‘In the Face of History’ brought together the work of some ofthe greatest European photographers of the 20th Century inthe Barbican Art Gallery, London.

The Gallery itself is configured as a large open hall atentrance level overlooked by a continuous mezzanine above. In our design the exhibition began on the mezzanine withphotographs from the first half of the twentieth century.

The scale of the hall was used to show the dramatic increaseof scale and scope that occurred in photography in the laterpart of the 20th century.
