6 But godliness with contentment is a great gain. 7 For we brought nothing
into the world, and we can take nothing out. 8 But if we have food and
clothing, we will be content with these.

9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction.

• For the Christian contentment derives from God.
• True godliness produces contentment and spiritual riches.
• Love of money and contentment are mutually exclusive.
Temporal treasure causes us to lose focus. (v. 7)
• Jesus had much to say about chasing temporal riches.
• To be so focused on temporal possessions as to miss the eternal riches is the height of folly.
Seeking temporal treasure complicates life. (v. 8)
• The more money and possessions one has, the more complex life becomes.
• Material things demand time and energy that could be better spent on eternal realities.

• The supreme goal of a believer's life must be to love and glorify God, not to amass material possessions

• it is easy to become trapped. • it can lead to destruction• it can lead to eternal judgment.
Loving money leads us astray. (v. 10)
• The love of money becomes the root all sorts of evil.

• Believers must pursue God, not money.
