What a year – Thanks to You!The 2015-16 year was another outstanding one for Central Missouri Athletics, highlighted by another top 10 finish in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

Two teams, Jennies Soccer and Mules Baseball, captured MIAA Regular Season Championships. Both of those teams along with Jennies Volleyball captured MIAA Tournament titles.

Jennies Soccer, Mules Baseball and Mules Golf all captured Regional Championships and advanced to NCAA Championship play.

Jennies Soccer captured their sixth straight MIAA crown and advanced to their second straight Elite Eight, while Mules Baseball won MIAA title number 25 in the program’s storied history. The Mules earned their 17th regional championship and a spot in the NCAA-II World Series.

Five teams finished in the top 10 of NCAA Division II and 10 sports out of 17 qualified for NCAA postseason play. Mules Baseball was fourth, Jennies Bowling and Jennies Soccer were fifth, Mules Outdoor Track & Field finished in seventh with Jennies Outdoor Track & Field coming in eighth.

Individually, UCM student-athletes had 39 different All-American seasons and performances and brought home one national championship in track & field. Heavin Warner captured her third straight national championship in the hammer throw and cemented herself as the best hammer thrower in the history of NCAA-II Women’s Track & Field.

The Mules and Jennies capped the year with a 10th place finish in the Directors’ Cup standings. It marks the 16th time in the last 17 years that UCM has placed in the top 20 and is the seventh top 10 finish in the last eight years.

UCM student-athletes also excelled in the classroom, with 232 earning MIAA Academic Honor Roll distinction with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher. Twenty-eight UCM student-athletes were honored with the conference’s Scholar-Athlete award, boasting grade point averages of 3.5 of higher and having earned All-MIAA honors in their respective sports. In addition, 19 UCM student-athletes were named MIAA Academic Excellence Award winners with perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point averages. Four UCM student-athletes earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and two, Michael Gawlick (men’s cross country) and Heavin Warner (women’s track & field) were awarded prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships.

2016-2017 UCM Mule Train events The schedule has been set for the 2016-2017 University of Central Missouri Mule Train functions. These events will include monthly luncheons at Heroes Restaurant & Pub, tailgates prior to home Mules football games, and basketball postgame receptions at Spin Pizza in The Crossing or Traditions Restaurant in the Audrey J. Walton Clubhouse at Mules National Golf Club.

Mule Train Luncheons will take place at Heroes at 107 West Pine in Warrensburg. Held at noon, the luncheons will cost $9. UCM coaches will review the previous weekend of competition and a raffle will be held for UCM athletic gear at each monthly gathering.

This fall, prior to all Mules home football games, the UCM Mule Train will again host a pregame tailgate party for members. Each will begin two hours before kickoff, and food and beverage will be provided by the specified game sponsor. In 2016, the Mule Train tent will be located just west of Walton Stadium. Guests may accompany Mule Train members at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children.

During basketball season, Mule Train postgame receptions will be held following Saturday MIAA games at Spin Pizza in The Crossing South at Holden or at Traditions Restaurant. Food and beverage will be provided.
