Differentiated Instruction
Introduction
In this tutorial, we will explore the enVisionmath2.0 resources
that support differentiated instruction.
enVisionmath2.0 lessons are designed to support a variety of
learner types through a diverse approach to
concepts. Each lesson provides leveled support through
adaptations, accommodations, and differentiated
instruction, as well as strategies to support English language
learners.
We will look at planning resources, as well as resources for
differentiating instruction both within and at
the end of a lesson, or any time strategic interventions are
needed.
You can follow along using any volume of your Teacher’s
Edition.

Planning for Differentiation
Let us begin by looking at some of the enVisionmath2.0 planning
resources for differentiated instruction.
In the Teacher’s Edition Program Overview you will find the
Differentiation Resources chart. The chart
provides an overview of available differentiation resources,
categorized into the three Response to
Intervention tiers, to help you plan out your lesson and
identify appropriate resources. We will explore
some of the ongoing interventions available during a lesson,
strategic interventions available at the end of
a lesson, and intensive interventions available anytime.

Differentiated Instruction
Differentiation within a Lesson
Right from the start, every enVisionmath2.0 lesson provides
grouping recommendations, including whole-
class and small-group options to support differentiated
instruction.
During the lesson, ongoing differentiation begins with guiding
questions in the Teacher’s Edition. The
Effective Teaching Practice (ETP) icons alert you to questions
and strategies throughout each lesson that
focus on the eight Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices
(National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics, 2014).
These guiding questions help you monitor your students’
understanding and guide your instruction
accordingly.
Guiding questions are also available during the online Visual
Learning Animation Plus. During the
animation, an avatar guides your students through various
questions. Built-in pauses allow your students
an opportunity to respond. In addition, the animations and
interactive exercises provide diverse support for
a variety of learner types.

English Language Learner Support
In addition, within every lesson, you will find an English
Language Learners section. Use these strategies
to support the development of your students’ English language
proficiency. Here you will find specific
guidance for the three levels of English language proficiency:
Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced.
In addition, an ELL Toolkit is available online for additional
support. The toolkit includes professional
development articles, instructional principles, strategies, and
graphic organizers to help you support your
English language learners.

Embedded Interventions
Embedded interventions are provided throughout the lesson.
Response to Intervention (RtI) adaptations
and Enrichment extensions are provided at point-of-use for
differentiated support and guidance. Look for
the RtI and Enrichment icons to alert you to these
differentiation resources available throughout the
lesson.
The Prevent Misconceptions feature, located within the guiding
questions, helps you clarify concepts,
prevent common errors, and support Tier 1 interventions.

Check for Understanding
You can verify comprehension of the lesson’s Essential Question
directly after instruction by having your
students complete the Do You Understand? and Do You Know How?
problems. Use your students’
responses to determine whether you need to revisit any part of
the lesson, prescribe interventions, or
simply assign additional practice.
Additional examples are available in print and online for those
students in need of extra practice.

Practice Exercises
You can also use your students’ work from the Practice and
Problem Solving section to prescribe
differentiated instruction. In your Teacher’s Edition, you will
find adaptations for remediation (under Error
Intervention) and enrichment (under Challenge) to further
differentiate instruction for your students.
The Practice and Problem Solving exercises also provide leveled
practice and help build students’
proficiency as they work independently. These exercises also
provide opportunities for your students to
engage in specific math practices (that is, the Standards for
Mathematical Practice) as they solve a variety
of performance-based problems.
You can also assign your students the Practice and Problem
Solving items online with MathXL for
School®. These exercises are auto-scored and have built-in
learning aids to help provide support,
including:
Help Me Solve This,
View an Example,
Animations,
A glossary, and
Math Tools.

Differentiation at the End of a Lesson
At the end of every lesson, in the Assess and Differentiate
section, you can find resources to assess and
identify your students’ strengths and weaknesses in order to
provide further differentiated support.
You can use the Lesson Quiz, available in print and online, to
assign differentiated interventions. The
online version is auto-scored, and auto assigns intervention or
enrichment exercises to your students.

Video Tutorials
Video tutorials, powered by Virtual Nerd®, are available for
remediation, homework, and practice
support. Students can access them on any device, including
smartphones, through Savvas Realize™. These interactive videos
provide step-by-step explanations delivered by an on-screen
instructor.
Students have the option of pausing the video, repeating a
section, viewing a diagram, or jumping directly
to a step that is giving them difficulty.
Students can also access these videos using the BouncePages app,
which students can download for
free from the app store for their mobile device.

Leveled Support
Now, let us look at the available leveled resources for you to
prescribe differentiated instruction of key
understandings and skills, as well as extend on-level and
advanced students’ thinking.
In the Differentiated Intervention section, comprehensive
differentiation resources are available to provide
students with Intervention, On-Level, and Advanced support. The
icons help guide you to the appropriate
resource for your students.
The resources include system- and teacher-driven opportunities
to personalize learning. This library of
resources is available anytime; both online and in print.
Let us explore each resource.

Additional Leveled Support
Additional Practice is also available for students who may need
extra opportunities exploring a concept.
These exercises follow the same structure of the Practice and
Problem Solving exercises in the Student
Edition. MathXL for School® Additional Practice, which is
available online, provides automatic scoring as
well.
Be sure to explore the online resources on SavvasRealize.com
prior to assigning them to your students to become familiar with
their various functions and formats. Doing so will allow you to
provide the
necessary guidance and answer questions that might arise.
