As one initiative of the English Opens Doors Program, the Volunteer Program brings native and near native English-speaking volunteers to work in Chilean public schools to compensate for the

lack of exposure to native English speakers faced by most Chilean public

school students and teachers.

•In 2004, 15 volunteers were placed in the Region of Antofagasta for 4 months.

•In 2006, Michelle Bachelet was elected President and passed 2 mandates directly related to improving English teaching in

Chile. Her mandates greatly contributed to the growth of the English Opens Doors

Volunteer Program.

•In 2008, the Program placed 555 volunteers throughout Chile.

•Study abroad students in Chile

•Pair up with Chilean English teachers

•Volunteer 4-16 hours per week in schools

•Post secondary degree (Full-Time Volunteer).•Pursing a post secondary degree (Part-Time volunteers).•Between the ages of 21-50.•Native or near native English speaker. •Experience teaching or working with children and a genuine interest in assisting English teaching.

•Participation bonus of CLP$85,000 for every month of completed service.•All-expense-paid orientation in Santiago •Assistance obtaining a Temporary Residence Visa and Chilean I.D. card.•Round-trip transportation to placement site.•E-blended Spanish Course.•BULATS test•Classroom matierals•Teaching support.
