• Hook – grab reader’s attention

• Shocking statistics?

• Thesis statement• State the problem

• Why this problem should be fixed

• Background information

• Credibility (if you have any)

• Narrow the focus

• Discuss what you’re NOT going to cover

• Preview of what youre going to talk about

• Facts about topic (general)

• Subtopics – the points you’re going to make

• State the main point of the paragraph

• Providing more information

• Tie paragraph back to thesis

• Evidence and commentary

• Evidence - Direct quotes, statistics, sources

• Commentary - Expanding upon the evidence

• Personal experience

• Expand/use it to tie into the evidence you’ve given

• Transition sentence/Concluding sentence
