1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by[his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of allthings, by whom also he made the worlds;

1:3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory,and the express image of his person, andupholding all things by the word of his power,when he had by himself purged our sins, satdown on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

1:4. Being made so much better than theangels, as he hath by inheritance obtained amore excellent name than they.

1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at anytime, Thou art my Son, this day have I begottenthee? And again, I will be to him a Father, andhe shall be to me a Son?

1:6 And again, when he bringeth in thefirstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let allthe angels of God worship him.

1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh hisangels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

1:8 But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, OGod, [is] for ever and ever: a sceptre ofrighteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom.

1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hatediniquity; therefore God, [even] thy God, hathanointed thee with the oil of gladness above thyfellows.

1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hastlaid the foundation of the earth; and theheavens are the works of thine hands:

1:11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; andthey all shall wax old as doth a garment;

1:12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up,and they shall be changed: but thou art thesame, and thy years shall not fail.

1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sentforth to minister for them who shall be heirs ofsalvation?

2:1. Therefore we ought to give the moreearnest heed to the things which we have heard,lest at any time we should let [them] slip.

2:2 For if the word spoken by angels wasstedfast, and every transgression anddisobedience received a just recompence ofreward;

2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect sogreat salvation; which at the first began to bespoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto usby them that heard [him];

2:4 God also bearing [them] witness, both withsigns and wonders, and with divers miracles,and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to hisown will?

2:5. For unto the angels hath he not put insubjection the world to come, whereof wespeak.

2:6 But one in a certain place testified, saying,What is man, that thou art mindful of him? orthe son of man, that thou visitest him?

2:7 Thou madest him a little lower than theangels; thou crownedst him with glory andhonour, and didst set him over the works of thyhands:

2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection underhis feet. For in that he put all in subjectionunder him, he left nothing [that is] not putunder him. But now we see not yet all thingsput under him.

2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a littlelower than the angels for the suffering of death,crowned with glory and honour; that he by thegrace of God should taste death for every man.

2:10. For it became him, for whom [are] allthings, and by whom [are] all things, in bringingmany sons unto glory, to make the captain oftheir salvation perfect through sufferings.

2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they whoare sanctified [are] all of one: for which causehe is not ashamed to call them brethren,

2:12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto mybrethren, in the midst of the church will I singpraise unto thee.

2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. Andagain, Behold I and the children which Godhath given me.

2:14. Forasmuch then as the children arepartakers of flesh and blood, he also himselflikewise took part of the same; that throughdeath he might destroy him that had the powerof death, that is, the devil;

2:15 And deliver them who through fear ofdeath were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

2:16 For verily he took not on [him the natureof] angels; but he took on [him] the seed ofAbraham.

2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him tobe made like unto [his] brethren, that he mightbe a merciful and faithful high priest in things[pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation forthe sins of the people.

2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered beingtempted, he is able to succour them that aretempted.

3:1. Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of theheavenly calling, consider the Apostle and HighPriest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

3:2 Who was faithful to him that appointedhim, as also Moses [was faithful] in all hishouse.

3:3 For this [man] was counted worthy ofmore glory than Moses, inasmuch as he whohath builded the house hath more honour thanthe house.

3:4 For every house is builded by some [man];but he that built all things [is] God.

3:5 And Moses verily [was] faithful in all hishouse, as a servant, for a testimony of thosethings which were to be spoken after;

3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house;whose house are we, if we hold fast theconfidence and the rejoicing of the hope firmunto the end.

3:7. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear his voice,

3:8 Harden not your hearts, as in theprovocation, in the day of temptation in thewilderness:

3:9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me,and saw my works forty years.

3:10 Wherefore I was grieved with thatgeneration, and said, They do alway err in[their] heart; and they have not known myways.

3:11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall notenter into my rest.)

3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in anyof you an evil heart of unbelief, in departingfrom the living God.

3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it iscalled To day; lest any of you be hardenedthrough the deceitfulness of sin.

3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, ifwe hold the beginning of our confidencestedfast unto the end;

3:15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear hisvoice, harden not your hearts, as in theprovocation.

3:16 For some, when they had heard, didprovoke: howbeit not all that came out ofEgypt by Moses.

3:17 But with whom was he grieved fortyyears? [was it] not with them that had sinned,whose carcases fell in the wilderness?

3:18 And to whom sware he that they shouldnot enter into his rest, but to them that believednot?

3:19 So we see that they could not enter inbecause of unbelief.

4:1. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise beingleft [us] of entering into his rest, any of youshould seem to come short of it.

4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, aswell as unto them: but the word preached didnot profit them, not being mixed with faith inthem that heard [it].

4:3 For we which have believed do enter intorest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, ifthey shall enter into my rest: although theworks were finished from the foundation of theworld.

4:4 For he spake in a certain place of theseventh [day] on this wise, And God did restthe seventh day from all his works.

4:5 And in this [place] again, If they shall enterinto my rest.

4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that somemust enter therein, and they to whom it wasfirst preached entered not in because ofunbelief:

4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying inDavid, To day, after so long a time; as it is said,To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not yourhearts.

4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, thenwould he not afterward have spoken of anotherday.

4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he alsohath ceased from his own works, as God [did]from his.

4:11. Let us labour therefore to enter into thatrest, lest any man fall after the same example ofunbelief.

4:12 For the word of God [is] quick, andpowerful, and sharper than any twoedgedsword, piercing even to the dividing asunder ofsoul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intentsof the heart.

4:13 Neither is there any creature that is notmanifest in his sight: but all things [are] nakedand opened unto the eyes of him with whom wehave to do.

4:14 Seeing then that we have a great highpriest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus theSon of God, let us hold fast [our] profession.

4:15 For we have not an high priest whichcannot be touched with the feeling of ourinfirmities; but was in all points tempted like as[we are, yet] without sin.

4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto thethrone of grace, that we may obtain mercy, andfind grace to help in time of need.

5:1. For every high priest taken from amongmen is ordained for men in things [pertaining]to God, that he may offer both gifts andsacrifices for sins:

5:2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant,and on them that are out of the way; for that hehimself also is compassed with infirmity.

5:3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for thepeople, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

5:4 And no man taketh this honour untohimself, but he that is called of God, as [was]Aaron.

5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to bemade an high priest; but he that said unto him,Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

5:6 As he saith also in another [place], Thou[art] a priest for ever after the order ofMelchisedec.

5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned heobedience by the things which he suffered;

5:9 And being made perfect, he became theauthor of eternal salvation unto all them thatobey him;

5:11 Of whom we have many things to say,and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull ofhearing.

5:12 For when for the time ye ought to beteachers, ye have need that one teach you againwhich [be] the first principles of the oracles ofGod; and are become such as have need ofmilk, and not of strong meat.

5:13 For every one that useth milk [is]unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he isa babe.

5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them thatare of full age, [even] those who by reason ofuse have their senses exercised to discern bothgood and evil.

6:1. Therefore leaving the principles of thedoctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection;not laying again the foundation of repentancefrom dead works, and of faith toward God,

6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of layingon of hands, and of resurrection of the dead,and of eternal judgment.

6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.

6:4 For [it is] impossible for those who wereonce enlightened, and have tasted of theheavenly gift, and were made partakers of theHoly Ghost,

6:5 And have tasted the good word of God,and the powers of the world to come,

6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them againunto repentance; seeing they crucify tothemselves the Son of God afresh, and put[him] to an open shame.

6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rainthat cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forthherbs meet for them by whom it is dressed,receiveth blessing from God:

6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers[is] rejected, and [is] nigh unto cursing; whoseend [is] to be burned.
