting Configuration As standard the actuator is supplied for counterclockwise rotationwhen pressure is applied to port A. This pressurizes the internalchamber driving the pistons apart. When air is applied to port B theend chambers are pressurized driving the pistons together causingclockwise actuator rotation.If required, the pistons can be inverted in the housing resulting inclockwise rotation when pressure is applied to port A.
Spring Return ConfigurationAs standard the actuator is supplied for clockwise rotation in airfailure mode. When port A is vented the springs drive the pistonstogether, causing clockwise rotation. When pressure is applied to portA the internal chamber is pressurized driving the pistons apart andcompressing the springs, causing anti-clockwise actuator rotation.port B is used as a breather for the spring chamber swept volume.
Construction Data
1 The EPR series actuators are arugged and compact design,available in both double acting andspring return configurations forquarter-turn valves.
2 Conversion from double acting tospring return configuration is simpleand performed by simply removingthe end caps and adding the requiredspring cartridges.
3 The EPR actuator combines a highprecision, extruded aluminum alloybody with a hard anodized surfacefinish for excellent performance.
4 Die-cast aluminum end caps are polyester powder coated forimproved corrosion resistance.
5 The double rack and pinion design allows efficient, reliableperformance and long life.
6 All moving parts are fitted with permanently lubricated,replaceable bearings and guide plates to eliminate metal to metalcontact and minimize internal wear.
7 External travel stops provide ±5。of travel adjustment in bothdirections of pinion rotation. Optional bolts can be provided in theend caps for greater adjustment.
8 EPR-Series incorporates the latest VDI/VDE 3845 mountinginterface and a visual position indicator as standard.
9 Spring assemblies are designed for high torque and reliableperformance.
10 The gear teeth are precisely manufactured to minimize back lashand offer excellent performance for modulating applications.
11 EPR actuators are designed to offer excellent corrosionresistance in industrial and commercial applications.
12 The blow-out proof pinion provides safety and exceptionalgear life.
13 The EPR-Series is designed for low maintenance and does notrequire any special tools.
14 The EPR-Series actuator is available with a declutchable gearboxoption. This allows quick and simple operation of the highesttorque valves when the air or power supply fails.
15 EPR-Series actuators are certified to IP66/IP67 protection ratings.
