Erasmus Plus  IV Liceum Ogólnoksztalcace Im. Boleslawar Prusa, Szczecin, Poland      Szczecin 19-24.04.2013 The excitement accompanied the students of our school, when they greeted their foreign guests at the airport in Berlin. Ice was not broken yet.

Polish youth was slowly getting used to the idea of responsibility that was needed. All have passed their exam in hospitality, creativity and kindness.

The first day (Friday 19 April 2013) Without obstacles we arrived at Tegel airport to pick up our friends from Belgium, and then from England and Spain. Together we went to

Friedrichstrasse to the museum of the Berlin Wall, where the guide told us about how people crossed the wall in search of freedom, which was often an insurmountable obstacle. After that we all moved along a 200- meter-long the surviving fragment of the wall. After such a busy day, we came to Szczecin. Parents met the Polish students and their guests outside the hotel Radisson Blu to take them home.

The second day (Saturday 20 April 2013) Day was devoted to visiting Szczecin, combined with the attraction of the amusement park. The teachers visited the city. The third day (Sunday 21 April 2013) The programme was organized by a family. The teachers spent Sunday at Ponderosa Ranch where they enjoyed a relaxing game of croquet, horse riding training show and a cart ride as

well as visiting a mini zoo. The fourth day (Monday 22 April 2013) Tough day. Much of the project work, presentations, for up to 3 tasks: the fall of the Berlin Wall, seen from different perspectives, Natural

Resources and My European Union. Guests have prepared international lunch, made with products brought from abroad. Most popular and probably the tasties were Spanish chorizo and lomo, Belgian chocolate and English biscuits and KitKat.

Students and teachers took part in the polonaise dancing that everyone enjoyed . When teachers were working on more arrangements for the project, the students took part in socializing games.

After a two-hour break, we all met up at the theater Pleciuga to see the "Presentations for Comenius". The Fifth Day (Tuesday 23 April 2013) Trip to Międzyzdroje was to supplement knowledge of natural history. Our group visited the natural history museum, which features a stuffed

animal specimens, found in Wolin National Park. Then we went to “Żubrowisko”, where guests from the south and west of Europe saw bisons -largest European mammals. Walking on a windy pier ended our stay in Międzyzdroje. On the way back, the guests were treated to a traditional Polish żurek in bread

The sixth day (Wednesday 24 April 2013)   Saying goodbye , with a tear in the eye, was endless. Guests, full of new experiences, set off by coach to the airport in Berlin.   By Ela Łuczak

Institut "Notre-Dame", Thuin, BelgiumEven after so many years, always the same thrill when preparing a meeting ‘at home’… Where are my partners going to

sleep, what would they like to visit (something interesting they don’t know yet…)?This time was very special: a preparatory meeting coupled with a ‘normal project meeting’… and two places to host the teachers as our area is so poor in accommodation for larger groups… A characteristic of our region: cocoon and family… with the good and bad points…Next step was the planning of the weekend, again I chose for our ‘typically local’… If some of my European colleagues come to Belgium by themselves or on an organized trip, sure they will visit Brussels and Brugge, so I left these aside and discovered with them the harvesting of the grapes of our ’Cuvée des Zouaves’… The sun was with us and I think they all enjoyed the tramway ride to Lobbes… Again an opportunity to me to discover hidden ‘friends’… The tramway drivers were so nice to devote their afternoon for us…Sunday in Dinant was amazing, the citadel, the caves… So unexpected to share all this with local enthusiastic and passionate ‘English speaking guides’.But… When did we work… Even if these 2 days were part of a discovery work…?The visit of the school and school-system on Monday morning was another step forward in getting to appreciate each others; the European meal-prepared by the students and new colleagues from the school- an opportunity to meet lots of teachers and ‘our jounalist ‘for the local paper…In the afternoon we finalized the activities for the current project, which was the way to work before planning the partnership 2013-2015.Some shopping in Charleroi later that day and a typical Belgian meal at Léon’s… It was supposed to be mussels and chips for everyone, but some were more daring…The preparation of the new project on Tuesday was really the occasion to realize how well we could work as a new team and it was a fruitful day… Everyone finding his own place and giving his own stamp…We will share rich experiences in 2013-2015…I won’t be too long about the ‘last meal’ at the pizzeria… So sad and happy at the same time… Two words to summarize the meeting: true and moving… Now let’s all keep our fingers crossed till the beginning of July. LOL till then…and further…Véronique PayenIND THUIN, BELGIUM

Belgium greeted us with the smell of early autumn. In the weak sunshine we were going on a shuttle along the highway

straight to Thuin. Apparently Belgium is the "most lit" country seen from the space, due to street lights that illuminate both lanes of highways.Belgium is a land of stone houses, with lines so straight as if drawn with a pencil. Omnipresent order, the absence of billboards and advertising signs in excessive amounts makes it easy to see home gardens, windows decorated with curtains and you can feel unique harmony of land use.Belgium is home to excellent French fries and chocolate. The national dish is mussels (mussels) prepared in various ways, served in enamel pots. And for dessert, often eaten waffles are native.Institut Notre Dame is one of two schools in Thuin, Walloon town where everyone speaks French. It is located in a historic building in the center of the village church itself. It is managed by a head teacher- Mr.Baudry.The so-called detention functions here well, which is completely unusual for our schools. The school has a climbing wall in the gym. During our stay this room was filled with bikes and helmets of students, because the first few weeks of science in physical education classes rely on rides around the area along with the PE teacher-in. We had the opportunity (as the only delegation) to take part in the fun-day when oldest students “welcomed” the new ones, and the nationwide campaign "Sing for the Climate".Students who went to live with Belgians families were lucky as the host families organized attractive tours and provided the best knowledge of the culture of this country. On the way back we visited Brussels, and flew by Easyjet plane to our homes ....Wonderful memories will last in our memory for a long time. Well, the smell of waffles and chocolate ..., too.Ela Luczak

Archbishop Ilsley Catholic Technology College & 6th Form Centre, Birmingham, UK

The second visit of our project, Europe United, took place from the 23rd to the 28th of March in Birmingham. Once again, the pupils spent the weekend with their host families and learned what life is like for a teenager in the UK.

The teachers went out for a meal and enjoyed a walk around the city centre on the Friday evening. On the Saturday morning they were

surprised to find themselves taking part in a circus skills workshop where they learnt to juggle, spin plates and balance on a large globe. They soon discovered that some were more likely to have a career in the circus than others! After a tasty lunch in Kings Heath, there was a chance for a rest before an exciting evening of dinner and a musical. The teachers were lucky enough to see a performance of ‘Oliver!’ at the Hippodrome. It was an excellent production and everyone really enjoyed it. A tasty lunch seemed the best way to start Sunday and a trip to the National Trust Back to Back Houses ensured the the group learnt a lot about life in Birmingham in the past.

Monday morning saw the Comenius group arrive to spend some time at Archbishop Ilsley School. Some students gave a tour of the school and the morning was spent sharing the posters from the ‘Secret Talents’ project. After a fabulous lunch, the group were treated to a performance by the ABI Gospel Choir which was just wonderful. A little more work and it was time to go out and have some fun! A trip to the Bowling Alley provided lots of laughs before dinner in a local hotel.

Tuesday was a day of planning for the future amongst the teachers. A welcome break came in the form of a gymnastics and dance display organised by the PE Department. The pupils came to watch this as well and everyone was very impressed by the talent of the students involved.  In the evening, after some time spent in the city centre, the group went to eat in a Korean restaurant. This was an unusual experience for everyone with the bossy waitress dictating what food was ordered and the necessity of cooking the meat on the barbeque in the centre of the table.

After the meal, the group said their goodbyes and started to look forward to the next Comenius visit!  Lucy Burns, Archbishop Ilsley, Birmingham, England   The programme of our stay was varied and facilitated to our needs.  The most memorable event was Oliver -the musical which made me feel

elated. The acting, costumes and music created unique atmosphere and reflected the image of the 19 th century  and genuine picture of England in those times.  Bowling and common meals at different restaurants (especially at the one near the bowling alley) let us socialize and practice English, which was crucial for me. I really appreciated some free time we had for ourselves when we could revitalize.

Elżbieta Łuczak     The school in Birmingham made an indelible impression on me! First thing, that attracted my attention, were all the students’ works, mostly

posters, but there were also other bits and pieces of their work. The school seemed very lively with the projects all over the walls. The next thing I liked about the school were the computer labs in each department. I think, it is a brilliant idea to use technology in every subject, especially nowadays. Last but not least, were the Polish students who we met there! I was really proud of them when the head-teacher said they were the best students at school, the most diligent and hardworking. Visiting the Archbishop Ilsley Catholic Technology College was a memorable experience for me.

    "Ramón y Cajal", Murcia,Spain

The 1st meeting of our new Project, Europe United, took place fom 14th-19th October 2011 and we prepared different activities for the visit.

At the weekend, the visiting students could enjoy living immersed in our culture and traditions with their Spanish host families. Anyway, in case they might feel homesick, most of them went partying together.

All the teachers had a guided visit of the Museo de La Muralla in Murcia city on Friday evening. On Saturday we walked around the most typical places in town and then went to Torreagüera so that our foreign colleagues could see a typical cottage of the “huerta” area called “barraca” and the farming implements used in the past. On Sunday we went to Cartagena to show them the second city in the Region of Murcia. There we took the panoramic lift to enjoy the breathtaking views and we went to the Castle of Concepción, the Civil War Shelter and the Roman Theatre. Afterwards, we took them to the sea so that they could see, smell, and some of them even touch the Mediterranean Sea and the saltworks.

On Monday we welcomed the foreign teachers and students at school, and some Spanish students showed them around. After that,María Ponce, Marisa López and Manuel Navarro presented our region and our educational school system to the whole Comenius group. We followed with the exchange of the posters made by the different schools about the 1st activity of the project “My European Union” and the exhibition of some of them in the hall. While we were evaluating the activity, the foreign students had the opportunity to play a volleyball match with our students, and also to attend some lessons with their Spanish hosts.

During the last period we prepared an “International Lunch” to which the 18 students involved in the meeting contributed with typical dishes from each country in the project. In the evening we enjoyed sightseeing again.

On Tuesday morning, both teachers and students participated in a music lesson and in a salsa lesson. Afterwards, the teachers met to work again on different issues of the project: the next activities, the mobilities, the blog and the website, and we also chose the logo that will represent the project in the next two years. In the meantime, the students took part in several lessons and sport activities. For the last period we prepared a cultural exchange with the students of 3rd year of secondary education and they were talking to one another in the school courtyard. It was an extraordinary experience for all of them.

In the evening, after visiting the Real Casino of Murcia, we took the European teachers to the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático (Drama Arts School), where we could enjoy lessons of flamenco and castanets, and an improvised  folk dance: “jota murciana”. Since the following day was the departure day for all the schools, we prepared a farewell party with the collaboration of many of the Spanish teachers envolved in the Project who made typical Murcian dishes for that special occasion.   We are really lucky to have a great musician within the Comenius cell at school, and he invited some of the many components of his group “Los Parramboleros” to play some of their songs for us. We had a terrific time and really nice memories.
