Mr Ajis has performed total ankle replacement surgery on both of my severely arthritic ankles and the transformation has been nothing less than astounding for me. The first surgery was performed in June 2018 and although I had a fracture in my medial malleolus (apparently quite common) during surgery and subsequently requiring plating to ensure the integrity of the joint, the recovery was a total success once our of plaster.The second ankle was operated on in Sept 2019 and no plate was required so a plaster cast wasn't necessary, facilitating a quicker recovery of roughly 6 weeks , some of which was spent in a orthopaedic support boot.After years of being in pain and unable to walk anywhere, I am finally getting my life back and feel I can begin to contribute to society again.

Mr Ajis and his team are simply brilliant and providing the team are happy with your recovery and use of walking aids, you can go home the next day.Thank you Mr Ajis & team, you are amazing.Kevin Roberts

Mr Ajis performed surgery on my ankle after I suffered a trimalleolar fracture in Nov 2018. I am delighted with the outcome of the surgery and my recovery has exceeded expectations. At 3 weeks post-op, I was allowed to start partial weight bearing and at 6 weeks I was walking unaided without a limp. At 2 months post-op I was able to go skiing again. Mr Ajis is very professional and I had total confidence in his opinion and advice. He was very clear about the outcomes and what to expect and gave me lots of information at every stage. Feet are important! After all, we need them to stand and move around. About two years ago I started getting pain around the articulation of my right big toe. It became unbearable to wear shoes and the site would get angry and swollen. My problem got worse over time; at home I could go barefoot, but outside I had to wear shoes or boots, especially in winter. Anyway, enough was enough so, nearly in tears, I went to my GP who diagnosed an Exostosis or bony growth on the top of my big toe at the articulation. I had an X-Ray and was referred to Mr Adam Ajis. He straight away identified the problem and was happy to proceed with the operation. All very straightforward; I chose to have a local anaesthetic (quicker recovery) and Mr Ajis did a keyhole procedure to remove the growing bone, finishing with 3 very fine sutures. I was in the hospital for the morning only and I was well looked after. The postoperative pain was minimal, well controlled by a few Ibuprofen. I stayed home for a week and then a week later had the sutures removed. A month on and I can wear normal shoes again and the best part, I’m pain free. I would recommend this sort of procedure to anyone as it has changed my life. Mr Ajis knows what he is doing and does it very well. Thank you to a great surgeon.

Mr Ajis shaved a painful bone spur from beneath my big toe joint which had been causing intense pain when walking. All was well but the pain returned so Mr Ajis decided to completely replace the big toe joint. I attended hospital at 7.30am and was back home by 1.00pm ...no crutches, full weight bearing, minimum discomfort and I only had to wear a surgical shoe for two weeks whilst the wound healed. Within one month of the operation i had and no pain whatsoever and full joint movement. Brilliant!At my recent post operative appointment with Mr Ajis, he made time to inquire after the arthritic ankle on my other leg which is now being assessed with the view to a total ankle replacement. A very caring surgeon who always finds time to inquire and to listen to patient's concerns.

I have extensive foot and toe deformity due to arthritis. I was referred to Mr. Ajis regarding my left foot problems, including needing the amputation of the 2nd toe, shaving the 'heads of the metatarsals underfoot' and hugely misshapen large toe that meant there was a huge 'bunion' type lump at the side of my foot. Mr. Ajis explained everything during the consultation and was professional, friendly and explained things using simple language.

The foot surgery was undertaken on 8th October 2018. I was amazed at how little post op pain I suffered and also incredulous at being able to partial weight bear almost straightaway. The healing has been quite rapid and much less traumatic than I had expected.

I have seen Mr. Ajis this morning for a follow up. We both studied the before and after x-rays and it does not look like the same foot! The improvement is immense and more than I could have hoped for. Before I had huge difficulty in finding shoes/footwear to accommodate my deformed foot and even then was in a lot of pain. My foot now looks much more 'normal' and less painful in shoes. I can also now do my own footcare - nail trim etc. without the need for professional help.

I cannot praise and thank this surgeon enough. He is an absolute credit to the NHS and a miracle worker in his surgical skills. Thank you very much.

Mr. Adam Ajis operated on my right ankle in July 2018 at Goring Hall Hospital. After the initial consultation and a review of the MRI scan, Mr Ajis advised me that the cysts were significantly larger and more numerous than any he had previously treated. He agreed to go ahead with the procedure but did warn me that he could not guarantee the outcome as the extent of the cysts was greater than anything he had previously treated. Following the operation I wore the surgical boot as per his advice and I returned to his clinic in September, pain free. Mr Ajis confirmed that the outcome of the operation had exceeded his expectations. I am now pain free and very grateful to the amazing skills of Mr Ajis. Having suffered years of pain due to the abnormal shape of my toes, Mr. Ajis came to my rescue this year. I was convinced the only solution was the removal of my second toe but Mr. Ajis suggested straightening the three bent toes instead and I am SO pleased I listened to his advice! I met Mr Ajis at Worthing Fracture Clinic 2.5 weeks after fracturing my ankle. It was at this appointment I was advised that my fracture needed surgical reconstruction. I was very concerned that I was going to have this operation 3 weeks after the injury. Mr Ajis was very reassuring that this time period was still OK and that I should expect to make a good recovery despite the initial delay in identifying the need for surgery. Mr Ajis is very straight forward, and that suits me. Every question I asked elicited a pragmatic response, for example, I said will this hurt more after surgery and he simply said 'Yes'. I felt pre-operatively explanations were really clear and straightforward.

Anyway, everything went well, my management at Goring Hall and the surgical procedure all went ahead and my recovery has been straight forward.

The only thing I would suggest, is perhaps a little bit more written info about the follow up period. For example, what does partial weight bearing actually mean, would I have a walking boot, when could I expect to be back fully active. I know these are immensely variable, but just something about the recovery period would have been helpful

Finally, I would just like to add that Mr Ajis has secretarial support that is outstanding and very responsive to any of my queries. And the guy who did my plaster and removed it was very gently and a great plasterer. Thank you to all.

I was referred to Mr Ajis following a broken ankle when it was discovered that I had ruptured my Achilles tendon. He explained thoroughly that there was a 2.5cm gap and that, as considerable time had elapsed, the operation might not work but that he would do his upmost. Fortunately for me he was able to mend the rupture and, following careful and sympathetic supervision of using a specialist boot and instruction, my ankle has recovered some six months later. Being in my mid seventies, this has pleasantly surprised me and I am back playing golf and sailing and looking forward to the next skiing season thanks to his professional care, encouragement and humorous support throughout.

In early June I suffered a severe high-impact injury and smashed my heel into many pieces and in some places, powder. Knowing Mr Ajis from his excellent work on my wife's feet, I contacted him and was transferred to his care at BMI Goring Hall.Mr Ajis was direct and tells things as they are although he put me at ease and gave me confidence that he would do his utmost to fix the problem. During the operation he discovered the injury was worse than expected however with a new German Titanium plate, some American "poly-filler" and some fantastic surgery, he has transformed the misshapen thing into a foot. His technique has also left minimal scarring.Post-operation, Mr Ajis continues to direct and improve my healing and I am making a remarkable recovery. Without his expertise I am not sure how this would have turned out.I recommend Mr Ajis to anyone and cannot thank him enough.

Mr Ajis has just straightened my big toe (which was almost at a right angle to my foot) and also the second toe. The big toe had ulcerated so often that podiatrists were afraid that the bone was infected. Mr Ajis was very careful, arranging an MRI first and then explaining clearly what he thought should be done. He saw me just before the surgery to ensure all was well, as did the anaesthetist. The theatre team were a delight, making jokes to help me relax. Surgery was swift and I now have a steel screw in the big toe and a temporary pin in the second one. I expected some pain after the operation but can honestly say I had none, just a little discomfort caused mainly by the rather heavy surgical shoe which I shall have to wear for about six weeks. Stitches were removed after two weeks, with Mr Ajis checking that all was well and I shall see him again in about four weeks when I will hopefully be able to stop wearing the surgical shoe.I am very grateful to Mr Ajis for his skill, care and kindness and would recommend him without hesitation.

I was diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma via the NHS and followed a few months treatment of weararing an Insole. The pain when walking got worth and worth and I had to stop all activities to keep my bones healthy and a level of activity - I could only walk few steps pain free.

I looked for private health and Dr. Ajis recommended to remove the Neuroma in day surgery and recovery would be quick. The operation went very well and I left same day. After recommended recovery I had 2 very short follow up visits with Dr. Ajis and was confirmed what I felt myself - it was healing so well. After less than 2 month from surgery I already picked up my 9 mile walks to/from work 3 x weekly and will soon revisit my dancing lessions. Dr. Ajis was very friendly and made me feel save and supported. Very gladly recommended and thank you for making my life better again.

At the end of last year I started to suffer with severe pain in my left foot which would cause me to have to break off from the activity I was doing. I am a 60 year old lady who has always been fit and active. I had a consultation with Mr Ajis in October 2017 following more and more discomfort with Hallux Ridigus on both feet. I was very apprehensive before the consultation but Mr Ajis immediately put me at ease with his calm and reassuring manner. He informed me he could carry out keyhole surgery (Cheilectomy) under general anaesthetic to remove the Hallux Rigidus on both feet and assured me that I would be mobile almost immediately.

In January 2018, I had my operation at 8am and was back in my room before 9am. The anaesthetist and all the staff at Goring Hall Hospital were excellent. After a nice cup of tea, the recovery from the general anaesthetic was very quick. The Physio arrived very soon after and had me on my feet and walking in some special shoes. I was amazed to be walking so quickly and not long after was released from hospital. I walked to the car in my new special shoes to be taken home to rest.

I rested with my feet up for 3 days then followed the exercise programme and other advice Mr Ajis gave me. I have recovered extremely well and cannot believe the pain I had been experiencing had vanished and the flexibility in both big toes are amazing. Four months later, I am able to put on normal shoes without any pain or discomfort, I can walk up to 5 miles at a good pace. I have just returned from a holiday and was delighted to show off my new beautiful feet.

I wish to personally thank Mr Ajis for his expertise, kindness and for the operation that has allowed me to walk pain free again.

I have arthritis in my big toe, which doesn't sound too serious but which has caused me great distress as I was unable to walk any distance without severe pain. Until this year I was a keen walker, regularly walking 12 miles plus. Then my toes started gripping the ground when I walked. This got worse and worse until I could no longer walk. There was no improvement after conservative treatment so I went to see Mr. Ajis. His examination was thorough, and he listened to what I had to say. I had an MRI the next day, which showed a bone spur behind my ankle pushing on one of my tendons. Mr. Ajis performed a hind foot excision stieda process (removing the bone spur) by keyhole surgery. From my understanding, very few people specialize in keyhole surgery in the hind foot, but Mr. Ajis reassured me he had a lot of experience with this procedure.It is 6 weeks after surgery and I have full range of motion and can already walk for up to an hour a day and continue to improve. I would recommend Mr. Ajis as I am very pleased with my progress. Also he was thorough, knowledgeable and explained everything clearly to me. Thank you!

Hi,

I had correction surgery on my second toe as it was crossing my big toe. My shoes were rubbing it, it looked terrible, and was causing me pain. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis which was causing the movement and I'm in my early forties. Adam Ajis, very kindly, said he could correct this, which he did, beautifully. I rested for about three weeks and then was on the move again. Six weeks after everything was back to normal, no pain and my foot looks completely normal again, you would never know I had surgery on it. I'm looking forward to getting my sandals on again and not worried that people are looking at my funny toe! Thank you Dr Ajis (you clever man).

After a bunionectomy many years ago, which was very successful for a long time, the toe began moving again two or three years ago. It was braced and then an attempt was made to fuse it, both unsuccessfully.

I was eventually referred to Mr Adam Ajis who immediately grasped the by-now complex problem and suggested possible solutions. Two months ago he performed a graft on the toe and so far this is progressing well.

From the first consultation on Mr Ajis listened attentively, and, speaking to me as if I were a reasonably intelligent person, told me what he could do. I appreciated the fact that he explained everything clearly, succinctly and only once, and quickly assessed what I had understood and what needed further explanation. What is more, he didn't tell me about the experience of other patients. All of the above is quite unusual in my experience.

He has a friendly relaxed and reassuring manner, without ever losing hisprofessionalism. He responded in an unhurried manner to my queries and encouraged me to resume my normal range of activities very slowly to increase the chance of success this time, explaining the reasons clearly. This was quite different from my earlier experiences with the foot.

I noticed that colleagues respected him and his work, which was very nice.

I have no hesitation in endorsing the positive comments others have made, and in recommending his services.

Mr Ajis has carried out two seperate surgical procedures to my foot to rectify an arthritic condition, which previously made it difficult and painful for me to walk.

I was admitted as a day case where he administered a nerve block procedure to my foot immediately before surgery, so I felt no pain during the operation and felt little to no discomfort post operatively during my rehabilitation period.

His attentive demeanour is second to none and I much appreciated the time and trouble he went to in order to keep me informed, answered any questions I had, and then happily provided reassurance at every stage.

Six months after my operation and I am walking completely without pain, which has made a big difference to my quality of life.

In my experience it quickly became obvious that not only is he well respected by his own team of excellent professionals but by the medical profession as a whole.

I cannot recommend him highly enough and I would never consider going elsewhere for foot surgery.

A fine man, an excellent surgeon.
