Title: The start-up fest 2K19
Date: 24th August
Venue: Indoor stadium, Mankapur, Nagpur
Report:
‘Innovation is seeing what everybody sees, and thinking what nobody has thought’.
This very idea was given a form by Municipal Corporation of Nagpur through ‘The start-up
fest 2K19’.
The motive of event was to bring together successful entrepreneurs and young innovative
minds under one roof. The EDC students of Hislop College were given an assignment to visit
the Start-up Fest to have a first-hand experience and exposure to entrepreneurship, its concept
and to listen to a wide range of deliberations. This was with the view of igniting the passion
towards entrepreneurship among the young minds. The executive members of the cell filed
the following report after visiting the programme.
The event commenced on a melodious note by ‘MH 31’ band that lifted up the spirits of the
enthusiastic audience with their soulful songs. The programme officially inaugurated at the
hands of Hon. Mr Nitin Gadkari and mayor of Nagpur Hon. Dr. Nanda Jichkar. This was
followed by a beautiful dance performance by artists on Ganesh Vandana.
Dr. Nanda Jichkar in her address motivated the youngsters to take up innovative ideas and
promised to even fund creative start-up ideas as she believes one should strive for knowledge
and not for success. She further emphasised that creative ideas of today, would become
successful business proposition in the very near future.
Mr. Sandeep Kulkarni, a popular face of Marathi cinema and Mr Bharat Ganeshpure another
popular face in Marathi industry graced the occasion. They encouraged the students to pursue
their passion as their profession. Mr Ganeshpure believed that most innovative ideas flourish
with what is called as ‘DESI JUGAAD’.
Mr. Gadkari in his address introduced himself as an innovator and an entrepreneur and
explained how these capacities shaped his personality eventually. He shared a number of
ideas which were taken up and were a great success. One such idea was to filter the sewage
water in order to make it potable and on selling it earned the municipal corporation of
Nagpur, a profit of around 180 crores. Another amazing idea was fish/fruit market waste in
production of bio CNG and utilizing it as a fuel. This is not only eco-friendly but also cost
effective. He encouraged the youth to keep thinking and implementing such out of box ideas.
This was followed by presentation by the students wherein they shared their start-up ideas
with everyone present. Multiple camera renting and photo booth, Consultancy regarding
property and construction, wheel chair with navigator for the visually impaired were some
interesting ideas that were discussed. Another element of the fest was the exhibition which
