5. Project Summary:
The present study on aquaculture development targeted to develop the socio-economic
standard of the tribal people who are among the poorest community in India. Freshwater
aquaculture though originally confined to the eastern region of undivided (Orissa), India
presently covered by West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa and Assam and further spread to Uttar
Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Punjab,
Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. Fish could be a popular
source of animal protein which can nourish children, pregnant mothers and other
population. Aquaculture no doubted playing important role in poverty alleviation. The
present proposal is directed to raise the livelihood of these poorest people by
implementing freshwater aquaculture technologies like seed raising of carps, grow out
culture of carps, and integrated fish farming.

seed rearing, upliftment of economically weaker section.
Ghatagaon and Patna block have predominantly inhabited by different tribal groups & below provrtyline. By insisting up Aquaculture Technology would create engagement round the year and incremental income leading to better living of standard. Ghatagaon Block:- According to the Census in 2001, the total population of the block stands at 92,296 which constitute 5.5% of the total population of the district? Out of the total, male and female population stands at 46,417 and 45,879 respectively. Total number of
household in the block is 18,775. The block has a sex ratio of 988 females per 1000 males. The SC and ST population has figured at 5,125 and 55,459 which show that the block is predominantly inhabited by different tribal groups where tribal population is 60.1% of the total population in the block. The schedule castes population constitutes only 5.6% of the total population. Literacy rate of the block is 57.0%, higher in males (70.3%) than in females (43.6%). The percentage of people living below poverty line is a parameter, which indicates the socio-economic status of the people. The latest
available statistics indicate that more than 80% of the households in the block are in below poverty line. This state of socio-economic status of people of the block compounds and accentuates the problems with regard to education, health, women & child development and other development sectors. Patana Block:- The total population of the block stands at 93,577 according to the Census in 2001, which constitute 5.57% of the total population of the district? Out of the total, male and female population stands at 46,398 and 47,179 respectively. Total number of household in the block is 19,629. The block has a sex ratio of 1017 females per 1000 males. The SC and ST population has figured at 7,407 and 51,438 respectively which show that the block is predominantly inhabited by different tribal groups where tribal population is 55.0% of the total population in the block. The schedule castes population constitutes only 7.9% of the total population. Literacy rate of the block is 56.7%, higher in males (70.6%) than in females (43.1%).
3. To create infrastructure for supply of fish seed for culture practices& efficient utilization
of seasonal water bodies for fish culture
4. To under take theoritical the practical training on the subject to up grade the Knowledge
and skill of Beneficiaries. .
5. To demonstrate the recent technology for assured feasibility & sustainability Of fishery
project.
6. Preparation of literature in local language for wider dissemination and replication.
7. Priority would be for the upliftment of weaker section of SC/ST.
d. Details of the project implementation site (as far as possible should be in the
vicinity of the targeted population).
The Project site is well approachable from the P I S ,Institute ,Dhenkikote. The
operational area consists of 30nos of villages from Ghatagaon and Patana Block 0f
Keonjhar District of Orissa. All village maps enclose, which are most backward areas in
the district.
e. Description of the implementing agencies (Please enclose the paper regarding the
Registration in case of NGOs). SARP is a non-government, apolitical and not for profit organization that is committed
to uplift the tribal and deprived categories of the society since its inception. Striving
to be recognized as one of the frontline NGO in Keonjhar district, SARP is actively
involved in numerous philanthropic that are helping people whom development sector
has not given so much attention so far. In its journey to improve the lives of tribal
poor and vulnerable categories, SARP has achieved a remarkable output in social
development and still active as there is a long way to go. In order to fulfill its long
cherished aspiration, the organization has been emphasizing seriously on convergence
of the community for capacity building and to make all interventions sustainable. The
experience of working in the tribal pockets has given the activists a good
understanding of their socio-economic needs for which the efforts are being cultivated
in a participatory process. However, the organization is endeavoring to make the tribal
community aware about the value of health, nutrition, education and protection of
environment etc.
SARP is a district level society; registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI 1860 in the office of the Registrar of Societies, Keonjhar, Orissa vide Registration No. KJR-
1730/301 in the year 1992-93. Moreover, the organization has registered itself with Income Tax Act of 1961 under section 12A & 80G and also got registration under FCRA of 1976 vide Registration No. 104970031. The copies of the registration certificate and memorandum of association , rules and By-laws are enclosed.
G -Expertise available with proposed investigating group/institution for
implementing the project. -
The PI and CO P.I have sufficient expertise in latest fish culture technologies. Besides
the expertise from CIFA(ICAR) KOUSALYA GANGA ,Bhubaneswar, State
fishery department will be drawn in implementing the project .

(I)The office facilities & training will be conducted at the training hall of
the NGO fitted with office the modern visual aids . the NGO having
computer telephone , facilities &digital camera for better documentation
also have bike &bicycle for moment
11. Work Plan:
(a) Methodology
The proposed Programme has been planned for overall development in the selected
blocks of keonjhar district in Odisha (state). The Programme will involve several
techniques such as on farm demonstration, on-campus and off-campus training for
adoption of different aquaculture technologies. The principle of learning by doing would
be the process of adoption of technologies. One hundred farmers/year will be selected
from the district as direct beneficiaries. It is proposed to select25
farmers/quarterly/programmes on seed production& grow out culture & Technologies in
CIFA /State fishery farms. Out of hunk 10 farmers have wider vally water bodies less
than half acre will be selected. Fish culture will be the said in such water bodies will be

generating employment as well as additional income for the participating families. This
would also go a long way in ensuring livelihood and nutritional security of the persons.
