Environment Protection Act

The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 is an act of the Parliament of India. The act contains provisions for the protection and improvement of the human environment and for the prohibition and/or regulation of activities having harmful effects on the environment. It is also known as the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, was passed by the Parliament of India on 29 November and received the assent of then President Giani Zail Singh on 16 December 1986. The Act allows for a broad interpretation of what constitutes a pollutant and what sources should be targeted to reduce pollution. It aims at protecting and improving the environment and creating an authority to help achieve this goal.
