Helpful hints?

• London’s public transport network is dividedinto nine fares zones. Zone 1 and 2 covercentral London and Zones 6-9 are on theoutskirts of the city.

• From January 2016 you can use your VisitorOyster card on train services from GatwickAirport to central London, including GatwickExpress services.

FaresDifferent fares apply depending on whichservices you use and when you travel.

• On Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Railand most National Rail services in London:

– Peak fares apply Monday to Friday (not onpublic holidays) from 06:30 to 09:30 and16:00 to 19:00.

– Off-peak fares apply at all other times,including weekends. Travel is cheaper atthese times.

• On bus and tram services in London:

– A single journey on a bus or tram costs £1.50with a Visitor Oyster card.

– You can’t use cash to pay for your bus fare.

• On train services from/to Gatwick Airport:

– A single journey on Gatwick Express costs£19.80.

– A single journey on Southern or Thameslinktrains services to/from London terminalscosts £14 at peak times and £8 at off-peaktimes.

A Visitor Oyster card is a smartcard which is pre-loaded with pay as you go credit that you can use totravel on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground,TfL Rail and most National Rail train services inLondon. The card costs £3 plus postage.

The system automatically calculates the cost ofeach journey you make based on how and whenyou travel and which zone(s) you travel in.

There is a daily fare cap when you use pay as you go

Visiting London for 2 days? Buy a Visitor Oyster card with £15 creditfor unlimited travel in central London (zones 1 and 2).

– once you have reached this limit, you won’t payany more for that day in the zones you travel in.

You can pay for Thames Clippers river busand Emirates Air Line cable car fares withyour Visitor Oyster card - these fares arenot included in the daily fare cap.

Visitor Oyster cards are not valid for travel onthe Heathrow Express and Stansted Expresstrain services or river tours.

How does a Visitor Oyster card work?

Child tickets

• Children under 11 travel free on buses andtrams. Children under 11 also travel freeon Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfLRail and some National Rail services whenaccompanied by a fare-paying adult (up to4 children per adult).

• If you’re travelling with children aged11-15, buy a Visitor Oyster card atvisitorshop.t .gov.uk and ask a memberof our staff to add a Young Visitor discountto the card at most Tube stations, VisitorCentres and Victoria National Rail stationticket of ce. This gives your child a half adultrate pay as you go discount for up to 14 days.

• You can also buy child Travelcards for childrenaged 11-15 at visitorshop.t .gov.uk

How do I use a Visitor Oyster card?Look for a yellow card reader when youtravel and always touch your card in andout – on Tube, DLR, London Overground,TfL Rail and National Rail train servicesyou need to touch your card on the yellowcard reader at the gates when you startyour journey and again when you end it.

If you don’t do this, the system will not knowwhich journey you made and you may becharged a maximum fare. You might also get apenalty fare or be prosecuted. If you need help,ask a member of staff.

On buses and trams you only need to touchthe card reader at the start of your journey.

Please keep your Visitor Oyster card separate fromany contactless payment cards you have to avoidcard clash problems. Visit t .gov.uk/contactless for more information.

What happens if I run out of crediton my card?

If you run out of pay as you go credit on yourVisitor Oyster card, it’s easy to add more at:

• Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail andsome National Rail stations

• Over 4,000 local shops in London, known asOyster Ticket Stops – visit ticketstoplocator.t .gov.uk

• Visitor Centres

What happens if I have credit left

on my card at the end of my visit?You can keep your card for future visits or lendit to family or friends. Check the credit on yourcard before you leave London as you cannot dothis from home. You can get a refund of up to£10 pay as you go credit at most Tube stationticket machines (after 48 hours). You can alsoget a refund at most Visitor Centres.

Where can I buy a VisitorOyster card?

You can’t buy a Visitor Oyster card once youare in London so it ’s best to buy your cardthrough your travel agent or online by visitingvisitorshop.t .gov.uk

Your card will be sent to your home addressso you can use it as soon as you arrive.

Separate single pay as you go fares apply for any journey that includes travel between Liverpool Streetand En eld Town, Cheshunt, Chingford, Emerson Park, Shen eld and all intermediate stations.
