As one initiative of the English Opens Doors Program, the Volunteer Program brings native and near native English-speaking volunteers to work in Chilean public schools to compensate for the
lack of exposure to native English speakers faced by most Chilean public
school students and teachers.
•In 2004, 15 volunteers were placed in the Region of Antofagasta for 4 months.
•In 2006, Michelle Bachelet was elected President and passed 2 mandates directly related to improving English teaching in
Chile. Her mandates greatly contributed to the growth of the English Opens Doors
Volunteer Program.
•In 2008, the Program placed 555 volunteers throughout Chile.
•Study abroad students in Chile

•Volunteer 4-16 hours per week in schools
•Pair up with Chilean English teacher
•25 hours a week teaching
•Live with a host family
•Recieve a “participation bonus”
