All students who attend and actively participate will receive 40 extra credit points and have the chance to win prizes at the end of the day. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for students. We still need parent volunteers if you are interested in helping. • There will be an after school book discussion/study session on Thursday, November 11 for Honors Sophomores. All students who attend and actively participate will receive 10 extra credit points on their independent reading test the following day. • Reminder! Projects are due December 1 st . We are giving students the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving to work at ECS during the school day. Attendance is important on those days. Participation points will be given in each class. Additional project work time should be scheduled outside of school. We are available on Monday afternoons from 3:30 – 6:30 for students to work at ECS. Please know that this project grade will be a large part of the 2 nd term grade. Successful completion and quality work is important. • Presentation week is December 6 – 11. This will be after school or on Saturday. • Friday, November 5 marks completion of three weeks of the new grading period. • Sophomores are preparing to read Elie Wiesel’s Night. This is a powerful memoir that is about a Holocaust survivor’s experiences during World War II.
• Juniors are currently studying American Revolutionary Literature. Specifically, we have discussed the Boston Massacre and the history of the time period. This week, students will be discussing persuasion and rhetorical devices and reading “The Declaration of Independence” and Patrick Henry’s “Speech to the Virginia Convention.”
Quizzes/Tests to be given next week:
• Monday, November 8 OR Tuesday, November 9– English III Revolutionary Literature Quiz
• Tuesday, November 9 – AP Reading Quiz
• Friday, November 12 – Honors English II Independent Novel Test
Independent Reading:
• Honors English II students will have their second independent reading test on Monday, November 8. They have had over five weeks to complete their choice novel.
• AP Language and Composition students are currently reading Into the Wild. They have also been given a reading calendar to help them manage their shorter reading assignments and Writer’s Notebook entries. They may work ahead of the schedule to help them manage their time and workload.
- An online moodle classroom has been set up at http://ecs.mdl.gnomio.com - Students will have to log in during every class for bell ringers - All PowerPoints are available and most quizzes will be taken through the online classroom
