FACULTY OUTREACH
One of the top priorities for AUI Library is to increase its presence on campusthrough an ambitious outreach campaign. Library staff are involved in meeting withindividual faculty and attending faculty meetings. We are working to fosterincreased awareness of collections and services, new purchase requests, creation orupdate of new Course/Library Guides, subject-specific instruction sessions taught orplanned, and issues with Library services identified through candid dialog. Inaddition, AUI Library also offers monthly general orientations and specific instructionsessions to everyone in the University community.
POSITIVE OUTCOMES
❑ Library and faculty collaboration further enhanced ❑ New relationships were established and maintained❑ Librarians gained knowledge of community needs❑ Information Literacy increased Library use❑ Library increased its presence on campus❑ Library consistently ranked #1 in Student Surveys
POSTIVE OUTCOMES
CHALLENGES
❑ Misunderstanding (faculty) - some faculty do not understand what the Library is, or how it should be used.
❑ Misunderstanding (community) - some members of the University community wrongly think that the Library is only for faculty and students, where it really serves the entire university.
❑ Technophobia - some faculty (especially senior faculty) are afraid of new initiatives, especially computer-related, and so they are reluctant to accept assistance which they feel might expose their own lack of knowledge.
❑ Teaching Style- Some Faculty members are susceptible to change (Rigid style of teaching, they don’t want to embrace Libguide)
❑ Not my cup of tea - Some Faculty members are NOT just interested. Period!
