The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 is an act of the Parliament of India. The act contains provisions for the protection and improvement of the human environment and for the prohibition and/or regulation of activities having harmful effects on the environment. It is also known as the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, was passed by the Parliament of India on 29 November and received the assent of then President Giani Zail Singh on 16 December 1986. The Act allows for a broad interpretation of what constitutes a pollutant and what sources should be targeted to reduce pollution. It aims at protecting and improving the environment and creating an authority to help achieve this goal.

We all know that the Environment is a national subject. The Parliament ha s enacted the Environment Protection Act, 1986 which is aimed at preven ting and /or minimizing deterioration of the environment and protecting it from further degradation. The Environment Protection Act of 1986 is the successor to the Air Pollution Control Act of 1981 and deals with air poll ution in a compressive manner. Environmental clearance in India is regula ted by the EIA notification, 2006.

The Environment (Protection) Act 1986 is an Act of the Parliament of India ena

nt, storage, and disposal facilities for hazardous waste, promote research and de
velopment on pollution prevention and control measures, protect endangered spe
cies of flora and fauna, protect forests and wildlife. It is one of the important laws
passed by the Central Government. The Act focuses on strengthening the forest l
aws, thereby increasing the productivity of the forest. The Indian Forest Act 192
7 amendment is more focused on the conservation of forests and proper utilizatio
n of its resources. It concentrates on reducing carbon emission and climate chan
ge happening due to growing deforestation and degradation policies.
