How has your understanding of inclusion changed (or been confirmed?) Think of a person that you know with a disability. Using the inclusion continuum, what does their day look like most of the time? What could change to make their day/life more inclusive? Where does your classroom/school/district fall on the inclusion continuum? What would be the next step forward towards a more inclusive experience? What could you do as an individual, a family, a group, or a community to make this shift possible? Who/What can support you to shift? How will you celebrate your successes? Think of a time when you saw, or were a part of, a shift towards a more inclusive experience for an individual or community. What were some of the barriers? How did you over come them? What did you need to make this evolution successful? How might this inclusion continuum relate to the experiences of other populations who are marginalized? What might the story be for people of colour for example? Or women? Read the chapter “The Gay Danish” in the book, One Without the Other. How might Person, or Identity first language, support the advocacy and evolution of inclusion for individuals with disabilities?
