TEI of Thessaly was established as a tertiary education institution in 1983, along with all Greek TEI.s which replaced

the existent Higher Technical & Vocational Centres.

Today TEI of Thessaly is the third largest Technological Education Institute in Greece (with approx. 21.000 students)

and comprises four Schools and fourteen academic departments in three cities Larissa, Karditsa and Trikala.

Its strategic mission is to continuously improve the quality of the courses and the educational services offered as

well as to promote knowledge through a variety of research programmes.

Our facilities include modern classrooms and laboratories, Halls of Residence, auditoriums, restaurant, a multi-

sport center and a conference centre, as well as excellent I.T. services. We provide students with ample learning re-

sources and access to unlimited sources of information and knowledge through the library and the database net-

work.

Our institution delivers postgraduate courses in collaboration with Universities in Greece, the United Kingdom

and Italy, while at the same time offers academic support to students through the Career Office (employment issues,

etc.), the European Programmes Office (mobility, etc.) and the Institute of Life-long Learning (continuing education,

etc.).

Our mission is to educate our students as responsible citizens in a democratic country and integrated Europe and

as remarkable professionals in the labour market.

Lifelong LearningInstitute

Certificates

Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) is an autonomous nonprofitable educational unit in TEI of Thessaly that offers educationalservices to Higher Education graduates. The Institute is run by one-person and collective governing bodies, supervisedby the TEI and financially managed by the TEI Education and Research Committee.

All holders of a Higher Education degree in a related field fulfill the admission requirement for attending the programmes.

LLI focuses on the following educational / scientific fields:

Certificates of attendance are granted when the programme has been successfully completed and the certification criteria andprocedures have been met. Studies lead to a Continuing Education Certificate or to a Lifelong Learning Certificate.

Student Welfare

Teaching Material

TEI students are entitled to free textbooks and

teaching notes.

Accommodation

Free accommodation is provided at the Halls of

Residence to a number of students that have low

income. The Halls of Residence in Larissa and

Karditsa city, belong to TEI and can provide ac-

commodation to 702 students in twin-bedded

rooms, including rooms with special facilities for

students with disabilities. In the same complex

there are also TV rooms, rooms for indoor

games,coffee shop and laundry facilities.

Student Restaurant

Free meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are pro-

vided at the Student Restaurant to students that

have low income. Student Restaurant is located

on the ground floor at the Conference Centre.

Health Care

Students are entitled to free medical and health

care under the Greek National Health system, un-

less otherwise insured, for as long as they study at

the TEI, up to twelve semesters.

Reduce Fair Card

Upon registration students are issued a Reduced

Fare Card which entitles them to reduced ticket

fares in all means of public transportation. The Re-

duced Fare Card is renewed very year by the

School secretary.

Student Grants

Student grants are available to students who are

not entitled to free accommodation, in order to cov-

er their living expenses, on provision they respond

successfully to their academic obligations.

Scholarships

All students are eligible for scholarships which are

granted by the Greek State Scholarship Founda-

tion, on the basis of their academic performance.

Library

The Library was founded in 1973 and its resources meet the edu-

cational and research needs of all users-members within the TEI

community. It comprises the Central Library and the Multiple-

copies Library, both situated at the central building block in Larissa

campus, and the Libraries at Karditsa and Trikala Branches.

Library facilities and areas accessible to all library members in-

clude:� Bookcase room with collections of books and other printed ma-

terial.� Reading room with quiet study places.� Laboratory fully equipped with computing and audio-visual fa-

cilities that provide access to electronic and audio-visual edu-

cational material.� Laboratory specially designed for people with disabilities.� Computer Work Stations for students to search for available

books via the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).� Journals Display and Reading room, with a large collection of

issues both in Greek and other languages.

Each library member is entitled to the follow-

ing services:

� Book loans for up to fifteen (15) days

� Interlibrary loans of books from many other

HE institutions, through participation in the

National Cooperation Network of Scien-

tific and Technological Libraries and the

National Documentation Centre.

The Employment and Career Services (ECS) of theTEI of Thessaly is a recently created innovativestructure established under the Operational Pro-gram "Education and Lifelong Learning", cofinancedby the European Union (European Social Fund) andnational resources.The principal function of ECS is to coordinate theactivities of the Career Services Office, the WorkPlacement Office, and the Innovation and Entrepre-neurship Unit. Its mission is to develop the appro-priate strategy for bridging the gap between higher e-ducation and industry, in order to enhance the em-ployability of graduates.

Career Services OfficeCareer Office at TEI of Thessaly:

• Aims to properly advise and assist TEI students and graduates in

planning their future career path.

• Develops close contact with enterprises and organizations not only in

the region but throughout the country and informs them of the insti-

tution and the graduates for recruitment purposes.

• Records the needs in the economy through employment opportuni-

ties offered by companies and demand for employment by TEI grad-

uates.

• Provides counselling to students and graduates regarding their pro-

fes-sional skills and employability issues.

• Works closely with professional and social agents in Thessaly re-

gion.

Work Placement OfficeSupervised work experience is an indispensable component of the

undergraduate programs offered by the TEI of Thessaly. During the

last semester our students take up a six-calendar-month work place-

ment at industries, enterprises, companies, offices etc, in both the pri-

vate and public sector in order to put into practice the knowledge they

have acquired and gain valuable experience in a workplace setting.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Unit.It is a newly found unit run by the Employment and Career Structure

and aims to provide motivation, ideas and mainly confidence to Higher

Education students and graduates in order to develop their entrepre-

neurial iniative and set up new enterprises or take up entrepreneurial

activities in existing companies. The unit’s mission is to increase em-

ployability and decrease unemployment rates on the other hand.

European Programmes Office (Erasmus)

Sports Centre

It was established in 1995 and aims at implementing European educational programmes.

ERASMUS, the mobility programme for Higher Education students, staff and institutions, and ECTS are the two

main actions TEI of Thessaly is implementing. ERASMUS offer students that have successfully completed their first

year of studies, an opportunity to undertake part of their studies (three up to twelve months) at a partner institution

in another European country. The study abroad may involve class attendance, work placement or writing the dis-

sertation and it is recognized by TEI of Thessaly on the basis of bilateral academic agreements. The EU provides el-

igible ERASMUS students with mobility grants through the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) which is

the national agent.

Studying abroad under Erasmus Programme can give students a chance to experience life in another culture and

studying under a different Higher Education system. It can enhance their employability and add an international di-

mension to their CV as graduates.

TEI of Thessaly has established cooperation and signed more than 100 bilateral agreements with partner insti-

tutions in Europe.

Students are offered the chance to take part in various athletic and leisure activities andevents that the Centre organizes and holds at the TEI sports facilities.These include:
